I appreciate Dave as a historian but holy shit the guy couldn't string together two coherent sentences if his life depended on it. His writing ability never went beyond that of a first year college student and verbally homeboy goes through more uh, um, ah, um , ya know, bumps than anyone I've EVER heard in my life. Only person I know who can take 10 minutes to answer a 20 second question.
I remember back when I listened to Dave in a few places. "Um..." "You know," "Yeah, I don't know." People once speculated it's him trying to tease to get newsletter subscribers, but he just seems so clueless.
Dave lowkey is part of the reason the business is ruined. The old guard knew better than to listen to him long term. But all the younger now middle aged "performers" all revere him just because he has been around. He made the moves in the ring more important than the psychology of the match. Then him and Bryan sit around whining that it isn't like the old school. Now no one cares if an angle is hot or not. Just if the heel hit a 450 splash. Silly crap. When we were kids, we didn't care of macho man and whoever had a 5 star match. We cared that macho man won or lost. End of story.
green field WWE actually has a lot of psychology. You see it on every show every week now. You’ve got guys and girls selling injuries and working body parts to win matches. It used to not be that way and you certainly don’t see it on Tony’s show. Dave is responsible for “smartening up” casual fans and turning them into smart marks. Once you are a smart mark, nothing will ever satisfy you again. You complain constantly that everything isn’t exactly the way you think it should be.

No consistency in the storyline, the wrestlers team up with people who were their sworn enemies a few months ago. The wrestlers look tired asf in the ring. Meltzer is a hypocrite and has let his ego go to his head (built up by years of people -- like Jim Cornette -- validating his opinions). I hate to see two friends at odds like this but it was inevitable. Corny hated a lot of the cartoonish, over-the-top pro-wrestling not just in WWE but also in TNA, Lucha Underground, ECW, and anywhere he finds it. This has led to Cornette sperging out on Vince Russo and Paul Heyman in addition to Vince McMahon. But Meltzer claims to like the sports-based presentation and he's been boosting this for years (ROH, TNA) but when it comes to AEW, Meltzer is blinded by his friendships with Omega and the Bucks.
I been saying for the longest that Okada was carrying Olivier through all those matches. he's such a mark for himself and the marks have their heads so far up his ass it's sad.

I honestly really enjoyed Kenny's matches in NJPW with Okada, Naito, Ibushi, Ishii, Kushida etc. And now he isn't there/working with these guys, I have enjoyed ONE Omega match outside of NJPW. It was Page/Omega Vs The Bucks. I enjoyed the match. Was it mind blowing? No. I thought it was good. The guys I named from NJPW though? Still killing it. Maybe not so much Kushida but his talent is not being utilised right now.

I dont know what people see in Omega. I watched 2 of those Omega/Okada matches and in all honesty they put me to sleep. There some things I like about AEW but there are also some things I dont care for either. Last few weeks I have just watched the highlights. Would much rather watch MLW or NWA Power.

They jumped on the hottest thing in wrestling in the bullet Club after actual stars made it relevant with AJ and Bálor and than milked it to make them bigger stars than they ever were anywhere else before screwing both New Japan and ROH. It’s no wonder the actual stars on AEW are the people who worked for WWE for extended tenures. Hell they’ve basically lucked into MJF and Adam Page IMO as talent’s.

To me, pretty much the entire current NWA roster has the best promos. They're not rehearsed, the wrestlers doing the promos are dripping with personality and they do come off authentic (well except Stevens, he's just a walking dickbag of a joke, he needs to dial it back, actually) but damn Aldis' promos are some of the best.
I honestly believe guys like AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, Johnny Gargano, Andrade, Tommaso Ciampa, and many more are way better than Kenny Omega. I think the names I mentioned are better both in the ring and on the mic (Andrade is the exception when it comes to mic skills, but he has a great talker in Zelina Vega to talk for him).
What’s really amusing is that AEW is partly Dave’s fault, if he would have never said an Indy show could sell out arena then we would have never had All in etc
Meltzer actually said that an indy show COULDN'T sell out a 15,000-seat arena and Cody took it as a bet. The funny thing is All In was built off the back of ROH. if The Elite stayed with ROH this could have helped ROH tremendously to gain more resources and viewers and a better TV deal. Perhaps ROH wouldn't be in the position they were in winter last year if the Elite stayed. If they wanted the book, I guess that's motive enough. Now one of their buddies has the book anyway
FWIW he was praising these guys long before AEW was a thing. I think the things he says about them truly do represent his genuine opinion. I totally get that not everyone likes that style of wrestling, but it seems to me many of the fans that don't have trouble accepting the idea that some others do, whereas the wrestlers who actually do that kind of stuff tend to openly admit it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I agree with Cornette. Dave is finally validated by a large contingent of wrestlers.. but it's from a bunch of dweebs (little harsh.. but sorry). It does make sense with his continues love for AEW as he apparently has a move named after him; which naturally you're going to think is cool (it should be for a fan) and have some bias.. but it's embarrassing. The majority of the goofs in the ring now are the "smart" fans who think they know everything since they followed people like Dave and people of his ilk.. but the problem is Dave has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to pro-wrestling. The whole point is to MAKE MONEY, not have great matches. Also, the biggest marks are the fans who think they know exactly what is going on.. I wish the guys now would use that to their advantage and manipulate them (I'm not saying this is easy). I've only seen a couple of Omega matches and some of the other guys in AEW.. and I just don't get it. They are hard workers, but instead of focusing so much time on moves, I wish they'd focus on their gimmick. It is spot matches by numbers and not simulated combat where you think people are beating the shit out of each other. And you can you can tell some of those guys really have never been in a real fight in their entire life.
I think guys like the Bucks need wrestling to be as close to non-realistic as possible because they wouldn't make it in realistic wresting. They'd constantly get squashed for being under 200 pounds.
Regardless of moves and even size, do any of these dudes look like they can kick ass? My biggest issue with AEW is that the guys don’t look like they can punch through a wet paper bag with scissors in their hands.
Have you seen the working punches thrown in both companies? Awful! The only man I can say his working punches looks like they will knock you out is Scott Hall.. I can't understand why Pro Wrestlers don't take that style of working punches up?

There have been plenty of guys w/ moves that never got out of the mid card. Guys need to throw work punches, learn how to sell, get people into the match instead of relying on being a spot monkey to get the cheap crowd pops. Hopefully, people are listening to guys like Goldie, Arn, Tully, JR, Melanko, hell even Schiavone has something to offer bc he saw some of the best to do it. Better listen to those guys. Wrestling was growing during all of those previous “eras of change”. Today, less people watch wrestling than ever before. WWE can’t draw a profit from their house shows. Everything points to it going further downward. That’s the difference. I’m certain Dave is smart enough to know the difference between what’s happening now, and The Rock N Roll Express And Shawn Michaels...yet he keeps throwing out that comparison to get under Cornettes skin.

I'm starting to think it might have had more to do with Okada than originally thought. Omega is very, very good but it depends on who his dance partner is. Okada put him on a pedestal.

Okada is clearly the superior wrestler - he's one of the greatest ever already and he's 32 years old. But anyone who says there was no psychology in the Omega/Okada matches, or there is no psychology in any of Omega's matches, is either too stupid to see it or flat out lying. It's that simple. Cornette is like Trump - once he has a grudge he can't let it go and fuck the facts. He's a massive hypocrite - he dislikes Omega for exposing the business, and continually says so... on a podcast... which exposes the business. I never hear Cornette give New Japan their due respect. I started watching pro wrestling again in 2014 because of NJPW. Haku/Meng has said it himself, New Japan has the best training dojo in pro wrestling. It should be an honor to work for New Japan, AJPW, & NOAH. Their lineage puts them higher than WWE in my opinion. I agree with most of what Cornette has said. Meltzer is insane, Omega was better in NJPW, the Bucks suck, NXT is better than AEW, but New Japan is the best pro wrestling promotion in the world.
It’s most likely down to the fact Jim never went to Japan to work. I personally disagree that NJPW is the best pro wrestling out there outright because I feel they are a bit finisher happy. They are certainly the best at long term booking without question. But to me NXT has taken the strengths of New Japan and improved on it.
Meltzer criticises AEW, I believe he’s said NXT is a better show then Dynamite it’s just he will defend AEW from the stupid apes that say AEW is failing or AEW is gonna be out of business in a year
What made me started disliking Dave was when something happened and us fans wasn’t sure if it was real or not and Dave did his show and talked about for a hour it was a “work”. I was pissed! I think it was the Brock/Orton Summer Slam thing at the end of the match
Ultimately it can be broiled down to this: Cornette is willing to sacrifice friendships for his convictions and beliefs. Meltzer is not. He clearly values being with the “in” crowd of the current wrestling scene. Not saying one is right or wrong. You can definitely say Jim is the more principled of the two.

If anyone is lost on who Eddy Mansfield is, he was a wrestler way back when who appeared on ABC's 20/20 and exposed the wrestling business in an interview. He said, "When I did that [the interview] I did it for all the young guys out there night after night busting their butts who were being taken advantage of by some of the promoters. Do you think wrestling stars of today would be making the huge dollars they are if I had not stepped up and said what I said? I think not." He spoke about how the business works and the practices of certain promoters. He grandstanded later about how much his interview "improved" the business and takes credit for everything that happened after.
Cornette broke ties with his best friend of 40 years, his childhood friend, because he decided to talk to Russo on his podcast. Jim takes wrestling so seriously he will cut off contact with people he's known his whole life because of a disagreement. It's no wonder he has no kids. He would probably disown them if their favorite wrestler was Kenny Omega.

Dave lowkey is part of the reason the business is ruined. The old guard knew better than to listen to him long term. But all the younger now middle aged "performers" all revere him just because he has been around. He made the moves in the ring more important than the psychology of the match. Then him and Bryan sit around whining that it isn't like the old school. Now no one cares if an angle is hot or not. Just if the heel hit a 450 splash. Silly crap. It used to not be that way and you certainly don’t see it on Tony’s show. Dave is responsible for “smartening up” casual fans and turning them into smart marks. Storylines and In ring psychology means nothing in WWE. No consistency in the storyline, the wrestlers team up with people who were their sworn enemies a few months ago. The wrestlers look tired asf in the ring. And we got characters like Lana who make things worse.
Meltzer is a hypocrite and has let his ego go to his head (built up by years of people -- like Jim Cornette -- validating his opinions).
I hate to see two friends at odds like this but it was inevitable.
Corny hated a lot of the cartoonish, over-the-top pro-wrestling not just in WWE but also in TNA, Lucha Underground, ECW, and anywhere he finds it. This has led to Cornette sperging out on Vince Russo and Paul Heyman in addition to Vince McMahon.
But Meltzer claims to like the sports-based presentation and he's been boosting this for years (ROH, TNA) but when it comes to AEW, Meltzer is blinded by his friendships with Omega and the Bucks.

I honestly really enjoyed Kenny's matches in NJPW with Okada, Naito, Ibushi, Ishii, Kushida etc. And now he isn't there/working with these guys, I have enjoyed ONE Omega match outside of NJPW.

I agree with Cornette. Dave is finally validated by a large contingent of wrestlers.. but it's from a bunch of dweebs (little harsh.. but sorry). It does make sense with his continues love for AEW as he apparently has a move named after him; which naturally you're going to think is cool (it should be for a fan) and have some bias.. but it's embarrassing. The majority of the goofs in the ring now are the "smart" fans who think they know everything since they followed people like Dave and people of his ilk.. but the problem is Dave has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to pro-wrestling. The whole point is to MAKE MONEY, not have great matches. Also, the biggest marks are the fans who think they know exactly what is going on.. I wish the guys now would use that to their advantage and manipulate them (I'm not saying this is easy).
I've only seen a couple of Omega matches and some of the other guys in AEW.. and I just don't get it. They are hard workers, but instead of focusing so much time on moves, I wish they'd focus on their gimmick. It is spot matches by numbers and not simulated combat where you think people are beating the shit out of each other. And you can you can tell some of those guys really have never been in a real fight in their entire life.

Okada is clearly the superior wrestler - he's one of the greatest ever already and he's 32 years old. But anyone who says there was no psychology in the Omega/Okada matches, or there is no psychology in any of Omega's matches, is either too stupid to see it or flat out lying. It's that simple. Cornette is like Trump - once he has a grudge he can't let it go and fuck the facts. He's a massive hypocrite - he dislikes Omega for exposing the business, and continually says so... on a podcast... which exposes the business.
I don't even like Meltzer and have been massively disappointed with AEW. But fuck all hypocrites and fuck Jim Cornette.

I never hear Cornette give New Japan their due respect. I started watching pro wrestling again in 2014 because of NJPW. Haku/Meng has said it himself, New Japan has the best training dojo in pro wrestling. It should be an honor to work for New Japan, AJPW, & NOAH. Their lineage puts them higher than WWE in my opinion. I agree with most of what Cornette has said. Meltzer is insane, Omega was better in NJPW, the Bucks suck, NXT is better than AEW, but New Japan is the best pro wrestling promotion in the world.
It’s most likely down to the fact Jim never went to Japan to work. I personally disagree that NJPW is the best pro wrestling out there outright because I feel they are a bit finisher happy. They are certainly the best at long term booking without question. But to me NXT has taken the strengths of New Japan and improved on it.

What made me started disliking Dave was when something happened and us fans wasn’t sure if it was real or not and Dave did his show and talked about for a hour it was a “work”. I was pissed! I think it was the Brock/Orton Summer Slam thing at the end of the match

Ultimately it can be broiled down to this: Cornette is willing to sacrifice friendships for his convictions and beliefs. Meltzer is not. He clearly values being with the “in” crowd of the current wrestling scene. Not saying one is right or wrong. You can definitely say Jim is the more principled of the two.

If anyone is lost on who Eddy Mansfield is, he was a wrestler way back when who appeared on ABC's 20/20 and exposed the wrestling business in an interview. He said, "When I did that [the interview] I did it for all the young guys out there night after night busting their butts who were being taken advantage of by some of the promoters. Do you think wrestling stars of today would be making the huge dollars they are if I had not stepped up and said what I said? I think not."
He spoke about how the business works and the practices of certain promoters. He grandstanded later about how much his interview "improved" the business and takes credit for everything that happened after.
He lobbied for the wrestlers to have health insurance right before doing his exposure. I don't think that lobbying resulted in anything.
