PatsY I have been watching your videos this weekend. I just moved my sewing room to another room in my home and reorganized so the I have two desk butted back to back which gives me a large area for a quilt to lay. I have been quilting for many years but have never Free Motion Quilted. Your videos are wonderful and so inspiring. I can't wait to do this thread painting. Thanks for your great teaching.
Patsy your amazing with this pansy all over the place and especially the thread painting and you have picked up my skills in a huge way. Thank-you so very much. I'm Christine. Don is my husband and he is learning to sew and he was so very excited watch you sew the pansy. We will be doing what you have done in your 2 videos. We are really going to have to keep an eye on you from now on.
Oh my GOD ! How INSPIRING !!! I've never heard of the term 'thread painting' until now. I'm a big fan of Annemieke Mein and your demonstration explains all! Thankyou and I lookforward to seeing you again on TH-cam.
Patsy, I must say this video was really quite good and instructional. I have never tried trapunto, but after watching your easy to follow step by step, and seeing the fab results, I will definitely give it a try. Your free motion quilting is great too! Hope to se more in the future!
Patsy.......Bravo..........you are such a natural in front of the camera! I have purchased your quilting videos, which are the absolute best! Your relaxed and thorough teaching style make learning easy and fun. Keep up the great work you are doing. Best To You From Oregon, LuAnn Kessi
Thank you Patsy! I've watched several tutorials on trapunto and keep going back to yours! Youre presentation is so easy to listen to, easy to understand and follow.. I do hope you do more videos! Thanks again!! cheers, cindy...
You are amazing to watch. I am enthralled by your skills and artistic ability. I only started quilting this year. I am a seamstress, mostly dealing with historical costuming. When I was asked by a friend to make a baby quit I must admit to finding the idea boring, a bit like the sewing equivalent of paint by numbers but I see now it is so much more creative and artistic than I have ever imagined. You have given me the confidence to experiment more and more. Thank you!
You are a great teacher! You have inspired me to step out of the box and try something new. I can't wait to get started on a baby quilt that I have postponed for the longest time, not knowing how to start. Thank you so much!
Patsy,Loved the tutorial, your husband is great at filming ,most others are all blurry, people don't take care about that or someones hands are in the way of what could have been a crucial moment. The part 2 of this and music at the end was well matched. you love that work ,the machine loves you,it was as if you and that machine were in a dance together.I doubt that I will ever do this kind of work ,but it was an amazing treat for me for a few seconds to watch this romance. Thanks Ella from Texas.I don't believe anyone could have done better as the two of you ,making this for us to witness~
Fabulous tutorial as usual. You’re a hoot. I love your easy going way. You taught me some great fabric dyeing techniques and now trapunto. Keep up the great work. You are appreciated. ❤️👍🇨🇦😷be safe
I watched #1 and #2 of your tutorial on trupunto; It was great and now I will try something in trupunto. I have never done that technique before but I believe after watching your videos I can do. Thanks again for sharing your technique. I have seen about all your video as I'm a newbee quilter and having tons of fun. Have a great Holiday Season.
Thank you so much for the videos on this....You make it look so easy and encouraging!! I have just got back into quilting after many years and your videos have help me immensely..I did quilts the old fashion way and now a whole new way is opening up for me!!
I just bought my first sewing machine. This is quite an inspiration and quite frankly I did not even know it was possible do such detailed artistic work . I'm setting my sites high now : )
Trapunto looks like it'll give a gorgeous effect on a quilt. You've inspired me to try it on a baby quilt for my new grandson, named Valentine. The quilt top has pre-printed panels of cute zoo animals. I'll try to stitch an outline around each one with trapunto batting pinned same way as you have to give it extra dimension. Thanks so much for your video and encouragement! :)
I found this video amazing, informative, well thought out and easy to follow. It does, leave on with a hunger for more, lol. Great presentation!! I can't wait to try this. As a novice, this kind of layered process gives me lots to try and explore, with plenty of key techniques. Thank you very much for your time and energy. It has, indeed, inspired me to explore. Gratefully, Carol
Fun? Inspirational? YOU BET! ... i am going to go try this out ... THANK YOU for your kindness in sharing this technique with others who are not as proficient as you are ...:)
I watched both of your videos on Trapunto Machine Quilting and they are wonderful. You are so creative. This is great to be able to see this in action. :) Great job, Susie
Your work is impeccable and amazing. Such beautiful details. You obviously have a background in art. I can't wait to tty my own trapunto quilt. Thanks for your informative videos and keep them coming. I am a long time sewer but new at quilting. I got into it for free motion, appliqué and artistic quilts and i am finding a wealth information online with videos like yours. Again, thank you and I await your new videos Gisele
Thanks so much! That video was the first one we made many years ago. There are many more and my blog also has lots of free info on it about quilting-related topics. I'm hosting a month long free ruler work class (this is a special type of ruler-guided free motion quilting) for the month of January 2018. You can find my blog at this url: blog.patsythompsondesigns.com/
Patsy loved this tutorial and the techniques you used. Loved the creative touches and highlights you added it looked Amazing. You're a Wonder thanks for sharing!!!!
So much love this technique and want to try it on a kaleidoscope quilt which I am making outlining three cardinals. Thank you, Patsy. Love all your tutorials.
Thank you for this video (and part 1 of Trapunto). I didn't understand this technique before, but you've made it very clear. Can't wait to give it a shot!
Thank you so much for doing this video. I am wanting to start doing some Trapunto and you sound like you're just here in the room giving realistic advice.
Thank you so much for your video. It really helped me to understand trapunto. I wish more artists like you would show us how they do these type things. You are so wonderful to have shared this. Thank you, Judy
Thanks so much! There are loads of other free video tutes on youtube now that we've posted since we made the trapunto videos, so I hope you enjoy those as well! Patsy
Forgot to say that I also love your choice of music Grieg, Tchaikovsky; they have been my favourites for 50+ years and I love doing my quilting with classical music. :)
ty i was wondering what kinda quilt i was making my surgeon until i saw your trapunto. new dimensions clinic...deserves trapunto, dont you think. perfect process for the name on the quilt. ty
Thanks for this tutorial! I heard of trapunto (in Leah Days tutorials about Trappliqué) before and know I now how to do it myself. I did try it right away and it really is fun to do! You were right :-)
Pat, This is the easiest "Trapunto" video I have watched. Thank you so much and I love your work. My motto is......."K.I.S.S." which means "keep-it-simple-stupid." Me talking to me. Jeani
Thank you so much for your sweet comment, and hugs and kisses from the US! Patsy Muchas gracias por tu comentario dulce, y los abrazos y besos de los EE.UU.! Patsy
Fantastic work,if only i could manage top quilting ,it lookes so easy but i go al over the place, have to practice and practice.Thank you for your amazing tutorial
I quilted around the purple threadpainted parts but not the yellow threadpainting, using monofilament thread. Still photos of finished piece are on my blog in a post dated 7/10/07.
Thanks for the compliment! I am working on a trapunto class that will use this pansy as the basis for the class, but I have to revise my drawing so that it will be easy to fuse it up really fast. So, yes, I think a pattern will be forthcoming, but it wll be a few months at least! Patsy
Your comment has made my day! Thanks for the positive thoughts and I hope you have fun with this. Once you do this stuff once, you realize just how easy it is. Patsy
This would be great on the back of a jacket. I love quilted wearable art. You get a much larger audience for your art work. You become a walking art gallery.
I drew a normal sized pansy on transparency paper and then enlarged it with an overhead projector. The large drawing was then my template for cutting out fusible web.
Hi Lisa, I own several older Pfaff models that are all basically the same machine except some have a few more decorative stitches. The lowest number is a 2030 and the highest number is a 2046, with many in between. They are all great machines but the presser foot for Pfaffs must be in a "halfway" position for FMQ and it gets in the way because of this. There is a narrow harp space, around 6 1/2 in, and the foot cuts out another 2 1/2 inches. This makes FMQ hard. Checkout Babylock. Patsy
Very inspiring! It looks very easy but you paint with thread and needle. I would like to be able to do a trapunto like yours but where do we get supplies, etc. I have never done a quilt. Thank you.
Wow that looks like a lot of fun ...free hand sewing how do you do that ..... Yes I'm a newbie at quilting ....but I love Trapunto and you made it look so easy ... thank you julie from Canada
You are an absolute artist with a sewing machine!!! I have never seen this process before and would love to see more from you. Do you have a web site or instructional site? Phyllis
Hi there. I have a large piece of fabric which has children's designs printed on it, I had planned to applique it to a T-shirt. I can see how you did the truapunto and I can disassemble the T-shirt somewhat to be able to applique by machine. I understand that I would put batting on the part of the shirt where the design is. But should I back it with some embroidery mesh so it is comfortable for the wearer
Hi Patsy. Trying to learn as much as possible about free motion quilting before I take the plunge. You do beautiful work. Thank you. I also really appreciate the tutorials themselves, especially the classical music that you have chosen. Do you listen to the classics at home whilst you are sewing?

Well done! The video was as great as the quilt too.
Very well done. Can't wait to try this technique/Ellie
Those are machine quilting gloves, and they help you grip the fabric as you move it across the machine bed. It makes machine quilting MUCH easier!
Thank you Patsy, that was so inspirational
Enjoyed it immensely.
