@TheOvieShow I'm not OP but I myself have a few reasons not supporting this at all. teams have to play more games, players are likely to get more fatigued and increase the chance of injury plus, past records will be more easy to break as more games being played=more goals individual players can score in the tournament, assists, whatever records (I think it's the main reason uefa gave the award to ronaldo today) plus, more games being played at the early stages means that there are increased chances of strong teams to face off each other right at the start of the competition. Fans love to watch strong teams go head to head, and with that happening more often now, it just increases more views for the competition thus earning UEFA more money, instead of caring for teams and players, purely from the greed for money I do think the new format allowed teams not from the major leagues to compete with a better chance, and it did increase the overall competitiveness by a little but the impact it has on teams playing more games is not easily irreversible. In the 23/24 season players and coaches were already complaining about too many games, and now the new ucl format, it's highly likely things are going to turn worse for football, making it jist a money farm for businessmen and higher ups. Also the 2026 world cup has a new format, so i imagine 2026 will be absolutely terrible for football.

When you constantly change the formats of competitions, it ruins the legacies of the players of the past… We’ll scream “X broke Ronaldo’s UCL record” or “Messi’s most goals in a calendar year record” but when you constantly add games, it becomes more possible, and no one will care. There’s no groups buddy. All 36 teams are placed in one league table. But each team has their own run of 8 opponents that they will face. 4 of those games they get to play at home and 4 away. The pot system is used to make these 8 game runs more balanced. Each team will play against two pot 1 teams, two pot 2 teams, two pot 3 teams and two pot 4 teams.
It’s at most two extra games per team as a worst case scenario. And this could help mix/randomize teams that compete in the round of 16. So, for all those who are crying about it. Maybe try accepting some change in your life.
