This video is made in honor of my late older sister. I dug into the Fallout: New Vegas voice registry & cut, spliced, merged, and mixed Joshua Graham to sound as though he's speaking a single coherent monologue not found in the game back in December. Took 6+ hours to get his voice intonation just right, although there's still inconsistencies. (Edit May 10th 2023: This wasn't made using an AI.)
I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. I feel so lost in what I make.
EDIT: Thank you all very kindly. I’m glad we all share the admiration of his gentle words presented here. Subscribe for more content, I plan to make more sentimental videos in the future.

@@bonk2910 I imagine a life without faith in god would be inherently lonelier. Not to say that it’s wrong or anything. But the idea that god is always with me through all the hardships in life, has always been a comfort. My faith brought me through some of the hardest parts of my life because I felt like I had someone there, alongside me. Maybe it wasn’t true, but it brought and still does bring me comfort in this harsh world. Faith may not be for everyone , but it brings comfort and happiness in a world filled with pain and sorrow.

there you go, thats the point of Joshua. I believe his character is supposed to be a reflection on and a hard counter to the attitude of many "Christians" in America, and the world even. They talk about God's goodness, they pray for those who suffer, but they don't take it upon themselves to let God's goodness pour forth from their own hands.
He fights for his home and these people who can't defend themselves. Perhaps he goes too far, and it is up to the player to rein him in, but he is nonetheless a man of action. A man who sees that something needs to be done and does not wait and beg for an invisible hand to do it.

What it means is "And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not" which in my understanding just depends on what bible you read. For example The King James Bible says at John 1:5 "And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." while the American standard's interpretation "And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not.

What really caught me about Joshua was how he never spoke with judgment on those who couldn’t defend themselves, he didn’t look at those he was protecting as “weak” he looked at their circumstances and understood why they do not fair well, and why he can help them. A man who struggles with his own personal demons every day, and chooses the hard path and doesn’t run from his sins. That to me is why he doesn’t judge others, because he’s not in denial of his sins, he knows they are a part of him just like everyone else has their own battles with sin.

I've been listening to this video for over a year now, back then I was depressed thinking I wasn't going anywhere in life. I relapsed and decided to just push to be happier, and it worked. Now, a year later, I'm 31, fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I watched my parents both cry and breakdown, my sister calling me her baby brother and asking why she had to watch me suffer, as well as many friends grieving for me. I was close to death since it had spread to my liver and there were severe lesions and whatnot. However...I made it. Its been almost 7 months, I finish my last 2 chemo treatments, and the tumor that killed my pancreas which was 7 cm, the size of a peach, has now been reduced to scar tissue. When my oncologist told me, her and her staff said I was one of the toughest most humble patients they ever treated, and that I would be able to live a nice long comfortable life, even though I can never work again. My coworkers and boss have been constantly checking on me...even as far as raising almost 1k just for me to have. I cried and felt so loved and appreciated not just for my hard work, but for the kindness I gave to everyone. I'm still battling depression, and my mom has watched and heard me cry asking why did this have to happen. She reminded me that I survived, that I can help others fight who didn't get to have others to support them like what I had. And that's what I wanna do with my life. I wanna be a shoulder and strength for those who have no one who are fighting chronic illnesses like me. No one should have to fight alone, ever. Hearing Graham say "The fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me" reminds me of how hard I've been fighting without even realizing it. I beat one of the deadliest cancers, and now, as my mother has reminded me, my life is meant for a new path. I hope that when you read this, that you do not feel sorry for me, but that you find the strength deep within you to keep fighting, no matter how dark it gets, that you will find the light, and if not, I will come to you with fire to help illuminate the way with you, and I will call you my friend. This world is very cruel, but it doesn't mean we have to give in to its cruelty. You are stronger than that, and I believe in you.

There's so many errors in this grotesque pile of words I'm disgusted to call a paraphrase that I went back to elementary school to make sure that it isn't the teachers that are responsible for this fuck up. Funny interaction in the end cause the gatekeeper of my local school wouldn't let me through because I was too old while ironically he was 64 years old and had the nasty reputation of smelling the girls' hair as they went through. • @SeabraPaulo

Joshua Graham presents a very accurate, though often misunderstood, portrait of christianity. As you'll find in John 14, 15 and 16, the mission of Jesus Christ isn't to say that if you follow him, life will be good and easy. In fact it's the complete opposite, he promises that life will be difficult, even more so if you take up your cross and follow him. But what he does promise is meaning, it's the light in the darkness, it's the hope that not a single moment of suffering, of your suffering, will be in vain...
Without that hope, life becomes mere luck of the draw. If it goes well, carry on, if it goes badly, yield. Thing is, none of us ever want to yield, and when our loved ones do they take a piece of our soul with them. But if life is suffering and if there's no ultimate meaning to any of it, why continue to exist? If you are suffering so much, and the end goal is the same either way, why not just pack it in and go gentle into that good night?
The suffering of the world is what leads most people to abandon God, and in that you're certainly not alone. But a world without God isn't a world without suffering, it's just a world where suffering doesn't matter.

Even if we dont believe in their existence its just comfy to know that you are existing and connected to everything around you, and it includes all the good things even if they are sunk in the depths of the bad ones. Maybe, as much as it agonizes him to do so, he puts his other bandaged hand on your shoulder to give it a reassuring squeeze.

I always found it fascinating playing Honest Hearts as an actual skeptic because Joshua and Daniel were both devout in their beliefs but amazingly- the brutal warrior was the one who more accommodating, spiritual and actually showed me WHY someone would want to believe at all. Daniel was preachy while Joshua was a preacher, Daniel quoted sculpture while Joshua acted biblically. Daniel was defensive about his flaws while Joshua wore his scars everyday, Daniel talked about God but Joshua showed me his Mercy.

One must have a capacity or even familiarity with evil to understand and speak against it.
Not to support the actions of Joshua before his burning, but there is something more authentic and commanding about a man who has done evil, and suffered for it, asking without commanding for someone he encounters to be good. And something rewarding in saving him from his own potential relapse into evil, if only because we are all of us flawed. Man does not respect the naive or unexperienced, and for good reason. A man who has touched hell has more to speak of in matters of heaven, than one who has never seen or experienced either.

I'm not christian, but I am happy that there is at least Joshua here in the world. I’m a Mormon myself, and oftentimes I see us depicted inaccurately in media, and frankly that’s fine. But Joshua…jeez, man. I remember running into him in Vegas, and I don’t think I’ve ever met a character I can emphasize more with. So much of what he says I believe and is apart of my life, and everything about him seems so…I don’t know, heart touching? This is a character that isn’t real and has never existed, and yet I feel bad for him, admire him, understand him. In a lot of ways Joshua is who I hope to become, really. Someone who’s made mistakes and knows that, and is trying to repent for them. And yet at the same time doesn’t crush themselves with self doubt or hatred, that loves others and knows they love him. He even has the compassion to care for his enemies; I remember finding out that if you tell Joshua you’ll harm the Dead Horses, he first threatens you, but finishes with a warning about how murdering good people is bad for the soul, and how it’s the most important reason why you shouldn’t. It sounds awesome, but if you think about it, isn’t that some kind of compassion? By telling you it’s the most important reason, he sets aside his own threat and appreciation for the Dead Horses, and instead thinks about YOU. He doesn’t want you to harm yourself. Maybe he doesn’t want you to make the same mistakes he did when he helped Caesar.

A couple years ago, April 30th, 2022, my stepfather suddenly passed away at three in the morning from a heart attack.
A couple weeks went by, and while I was in my VoTech class (as this was still during high school when my stepdad had passed), I found this video in my recommended feed while I was looking for music to listen to while I worked. By the time the video ended when I first watched, I was on the verge of tears because of how close to home that it really hit.
A couple of days ago...and now, at the time I'm writing up this comment in hopes TH-cam doesn't take it down (May 13th, 2024), I realize that Joshua reminds me a lot of my stepdad, which is probably why I connect with Joshua so positively.
In fact...sometimes when I listen to this video, out of the number of times I have since I found this video, I don't necessarily hear just Joshua Graham talking...sometimes I hear my stepdad saying all of these things to me, through Joshua's voice.
So...for you, the creator of this video...thank you. And I wish you the best, wherever you may be right now.
To everyone else...be there for your loved ones. Tell them you love them. Cherish the moments you have with them. Because you never know when they can be taken away from you. Much love.

That's how you know characters have depth and purpose in their actions. It is sad to see games like Outer Worlds throw it back in our faces. I stopped playing the game after I took the priest on his vision quest, only for him to leave with no answers and for everything in his life to still be a charade. When you pigeonhole characters into positions where they never change, and gain no convictions or do not build a foundation for existing convictions...they feel empty.
It is a shame they don't make games like they used to.

I talked to that man every day for those 4 years. We would all party up and talk all night playing destiny and other games. We also loved fallout. He helped me out so much when my wife left me and he was the one person who would sit there and listen to my troubles. I miss him so much and I havent been able to cry in a couple years because of trauma. And this video just brought me to tears thinking about him. Science has ruled out to alot of people that a being like God can't exist to most people when this "magic" does exist and it's hard to believe this type of stuff when you're told by everyone in your life and in books that there's no way a God can exist. I asked for answers and he gave them to me when I gave in. That's what I mean it's more than just a coping mechanism cuz it's very real even I can't give you a Google source or go back and time and show you the stuff happening. I love this line so much. It puts in your head that even though Joshua's faith was everything to him, he also knew that people who he loved were also just as important as his faith.

Becuase they have faith in him and thats he he prays for them and inturn he prays for to the lord like a fire of coals together they keep warmer together so their faith burns more fervantly and pleases the lord. when someone prays for healing or something good God hears it and when you have friends who pray for each this impressives God and he grants this prayer I can't remember where this line is the gospel where tells the story of friends praying for for him he impressed and says something along these lines but better if anyone knows off by heart plase put it here as you do it better then me.

The video has helped me ground myself in shitty situations Joshua Graham is one the few fictional characters I would see and immediately run towards and hug him crying because Graham is an honest blunt person who is very willing to be a good person

Think on it, and look in your heart.
When the walls come tumbling down, when you lose everything you have, you always have family. The fire that had kept me alive, was love. Their love. God's love.

I think Joshua might be the best depiction of my religion in any piece of media I've seen. The things he says about God, faith, work, family, etc, and also the way he says them, it all feels like something I've heard on Sunday.
I think Honest Hearts might be the best thing I've seen in Fallout, because every word the Burned Man says feels like he's saying it directly to me, like I'm 11 years old again and he's my bishop, talking to me about what's going to be expected of me when I gain the Aaronic Priesthood.
I don't know if I'll ever find something or someone in a videogame who makes me feel as driven and inspired as he does

That encapsulates exactly what I felt talking to my Bishop when I first got the priesthood aswell. He wishes to reach out with love but will defend what he loves when needed

its also one of the accurate depiction of a religious man
most games would depict it as a bad thing, a lunatic, or not even a focus most of the time

As a Muslim, I couldn’t agree more. I’m going through a very hard time rn and I’ve always turned to friends and God, always made out on top. When we go through tough times, we either come out as victors or we come out as wiser men to help other achieve victories and rise in the world. There is no such thing as failure when you’ve tried all you that you could to succeed. God bless

“The fire that kept me alive was love, their love, god’s love”
That part made me choke up and it hit really close to me. I love it. Just to clarify I lost a friend and a mother figure years ago but what they left behind still burns inside me.

I come back to this video every once in awhile and it always brings me back to that same night the day my uncle passed 2 years ago, while I have moved on and still keep his memory alive this video will always give me that feeling of hope and grief. Thank you.
