The power planter paired with the Dewalt Cement drill is the way to go. It has stronger power to plow through rocks and roots, and has the E-clutch system, which stops the torque of the drill when it encounters resistance such as root, so you dont snap your wrist. It also has the side handle so you and can add pressure to drill down instead of the auger getting away from you. Best thing Ive invested in was the Power Planter with the Cement drill. AMAZING. Rocks and roots still require some extra work, but I definitely am planting things with way more ease in sketchier spots with it. PLUS my back is way less angry at me at the end of the day. I find I use the 5" auger the most. I have the longer augers so I can stand when I am planting. Total game changer. NH soil is rocky....#GraniteState. So excited to watch how your verbena do. Oddly, I havent found PW Superbena anywhere up here. Im not sure why. So Ill have to watch how yours do. Ive been wanting the Sparkling Amethyst, but it just doesnt exist up here.
I'm hesitant on the bigger auger and drills... seems like overkill for me... my shovel works well. :-). Strange how some PW plants can't be found anywhere... I had a lot of trouble finding some Rockin' Playin' the Blues Salvia this year... had to go to five or six places before I found some!
I took 4” golf tees and used E6000 to glue glass gems on them ( the kind for flower vases) and placed where my bulbs were so wouldn’t plant on top of them. Pink gems for bulbs, and green gems for where my dodecatheon are whose leaves disappear!
I did that last fall, and had problems with the glue not holding, and frost heaving up the tees. Plus squirrels found them to be very interesting play toys.
I am so glad you planted these in your beds. I started to plant some in mine but was not sure if they would do better in pots. Now, I will try. Everything is looking wonderful!
Someone planted hyacinths in a random place and they have been coming back for at least 25 years. When we bought this home 25 plus years ago someone planted surprises all over the yard and as I said the hyacinths have been blooming ever since. Granted their not as full as they could be but I don’t do anything to them just leave them be. Maybe I should hit them with some fertilizer and see what happens.🌸💚🙃
In zone 8 the verbena will come back. What zone are you in? If you mulch they may! Also I thought that we shouldn't cut the hyanicith leaves off until they are completely dead?

haha - this dress is OLD and keeps me cool. Flip flops are a MUST so I can spray myself down when I get hot!
I garden in a 2 piece bathing suit. I try to wear as little as possible when it gets hot.

I have hyacinths coming back from previous owners too. I give them a little bulb fertilizer once a year. Not sure if it does anything or not. :-)

We are in Zone 7. The hyacinth leaves were coming out if I lightly brushed up against them... they were not connected to the bulbs any more.
Looking forward to seeing them in full bloom. What annual was planted in this area last year?
Nothing was there last year... they were created only in the fall, and I put in the hyacinths and violas at that time.
Why didn't you leave the violas in-ground and plant the verbenas with them? Violas self seed so easily.
I don't care for the violas as they wane in the summer heat.
