Unrelated to this video but I need to share. Made my first ever mock scrape on Aug 15. 4 days later a doe and spike hit it. Then it seemed to go cold. Now 3 different bucks have visited it the last 4 days. Love the licking branch. Thanks Jeff
It’s not always hunting pressure though, in my area the deer go away for a couple of weeks when the farmers cut hay. They are in and out of the fields everyday for a week with loud machinery.
I have never seen the "lull" have been hunting how jeff talks about for years...its common sense really , thank u for explaining it so well..... ps: put up a mock scrape and a big mature doe used it that night... pretty cool.. still learning, thank u for all ur videos
Jeff will u please talk a little more about Ga hunting everything applies that ur talking about for shore but come to Ga and show us how to get it done in the mts .Thanks for everything
Problem with public land is no matter how careful I am there is always others that aren't. Waited for a good wind to hunt a spot that a mature buck was living during the summer, only to find the deer where gone and my camera had been tampered with. This was the 3rd day of the season, and was a long way back.
@@tyfode224 I also only hunt public land in Michigan lot of the times I find are the best spots are right by the road. Just like jeff say in his video walk a was down the from where everyone is going in. And then cut into the woods
Neighbors dogs lull for me . Visiting friends down the road(via my property) Feeling intentionally set in motion. First year property/farm/house. Been here 2 1/2 months. Small waterhole ,hanging vine ,stand ,camera set up. “Exactly “how you say it would be. The dogs are a bummer.
Good info I watched your video earlier this week on cold fronts and was fortunate to shoot a nice buck with my seven year old watching on Tuesday. I am also from mn. So I have now downloaded your app!!
If you’ve burned your stand or stands at the beginning of the season, is there any way to reverse it? If you stay out of your property for several weeks will that eliminate the lull? Stay out a month?
Depends on adjoining pressure and the deer needs at that portion of the season. Basically if there's more pressure outside your area, then laying off works.
Just don't burn your ass in the first place. I made that mistake the 2019 season. Missed 2 mature bucks in 2 days and didn't see shit the rest of the season.
Had to spray off half of one my plots (none brassica side) due to grasses, then planted with rye. The deer have been hammering it the whole time. So, in my experience this year, rye plantings won't hurt your hunt at all. First year property with Jeff's advise per these vids and the plan is coming together even better than I had hoped.
This video is spot on! In previous years I have hunted multiple properties extremely hard here in my home state of iowa. Up to 25 sits in the first 30 days of the season only to have the mature bucks practically vanish the rest of the season. My approach was like a war of attrition and I thought eventually one of the old bucks would slip up. Needless to say I was not successful. Now I take a very cautious mindset when I go into the woods. *QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
Another great video! I've been following you for the last 3 years and have to say it's been a major help hunting in northeastern WI. There is no ag land for 20+ miles. My deer herd has seem to grown substantially since taking your advise and applying it to my land. This is the first year I've planted a brassica blend with austrian winter peas and have to say it's been amazing. Definitely going to be hard to stay away from the plot for a few more weeks. Keep up the videos Jeff. They have been an excellent resource for me and many others. Thanks for all the insight!
Great news went from 0 bucks not in the last 2 months, to in the last 4 days we got two different 8 points and 2 little 6 points, we’re only shooting 8+ this year so awesome to see some, I’m 17 and only ever shot 1 buck in my life and it was a 6 point last year
Congrats on your buck. As you listen to Jeff and apply what you see in your world. the success won’t be any easier just more frequent success. Enjoy the journey. It’s wild.
I love the great resource you provided here. I have applied a lot of what you say to this year. We will see how it turns out. I am dissatisfied with the communication for your company. Have been trying to get a hold of someone for the past few weeks. Haven’t received any communication back.
Hi Nate! Diane handles all communication, I wish I had the time! Not really my area. BUT, I can say that we have been going thru some life changes and although no excuse...certain aspects of the business have been pushed aside due to priority.
Yep, I’ve always said the “lull” is mostly due to hunting pressure. I’ve also noticed in my many years of hunting in October where I live in Maryland/West Virginia area, is we almost always have a two week stretch of Indian Summer when the temperatures are greatly above normal. If I am a deer, that’s most likely shed its summer coat to winter coat, I’m moving only when necessary or in a tight area during the day. I’d be waiting for it to cool off at night. That, in combination with hunters in the woods is why there’s a perceived “lull”. And you’re absolutely right, Jeff. It usually does carry into the rut and late season. I witnessed it over and over for many years. Hard to get other hunters to understand that though. Great video Jeff!
Thank you Jeff now I fully understand the lull on deer hunting great information you the men. I’m learning so much from your videos. Just wish I could sign up for your web classes take care and keep up all the excellent work that you do 👍👍👍👍👍
Alright. Need some expert input here….. I’m in mid Michigan (just north of Lansing)My buddy is going to come out and bow hunt a long weekend. It’s either Oct 21-25 or Nov 4-8… What would you hunt? I think the pre rut hunt might be better. I’m afraid the big bucks will be locked on hot does for those early Nov dates. I think a lot of this depends on how fast the weather cools and pushes the rut up, or stays warm and pushes the rut back. Thoughts?
You are right about older bucks being more aware and sensitive to pressure. I stoped my white work van on side of a busy rd to glass a large been field and saw 3 doe and a well altered deer about 700 yards away .the doe didn't care but that buck had his head up looking right at me for about 45 seconds to a minute then tured and disappeared into the woods. I went to another field to look for deer At first I saw only doe then a buck appeared just at edge of the field.when I got within 400 yards he turned and vanished.the 6 does looked at my van but stayed there. Until learning from and listening to you on this subject I never put it all together about the lull and pressure.those older deer are smart to say the least! Thanks WHS
Last year I put a trail cam On a tree about deer height, had a huge 12 point walk up and look at the camera and smile. Never saw him again, this year my cameras are at least 6-7feet high and most are 10’ or higher. I ain’t having that happen ever again... I also moved my tree stand and made it a ton more camoflauge, a ladder stand sticking out into a deer trail is the worst way to run off mature bucks.
Went too put some more rye out on my plots. Had a mommy and her two babies eating on it. Waiting for the action too pick up. No hunting on it till I start seeing several bucks. They haven't shown up yet but the time is getting right. Cool weather has shown up
Completely agree with your assertion. I killed a lot of big bucks in my part of GA only hunting certain stands with the conditions are primo. I learned hunting crowded hunting clubs at a young age how pressure can adversely effect deer movement
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 I have been using your strategies since last few years and man IT WORKS!!! shot my biggest buck last year in pa score was 140 in.waiting for mount to be done.thanks for all!!
I have a question. I hunt on a very small parcel of land, about 5 acres big. I’m not getting pictures on my trail cam of any bucks. I’ve only seen 2 bucks so far, a small 7 point and a spike. All i see is does and fawns constantly? Will this change as we progress into fall?
I’m hunting two VERY small properties (5-10 acres). I’m still seeing does but the bucks have vanished. Does harvesting early season does reduce chances for big bucks in the rut?
I don't agree with everything you say. Generally there is always something in each video I disagree with. HOWEVER, I send my close friends to this channel when they refuse to listen to me. This is all common knowledge to me... but common knowledge isn't all that common. Glad to see your keeping up with making videos and chasing your dreams.
We already have the lull here two weeks into bow season NH. I skipped my private lot and hunted public on bad percentage days and it bit me bad. Both days my cell cams went off with big 8ptrs cruising and feeding in shooting light. Now im just torn on missing hunting my travel corridors on private land
Hey Jeff big fan , I have a problem with to many does, my property consists of a 50 acredit field next to the road with another 50 acre's of thick woods behind the field. The neighbor across the road has 60 acres of property which has a 2 acre field along the road as well. He has a big Texas feeder in his woods and is anti hunter. In the evening the deer hit his feeder then go to his small field by the time the buck cross the road and make there way across my field to the food plot which is an acre of corn, a acre of turnips, and an acre of rye it is way to dark . When I drive to the plot early in the evening once a week to pull camera cards there is 25 plus doe and fawns hamming the plot over browse, I counted 32 one night , there not even scared either don't run just look at me and go back to eating , what's your take on this
Go hunt public land on the bad days and leave your own land for the best days. If you can’t stand yourself and you have to hunt at least this way you wouldn’t ruin your own property
I didn’t really start working on my plot until later in the summer plan on really getting it done and cleaned up next spring and summer. What are your best suggestions for fall food in north central WV?
I'm hoping this year will turn something up for me. I found a clear cut area on google last night that I'm going to go check out today. It's on public land, but only about 500-600ft from a vineyard. Fingers crossed I do better this year than last!
Great video! What's your advice on choosing which does to kill. Ive had the same group of doe's on my 40 acre parcel. Should I be focused on the older or younger ones?
Jeff i wonder if you keep a log or a hunting Diary to keep track of what happened and why,and if you do what information do you include? Good topic once again.
Another great video Jeff. You have mentioned in the past that with the right setup, when you shoot a buck another slides into the slot that they had in the habitat. Do does do the same?
Great Video. Do you know what i should do Jeff. I hunt on 10 acres 70% of that is open and none of the deer come out. The other thrity percent of the property is thick cover but the deer arent consistent. If you we're in this situation what would you do?
Man, Noah so many variables to consider...even your own personal resources, neighbors, food sources, access, soil, region...thick cover and good food is a hard combo to beat!
Great video and the Lull is in effect in GA.
I notice it starts after first week of bow season Oct 1
Another excellent video! It's soooo true. Pressure, pressure, pressure.

Pennsylvania creates this lull by not allowing stands to be out until two weeks before season on state ground. I don't know how other states do this.
Our season just started this past Saturday and the bucks are already nocturnal only 3 days in and we are having the issue

What about the Detroit Lions "lull"?
