I would personally not be the least bit happy in the wilderness if I had to stay outside in freezing rain and all I had was enough for a being there during the day, or less, because I lost all my stuff and now have to make do with the wet clothes on my back. So happy you are covering my favorite race and topic, Dwarves! I watch the beginning of The Hobbit over and over because the scene on Erebor captivates me.
Around 21:00 describing the second language of symbology reminds me of the star trek TNG episode "Darmok" Where the aliens can only talk in allegories like: 'Darmok and Jalad on the ocean.' (meaning two enemy hero's stuck together in a ship but who must help each other to survive otherwise both die) And: 'Temba, his arms wide' which I think meant the hero who freely gave help.... (IIRC) That type of language makes for great role playing too!
Hi Mr Rhexx. I have bought your PDF for Monster Races, and I have to say it is AWESOME! (And I have questions about it) Highly recommended to all your viewers and D&D players! I just LOVE the three races / classes you created, it is amazing work, with the stats, the story, the many character options, the sheer flavour of it all! And the art is very nice too! Bravo! Celestials, Succubi and Ghosts seem like VERY desirable options for PCs, and now YOU have created a viable way to play them (3rd edition's "savage species" was not really viable)! This is fantastic work! I will, definitely, continue following your creations (I already follow your TH-cam channel with passion) Further, I have always fantasied on a Succubus with a Good-hearted nature - either on a redemption path or a will to not be evil (since I began playing D&D, more than 30 years ago)! And you mentioned that option! Thank you! Which leads me to my question / request for added information and details on some options that you mentioned. You mention in your work the path to redemption for the Succubus, which is awesome (and I loved it that you cleverly detailed the implication between morality and the inherently lewd mind of the race). You also offer a nice choice of origin options, some of which meaning that the individual creature needs not be inherently driven by Evil intent - which is also very awesome. So here are three "basic" questions: 1 If a Succubus is on the path to redemption (or wishing to escape the fate of being tied to Hell or Abyss), and truly wanting to leave the path of Evil, what would be her alignment? - Would she still be NE, or have the alignment that she wishes to pursue, or having an undetermined True Alignment, until she reaches redemption? - I suppose she be detected as Evil with magic, until a God of Good would validate her atonement, what do you think? 2. If a Succubus has a background which means that she did not choose/deserve her damnation (namely, background option #7, or if she was born from two succubi, with the genetic flaw of not feeling inherently Evil), and she wishes to escape the fate of being doomed to be an evil demon, what would be her path to redemption? She may even have such a story that she did not ever commit evil acts. I think of several background stories, two of which makes her devoid of any Evil intent (which are somehow far-fetched, but make for a very interesting case of tragic back-story): 2a- She would wake up after death as a Succubus, and not wanting to commit evil, and be a slave to a powerful devil until something happens (either a rebellion or her master king deposited), and she manages to escape to the Prime 2b- She would be sent on her first evil mission and try to find asylum with a church of Good and Redemption (such as Ilmater or Lathander or Selune - or maybe Sunie, in a different way, or even Bahamut...) What would be the path then? 3. The same kind of questioning could also be relevant in more "grey" cases. If a Succubus has committed bad sins, not as evil intent, but out of misjudgement and stupidity (such as background options #2, #6, #10, #11)... how wold you judge that she has made enough good deeds (7 times for each sin)? I would assume it would be the DM's fiat, and probably a running backstory throughout the campaign. 4. Last,If the subject interests you, I have further "advanced" questions / subjects to ponder: The backstory of the race is a tragic one, where the gods were... kind of absolute jerks - very much like the Greek gods were. Punishing angels for being benevolent and wanting some agency, by rendereing them evil and destroying their reason to be... (seems like the angels of love were CG, very Good indeed, and the gods were very lawaful and their actions were LE) - Would you consider the possibility of a Succubus being still Good at heart towards the mortal races, and angry at the Gods that cursed her and her race? And if so, what would be the options (especially in the Forgotten Realms, where having no Patron God is kind of impossible)? - If the only sin they committed was to want to chose who to love, only 7 good deeds would circumvent the transgression, would it not? But then, there is the matter of injustice and rebellion... There is a very deep theological / moral questioning there... - Would there be gods that appeared after the fall of the Angels of Love, who would consider taking one such under their wings? If so, would it upset the balance of alliances between the gods? - Would some Chaotic Good deities or powers (I think of the Eladrins) that would accept them and help them escape the realm of fiends? - Maybe there would be a goddess of Succubus Redemption, quite the way that Eilistraee is to the Drow? (And yes, I know Eilistraee is your favourite power of all D&D universes, and I definitely understand why) Thank you for any answers, and thank you for your work. Cheers.

24:53 I always assumed that under those same circumstances, Dwarves would also be afraid of big, open skies. Maybe without a cavern ceiling they might be afraid they could fall upward into the blue. Also... dragons come from there.

Great series of videos!!! So fascinating to learn about the dwarves, and how so many aspects of how their society is structured and run have a common thread running through them, it all stemming from their temperament and their population crisis. Would you consider doing a video on their food, past-time activities, celebrations, culture and so on? Pretty much what the daily life of a dwarf is? Once again, great video, thank you!!
Rhexx, since you're covering Forgotten Realms, I need to point out you did not mention the Thundering which resulting in twins becoming common in dwarven society and an increase in dwarven fertility

I seriously love your enthusiasm and knowledge. It's also pretty great for inspiration or just listening to while doing routine tasks at work. Your vid about the Plane of air made me want to make a campaign taking place there. Actually it made me want to visit it, but that would be a stretch xD Keep it up :D
Good episode. Recommend looking into jungle dwarves. They do have a minor affinity towards water and can find fresh water tables in the jungle. Their God Thard Harr is also served by some water elementals.
What an amazing new video series, It's been great to hear more about dwarves. They've been one of my favorite D&D races and cultures, so thank you for doing this. ...also I hope that the comments aren't full of ignorance and hate an if so that you moderate it... It's doesn't feel good
I kinda like the Caste System they have for Dwarves in the Dragon Age series. They have Noble, Warrior, Smith, Artisan, Mining, Merchant, Servant, and Casteless. How it works is your Caste depends upon your same gender parent, so if your mother is a Noble but your Father is a Warrior and you're born a male you are a member of the Warrior Caste. This is separate from Clans and can be a part of the Clan system.
please do what they dont tell you about halflings!!! im running a game right now where my party is an adventuring outreach party for the "church" of Yondalla and id love any new info i could use! love the videos keep up the good work :D
Y'know I'd LOVE a vid on fire giants! 🔥 I started building giants' countries in my homebrew world & I realized fire giants are totally immune to flame, so they must be INCREDIBLE smiths, able to work molten metal with their bare hands! In regular D&D pics they seem to resemble huge dark skinned dwarves to reflect this, though I picture them more like dark elves. Would love to know their personal lore apart from giants as a whole.
I love your videos on the hidden lore of the different races and monsters. If you haven't already, you should do a video on goblins! Those sneaky bastards are hiding something, I just know it 😄
dude 2 things, 1 you ow us a werewolf video, 2 you should be selling pdfs of all your research with cited sources, apa stile format, so we can use it as official books in our campaign
1. Did he promise one on patron or smth? If not he doesn't owe u shit 2. No, why would that make them official books, if they aren't released by wotc its not official material, simple as that.
I got that monster character creator thing and it seriously is top notch content guys. I’m making a succubus character who wants to redeem herself but is so out of her element with the whole kindness thing that she’s recoiled a bit and become shy
Hey man, love your stuff, it really gives me inspiration for some kind of dwarf-based mountain adventure! But just wanted to clarify something: are dwarf monarchs in forgotten realms lore only allowed to be male and therefore Kings, or are dwarf Queens allowed? The same to be said for chieftains and elders hat vote (obviously changeable in your own setting)
Well , lore wise , since females are greatly outnumber by males it could be said that they would not be allowed to take such a dangerous station as a queen or chieftain , but elder would not be a problem i guess Ofcourse , its your setting so do what you want Idk if you play videogames , but an example of this could be the Krogan from Mass Effect , where females are also greatly outnumber and birthrates are very low , the males rules the clans and society but females have a unique power/leverage over pretty much everything since they have a central role in survival
age and the experience that it gives is more important than gender for dwarf leadership. again like the video said, being the ruler means you have to fulfill dwarven stereotypes about leadership
Clan Duergar lives! As above, So below! Though many are lost to evil so profoundly that they are warped & twisted in their appearance there are many, many more still with blood that's pure! Many deformed by evil still hold to their dwar. This alone sets precedence for Clan Duergar to be universally supported in liberating the upper, under & lower dark once & for all! To it's treasure! Clan Duergar!
So Dwarves and Giants have runes in common, resource issues in common, but diverge after that and do so radically. Dwarves and Giants in AD&D do have a LOT of common themes once you explore the issue until you get into lesser giants and giant-kins.

I always assumed that under those same circumstances, Dwarves would also be afraid of big, open skies. Maybe without a cavern ceiling they might be afraid they could fall upward into the blue. Also... dragons come from there.
These videos singlehandedly knocked me down from the elven habit of looking down at smaller races. I'm genuinely looking forward to playing a dwarf now haha. Thank you for enlightening us
Please oh please put out as much D&D content as you can, my friend. I love lore and I certainly love D&D lore specifically plus you compact it in I would dare to say an ingenious way: light but also very informative and easily digestible. I watched almost all of you dungeons Playlist minus a few recent ones from the last few months but I'm eager for more! Keep it up and I hope there is more to be had with you terrific dungeons introductions!
13:55 *Talking about exlies as you pull up art I used for a dwarf exlie for awhile*
...... I feel called out. lol
I don't play D&D or any table top for that matter BUT I do enjoy lore and your lore videos are entertaining, informative and I don't feel lost or overwhelmed. TY
Not important
I have encountered quite a few dense and esoteric lore channels (most warhammer stuff) or channels that approach the subject from a table top or player/DM perspective (which is fine but not my cup o tea) its nice to get a slice of a world I don't know in a way I can digest and enjoy.
And the evening just got better. Thanks again.
Yes been waiting for this. Dwarves what not to love about them!
Rhexx, since you're covering Forgotten Realms, I need to point out you did not mention the Thundering which resulting in twins becoming common in dwarven society and an increase in dwarven fertility
he did, it was in one of the previous videos.
@@marthachampagne316 pooh need to rewatch did not see it mentioned
@@marthachampagne316 I just watched both videos, and no, he didn't.
Got your Monster Classes book, and you did an amazing job! It gives me hardcore 3rd Edition Savage Species vibes, and I'm loving it.
Have you ever thought of taking the audio and putting it into a podcast for people to listen to when TH-cam isn't an option?
Idea. A dwarf that revolutionized the practice of keeping history, so much so that his personal Rune ended up becoming the Rune meaning "history"
These videos are so packed full of useful information, MrRhexx is the ultimate DM encounter planning tool. You rock dude.
Dude, this series was amazing! I would love to watch more like this with other races
I feel like my DM-ing skills increase with every video
If you've ever been in an underground mine then you easily understand how hard it is to know how deep you are, you can be hundreds or thousands of feet deep and have barely noticed the descent unless you went down a shaft
I would love some huge tome of all this knowledge. It would be huge, educational and sit upon its own stand in my house.
I seriously love your enthusiasm and knowledge. It's also pretty great for inspiration or just listening to while doing routine tasks at work.
Your vid about the Plane of air made me want to make a campaign taking place there. Actually it made me want to visit it, but that would be a stretch xD
Keep it up :D
Awesome mate you've truly done the subject justice! 👍
Good episode. Recommend looking into jungle dwarves. They do have a minor affinity towards water and can find fresh water tables in the jungle. Their God Thard Harr is also served by some water elementals.
Love the content. Also love the fact you have a supporter that goes by the name of Lactose the Intolerant, that made me laugh.
Just ordered that PDF.
Please keep up the great content!!
These were amazing. Thank you so much for doing all this
You sort of got me into D&D
9:26 That dwarf look like the cat crying meme XD
You should do a video on a demon prince like Graz'zt or Zuggtmoy
When you ask a dwarf girl at the bar for her number and she gives you a rock... Great success!
got youre 2 pdfs for sale. and dam i love them
Favorite fantasy race, thank you.
Please do as much as possible on Kroesus. I have always wanted to play in an all Dwarven group searching for it.
I would love a video discussing Druid Lore!
They are my favorite class.
I'm watching this alone in the woods and I am indeed a VERY happy human.
What an amazing new video series, It's been great to hear more about dwarves.
They've been one of my favorite D&D races and cultures, so thank you for doing this.
...also
I hope that the comments aren't full of ignorance and hate an if so that you moderate it...
It's doesn't feel good
This series so far has me intrigued to try out a dwarf character
I really loved the language stuff. Great video!
Great videos bro! Keep it going!
This mini series is brilliant, I can't help but wonder if is possible to do something similar with other races.
Y'know I'd LOVE a vid on fire giants! 🔥
I started building giants' countries in my homebrew world & I realized fire giants are totally immune to flame, so they must be INCREDIBLE smiths, able to work molten metal with their bare hands! In regular D&D pics they seem to resemble huge dark skinned dwarves to reflect this, though I picture them more like dark elves. Would love to know their personal lore apart from giants as a whole.
Excellent one, can't wait for the next.
My players are enjoying your monster classes book keep it up. We're looking forward to monster classes 2
I don't even play dnd and I love these videos, good stuff man 👏
A few creatures I've been wanting are the familiars/humongous (could be different videos if you want) and the rest monster
8:12 Me a human alone in Wilderness: “This fucking sucks!”
I love your videos on the hidden lore of the different races and monsters. If you haven't already, you should do a video on goblins! Those sneaky bastards are hiding something, I just know it 😄
Love the old art from books of old. I haven’t seen in years
dude 2 things, 1 you ow us a werewolf video, 2 you should be selling pdfs of all your research with cited sources, apa stile format, so we can use it as official books in our campaign
1. Did he promise one on patron or smth? If not he doesn't owe u shit
2. No, why would that make them official books, if they aren't released by wotc its not official material, simple as that.
@@stevenyoung9738 fanboys are cancer
Goliath next please, love your vids.
I got that monster character creator thing and it seriously is top notch content guys. I’m making a succubus character who wants to redeem herself but is so out of her element with the whole kindness thing that she’s recoiled a bit and become shy
don't forget to talk about the Giant Wars, unlike the elven "crown wars" the dwarfs won their war against the Giants.
Gender doesn't matter in any station, except some of the priesthoods (can't remember which).
Thanks!
Well , lore wise , since females are greatly outnumber by males it could be said that they would not be allowed to take such a dangerous station as a queen or chieftain , but elder would not be a problem i guess
Ofcourse , its your setting so do what you want
Idk if you play videogames , but an example of this could be the Krogan from Mass Effect , where females are also greatly outnumber and birthrates are very low , the males rules the clans and society but females have a unique power/leverage over pretty much everything since they have a central role in survival
age and the experience that it gives is more important than gender for dwarf leadership. again like the video said, being the ruler means you have to fulfill dwarven stereotypes about leadership
Great job man, keep it up
My next Dwarf character will definitely be an exile pretending to be a "lost brother".
these videos are just slay after slay
Great series!
rock and stone!
Love these. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks for the lore! ^^
Medieval farming was actually a very cooperative endeavour
Was there any interesting information on dwarvish alcohol?
these videos are geing to make me play a dwarf much differently than i did before. gonna be making much more interesting characters now.
This will help me a lot building up the dwarven society in my story! I have a question, where did you find that dwarven script from @20:58
