Kika’s wedding dress video got me into knitting too! Love her and her designs. Also I’m on my last sleeve for the Salty Days sweater. I think this might be the fastest sweater I’ve ever knit, fueled 100% by how excited I am to wear it this Autumn lol
that’s so amazing that she inspired both of us! its such a fun quick knit, I have had to actively slow myself down on the Salty Days so I didn’t zip through it since the KAL is supposed to be going for a while!😂🤍🐚
I'm so obsessed with your color choices, this is literally the palette that I want to live in LOL. I can also attest that once you get into colorwork it's so easy to get OBSESSED with it, I'm currently knitting thepetiteknitter's siksik sweater for my boyfriend 🥰
My Salty Days sweater is in time out. She’s fine-I just needed a break after ripping back a few times. I’m working on some easy fingerless gloves since we’re heading into fall. Agh that is awesome about Kutovakika following you and shouting out the KAL! What a compliment. You and Hayley have me so inspired to start up knitting podcasting/vlogging again now that I am in a different part of my knitting journey than I was before. ❤ Also…as far as reading while knitting…i listen to an audio book. But usually I watch TH-cam, either a knitting podcast or true crime haha.
that’s totally valid!! I have been taking breaks from it too, the body rows are so long and I want to enjoy it not rush it! I know, it was suuuch an honor! I am so glad we’ve inspired you. I also like to watch true crime sometimes when I’m in the right headspace. my favorite is Kendall Rae!
I had the same issue with purling! It caused me such severe wrist pain. I practiced purling being very conscious of not using my thumb/catching the yarn only with the needle. The pain is completely gone and the stitches actually look more even. I definitely recommend spending some time being really conscious of how you purl and working slowly, it is so worth it in the long run
wow thank you so much for sharing your shared experience and how you fixed it, this is sooo encouraging! I am trying to be more conscious of it but maybe I should really do some practices swatches to get more used to it and retrain my muscle memory!
@@morganunraveled it was definitely a slog when I was doing it because it was just purling for what felt like several years (I did a solid 10inch swatch of just purling). But it has honestly saved my knitting life
11:37 i struggled with this too, what helped me was giving the yarn a wrap around my pinkie before holding it as usual (as a continental knitter) it has made a world of difference! My hands don’t hurt so badly and my tension is sooo much smoother!
I try to!! I feel like no matter how I wrap it on my pinkie I lose that tension, the yarn finds a gap in my fingers unless I’m actively clamping my pinkie and ring finger together. it’s wild! & not comfy! 😂
@@morganunraveled yeah it’s definitely felt stupid and impractical for a while!😂 Thankfully though i inherited some of my moms stubbornness and now it feels so natural that i catch myself trying to do it when casting on stitches!😂 But tips aren’t “One size fits all” (ironically just like the so said one size fits all clothing…) so what works for one doesn’t work for everyone…
My mindless knit is another Musselburgh hat and my main mindful knit is my Lento sweater. I also bought those Barber cords so I could try on my sweater. It's my first ever sweater and it fits perfectly.
speaking on the wrist pain during purling-i suffered the same thing. depending on if you knit english or continental, check out the norwegian purl! my hands don’t bother me anymore unless i’m doing a LONG knitting session.
Hi Morgan, congratulations on all the new follows, it is so well-deserved! Your podcast is such a cozy treat! I am so enamored by your cabled sweaters, but so intimidated by cables! I am also very eager to hear about how steeking goes for you! Right now I’m trying to finish up my WIPs before I dig into a new sweater. My comfort project for mindless knitting is always Purl SoHo’s half and half triable wrap.
Hi! If you do want to use swivel cables I recommend the ones by Knitpro. They are also interchangeable with Lykke! I have the same problem with the Lykke cables, so I use my Knitpro cables while knitting with my Lykke needles!
I’m knitting the September colorwork cuff clubs socks. I plan to do both. I have never done an afterthought heel and am looking forward to that. I will have to modify to fit my high arch.
I’ve seen people knit really cool socks with the september socks, they just aren’t my vibe!! I hope you enjoy the process, I haven’t done an afterthought heel yet either!
I’m knitting the August colourwork cuff club and it’s also my first colourwork sock. I love your projects! I used to crochet more but so much into knitting now.
Have you tried going up a needle size for your colorwork? You can then return to the suggested needle size after you complete the colorwork. Good luck! 😊🧶
thank you for the tip!! I am doing that on my Lumme but I did not on the colorwork socks because I only have 2.5mm sock needles, I don’t have 2.75 or 3mm yet!
7:57 knitting at a tighter gauge can help, but really it depends on the fiber content and how much twist was spun into the yarn that will determine how much the FO will pill. I had a lot of pilling when i used wool of the Andes for my first sweater (knit at a larger gauge) but because I paired it with a new mohair too, I wasn’t sure which was the main culprit!😂
hmm thats interesting, seems like it may be a WoTA or highland wool problem - I absolutely love the yarn though so I hope that’s not the case. it has amazing stitch definition but is also still soft & drapey. I have a friend that knit with a different highland wool and had the same issue so it may be the fiber.
I have tried it but I don’t feel like it was right for me. it just was extra movements on my other wrist! I think I just need to be more conscious about not using my finger to wrap tbh!
thank you! I’m quite proud so far and it’s a good beginner project. I wouldn’t be mad if I made mistakes on this one like I would if it was the porcelain since I’ve invested so much in that yarn! 😅
A wonderful episode Morgan and I love the name change, it’s perfect! I’ve been knitting on my salty days over the weekend I am loving it! I am keen to knit the Bookclub Cardigan too and will keep the yardage issues in mind. I just need to finish some wips before casting on another garment! I have three active ones on the needles now, plus a languishing one 😇
thank you sooo much! I hope you are enjoying your wips! I love to have a few garments of different varieties on the go so I have one for any mood I’m in. definitely makes them take longer individually but I enjoy the process more. as you can see I have the salty with lace etc, a colorwork, and a stockinette 😂
That was lovely! Thank you! I want to cast on for the Book Club Cardigan. I am the opposite of you in that I’m more intimidated by cables than color work. I am currently working on the Shifty sweater by Andrea Mowry and just started The Comfort of Crows book by Margaret Renkl. Thanks for all your inspiration!
if you can manage multiple strands of yarn then I promise you can cross stitches over one another! it may be overwhelming at first and a lot to learn but once it clicks you’ll be knitting all the cables 🥰✨
My first colourwork pullover is blocking right now! I feel like colourwork definitely takes some focus, but it also looks more impressive and intimidating than it actually is once you get the hang of it. Finished my silverlining sweater yesterday and started on Hunt Hand Knits' Owl Nouveau cowl (so... from one complex colourwork to another lol) which will be a Christmas present
I loved divine rivals! I’m sooo excited for my knit picks interchangeable to get here. I’m still working on my Monday sweater by petite knits. I read physical books, my kindle and audio books while knitting. Book weights or a book bean bag are great for physical books. I’d like to buy a kindle stand..
I had a lot of wrist pain when purling as well and recently discovered combination knitting. It has been a game changer for my wrist, highly recommend checking it out!
Loved this episode! I watched while finishing the toe on my second August colorwork club sock 😊 I really appreciate the info on yardage for the Book Club Cardigan! I want to cast on soon but was hearing the yardage was super off and plan to knit the same size you did. Hope I have enough! 😅
Your salty days sweater looks sooo good! The color is perfect 😭 I’m going to knit that after knitting my arctic light sweater also by Kika🫶(I’m still working on the yoke)Love your videos 🩷
Great video as always! I prefer to audiobook and knit, but if it’s a super basic pattern, I do read a physical book propped up on a book pillow or my kindle (getting the remote control page flipper was a game changer there!) I was working on the hem of my August vest test knit for oops and loops while watching!
that’s so awesome! I’ve been thinking of getting a stand for my kindle so that I could try knitting & reading but it seems more stressful than relaxing 😂 I do love an audiobook x knitting sesh though 🎧
Love your FO's they look fantastic! I am currently trying to finish the Uraldia Shawl by the Sweater Collective. It's a bit of a brain teaser for me but well worth the time. I have delved into sock knitting but have been dettered as my first sock did not fit me at all but i am working on my first cardigan and I've just finished my gauge swatch. I hope you and your family have a lovely day/week. - Ranjita aka chocolatesandpasta
I had sizing issues the first couple socks too, it really is trial and error but can be so discouraging. Nimble Needles sock knitting video helped me a lot, he even shows how to do the math to find your correct cast on count. just note that in order to get the correct number I measured around the widest part at the base of my toes rather than around my heel like he does!
ahh thank you, so fun!! I wanted to love the 9in circulars but I feel like I have started to opt for magic loop again. let me know how it turns out for you!🫶🏻
If you want to try swivel cords that don’t catch, the Lantern Moon cords are also interchangeable with KnitPicks and I’ve never had an issue with any of them catching
I loveee that you’re watching while knitting the Salty!! 🐚✨ hehe yes I had so much cast on energy while waiting for the Salty days KAL that I just cast it on, obsessed over it until sep1 then put it down and never shared 😂
My Salty Days is being naughty so I will probably take a wee break from for a day. I have frooooooged Chart B for the third time now and just got done picking up the stitches... again. Nothing to do with the pattern or difficulty but everything to do with my pea sized attention span. 😅 I typically like to watch knitting podcasts or true crime/paranormal stuff, depending on my mood. Sometime I alternate!

I might leave a comment on the ravelry project because I feel so bad for all the people who will also run into the same problem! Paying for shipping twice is such a waste of money
I know, it’s super frustrating. it happened to me too. I did make a note on my project and many others have as well. I hope she updates the yardage on it soon to correctly reflect the yarn usage!
knit what you want, when you want! don’t force it or it’s not enjoyable, and hobbies aren’t meant to feel like a chore. rotate between projects if that motivates you more or set smaller, realistic goals to keep yourself accountable and feel more manageable - instead of “I need to finish this project already!!” try “I will finish this sleeve by a certain day”!
thankfully none so far! even though this is my second time doing lace it’s really well written, so it’s been quite a breeze to follow! and the group has been really helpful for people who got stuck or lost count on their lace patterns etc but thankfully I haven’t had any major issues. I think peoples biggest issue is round 5 of chart c which is tricky but you just have to remove the stitch marker & pass the last stitch over the first!
