I'm 70 yrs old and followed this guy his whole career. What a great musician, singer and story teller. Funny as hell and still has the chops. Thank you Colin for all those years.
It’s cool how you can hear a song a thousand times and then you hear it played a different way and it’s like you finally get how beautiful it is. This is a gorgeous ballad.
You didn’t forget. The original was NOT this beautiful. It was one of the first MTV music videos but the original recording with the band is not as good as this solo guitar version.
I was in 7th grade when I heard this song. 14 years old. I will be 50 soon. Man time flies. You kids out there really need to stop and meditate on my words, TIME FLIES, IT REALLY DOES.
Chaddons Chaddons I agree, it seems just like yesterday since I was in my Grandmothers kitchen/ living room/ bedroom watching a severed pigs head bouncing up and down in a large saucepan of boiling water balanced on the hot coals of a open fire, the staring eyes of pity full porcine followed me around that 16ft by 16ft living space, then my Grandfather seeing I was disturbed by the dance of death being portrayed before my prepubescent eyes handed me the severed leg of a chicken he had just despatched plucked and dismembered, he showed me how to pull the still warm tendon that protruded from that now useless limb and make the four digits expand and contract, I miss those happy days, TIME FLIES IT REALY DOES.
Your right, i totally agree.... nothing throws u back to a time and place in your life with any more clarity and certainty than when you hear a song from that particular moment.... instantly your thrown back in time! Just like if i crush the leaf of a tomato plant and smell it BAM instantly im thrown back 35 years to when i was 4 years old living on the family farm... wierd i know and funny thing is i dont even remember a vegie garden there but all i know is whenever i smell the leaves on a tomato plant i know it makes me feel happy INSTANTLY, and if for only a second im that 4 year old boy again 🙂
Choir, for me, is the second best. This song is so intimate. I’ve searched hi and lo for a better ver. Including the original. There’s so much emotion, it’s hard to get perfect I think.
Ghosts appear and fade away... Loved ones who are gone, but reappear in our memory - only to fade away again. This is what we can all attest to, as we grow old. Thank you, Colin Hay, for reminding us.
Every so often, we encounter something or experience something that reminds us that life is beautiful and we're so lucky to be alive. There is such beauty in this world. What a special moment that was. Thank you Norm for sharing this with us.
Youngsters, please take note. When you can play, sing, and sound just as good or better then your recordings, with just an acoustic guitar, and singing with no drums, bass, keys, etc, then you know you are a great musician.
Some have so much music inside, that they can't keep it under lock, they sing and play and leave traces... others have no music inside but lots of attitude and a great desire for a minute of fame and some cash... they leave no traces
I always like to imagine if the musicians who you're using to have a go a youngsters would say the same thing. You think Colin Hay would be such a twat?
Couldn’t stand Men At Work. I saw this video 30+ years later and suddenly saw Colin Hay in a completely different light. I went to see him in a little venue in NJ last winter. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. He is a true entertainer.
Colin Hay is a legend. A great band career followed by a prolific acoustic career. Simply one of the best ever. Great songwriter, tremendous player and singer. Everyone should take notes on this man and his career. I wish I could thank him for all the wonderful music in the memories.
My sister used to listen to men at work, i was a very young boy and couldn't understand the lyrics. Throughout the decades I had lost memories of those days with my sister till I heard this song, and all of a sudden it opened a path and all sorts of memories rushed in. As an adult I know understand the song and love it. Such a huge talent. Just in awe. Thank you so much for having recorded this and shared it with us. So Greatful.
More people need to appreciate this guy NOW! Ringo doesn't just pick musicians out of a hat. He is legend...go see this guy while he is still touring! I missed a few legends...won't miss Colin..
Awesome. Just found this and watched it 50 times in two days. He also posted a how to video..chords are fairly simple but oh so sweet...lyrics way better than i remembered...now that im older i guess it really means something to me. His voice is amazing too...
Colin Hay... what a good, decent man he seems to be. No matter what I see/hear him on; radio, TV, TH-cam videos, et al., he's always pleasant, humble, and happy to perform.
This man and his band's music piqued my interest in music back in the early 80's and led me to a lifelong guitar hobby which has made me income and joy. God Bless Colin Hay!
Outstanding . I , for proberly 30 years have loved M.A.W , colins voice and the mucianship of the band was fantastic . I have seen many clips of them but this one of colin in Norms shop actually made me cry ...ya i know crazy ! I think its because in a few moments i can see the life journey of this great singer songwriter and it really made me think how precious time is and we have to do as much within that time and spread the love , which in these times needs spreading thickly . God bless Norms shop even though i have played drums for over 40 years hehe love the shop . And colin you are a gentleman and a scholar, keep on keeping on .
I am a bassist, and a teen in the 1980’s. I remember this song well, it owned the radio. But honestly, I prefer this acoustic version. Just Colin and his guitar.
Even though I have seen this video a few times now, I had to watch it again today! First time seeing Men at Work in Monterey back in 1981 or there about, as a young 26 year old guitar player tending bar at the local Hell's Angle's club, pretty much changed my attitude of guitar playing and utilizing arpeggio playing in rock tunes... Duh... nobody was doing it except for guys like Greg Lake, Steve Howe and a handful of others. Great players for sure, But.... Colin took it to a level of a poet with a guitar. So... 30 years later, give or take. I see Colin again, on his own. Solo guitar in a bar.... WTF !! And saw this happen... I had pretty much put my guitar away for my profession as a contractor building custom homes... Now, at 66 and retired, I sit around and play all of Colin's songs acoustically, fingerstyle, jamming with a few friends and built a nice home recording studio. So put your headphones on, get on Colin's home TH-cam site and listen to his latest version of Men At Work, and play.... Got it? Do it, do it right now.... This man will go down in history as one of the top writers, guitar players and generally one of the best troubadours of all time. (Troubadour-Wandering Poet and musician). My wife and I go see Colin as often as we can. Love his stories, though I think I know all of them now... Like Ringo said... I know all my stories, I want to hear yours. Thanks, Colin, and Norm!!! Great. Next time, make sure the phones ringer is off. LOL
One of the greatest “ballads” ever written. Colin is one of the most underrated singer/songwriter/guitarist ever. If you want to learn how to play this song, He’ll show you on TH-cam. Just search Colin Hay’s Overkill lesson.
Norm must have the coolest job in history. Rare epic guitars and legends like Colin Hay just popping by and busting out pure golden melodys of deliciousness. FML 😔
One of our most underrated musicians and one of the best that we’ve produced on these beautiful shores of Scotland. Colin Hay Saltcoats finest musician.
Great great, you made my day Norman, you got proably one of the magic and finest place on earth. Colin Hay... you will rock forever . Cheers from Venezuela.!
Way to go Norm,,,so many singers retire early , or just disappear from the scene but Colin Hay is already a legend, encouraging all ages for his work and personality and will surely go on for ever as part of Men at Work and solo!! To all readers, support artists...buy there original material. Thanx for your inspiration Colin...........Ivan Celleri Contreras
Was not a Men At Work fan, and still am not. But I had an evening to kill a few years ago when Colin Hay rolled into my little New Hampshire town. I strolled downtown & scoffed up one very cheap ticket outside the theater, minimizing my losses to just a waste of time in event this guy sucked. Two hours later I was a Colin Hay convert. He was not only excellent on guitar, but a great storyteller & most engaging with the audience. Did a killer solo acoustic cover of "Like A Rolling Stone", too. He's coming around again this spring, but Boston is the closest date. I'll probably be there.
What a very wonderful man. Happy, doesn't want your money and is happy to share his pitch-perfect music. Colin Hay. Great acoustic player. I very rarely play my electrics anymore. There is something lovely about a few nice chords on a good-sounding acoustic. Play on.
Worked with Colin and his band in '87 as a stage roadie for two gigs around Melbourne one weekend. Those were my first serious gigs when I was just starting in the music biz. I have fond memories of Colin as a kind and humble guy, easy to talk to, nothing to prove.
His folks ran a music store in Scotland prior to his move to Australia when he was only 14. He is used to hanging around a shop full of instruments such as this one. Saw him live in the 80's with Men at work. He just gets better as he matures.
Most underated muso of our times..Great storyteller and surprisingly introspectual. One of my all time favorites along with Dylan and of course John Lennon..please listen to his solo projects if you get the chance..the duck's nuts..
This is possibly the best performance ever played at Norm’s. I’m awestruck.
Totally agree!
I Agree also!!! Such a powerfull performance but yet he seemed to make it look effortless. Some people truly are gifted.
He’s good
Really good...
I have seen him once in
Edmonton - Back in the early 80s
Men at work...👍🏻👌🏾👍🏻
I agree👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
From the heart.
I'm 70 yrs old and followed this guy his whole career. What a great musician, singer and story teller. Funny as hell and still has the chops. Thank you Colin for all those years.
Agreed.
Agreed too,Colin's Legend!!!!!!
It’s cool how you can hear a song a thousand times and then you hear it played a different way and it’s like you finally get how beautiful it is. This is a gorgeous ballad.
Exactly..always liked the song but this version gives it a whole new flavor
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. That voice. There's something really special about the lyrics, melody.
man, I forgot what a beautiful song that was. he still sounds great.
You didn’t forget. The original was NOT this beautiful. It was one of the first MTV music videos but the original recording with the band is not as good as this solo guitar version.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I have never really noticed what an amazing song this is. Absolutely incredible.
it is a real american classic. wink wink
Honesty’s the best policy mate
Honestly I am in the same boat. I am only rediscovering this classic. Amazing song.
I think this is how the song was meant to be played
Check out JD Southers acoustic versions of the songs he wrote for the Eagles. They are beautiful.
Brings a grown man to tears.
Matt Man many times!

I know, right?!? cRaZy...
Especially when you see yourself in the song.....

They won't listen just like we didn't but we know better now don't we, hahaha. Cheers my friend. Here's to hard-earned wisdom.
That clock just keeps ticking ...
Chaddons Chaddons man, that is a nice comment. I really appreciate your words.
So true.
This is why music is sometimes like a time machine.....you hear a song and your mind travels back to that time in your life......great job, sir.
That's why you see so many commercials today featuring the music from the 70s and 80s
Your right, i totally agree.... nothing throws u back to a time and place in your life with any more clarity and certainty than when you hear a song from that particular moment.... instantly your thrown back in time! So true. If you want a demonstration of that magical power, watch "Alive Inside" streaming on Amazon Prime.
He still has it and never lost his amazing voice. What a talent!
easily the best version of this song
The one he did on Scrubs was amazing as well.

Check out Choir Choir version with Colin. My favorite.
Choir, for me, is the second best. This song is so intimate. I’ve searched hi and lo for a better ver. Including the original. There’s so much emotion, it’s hard to get perfect I think.
A bitter-sweet song.
Ghosts appear and fade away... Loved ones who are gone, but reappear in our memory - only to fade away again.
This is what we can all attest to, as we grow old.
Thank you, Colin Hay, for reminding us.
Wonderful song!
I've been on a Colin Hay binge lately. Such a great songwriter and artist.
His "I Just Don't Think I'll Get Over You" is my favorite ch songs. So intimate and sad - instant tears each time I listen to it.
I used to love that song you mentioned. I even put an instrumental of it on my channel. I can no longer listen to it since I lost my wife last year.
Every so often, we encounter something or experience something that reminds us that life is beautiful and we're so lucky to be alive. There is such beauty in this world. What a special moment that was. Thank you Norm for sharing this with us.
You are right. Absolutely.
Absolutely
The J35 sounds perfect under his amazing composition and next to his beautiful voice. Top notch.
That was incredible.
Ridiculous how good this is. Just stop by a shop and drop immense talent like its nothing. So cool!!!!
Tears ! Thank you Colin.

I never realized what a great singer Colin is/was. He sounds even better in his higher range!
I've probly watched this clip 100 times. Colin's voice is lovely and this song's like a lullaby to me. Fantastic talent. I'll keep watching....
It makes me cry every time. It's so naturally beautiful
