Omg this was the signature of a friend of a friend who I’d bump into late at night in SoHo on her way to another bougie club. She always had older boyfriends and would go to Nobu and whatnot. It was 2002/2003. She was tall, buxom blonde and I remember she smelled really nice (albeit strong) so I asked her what she was wearing. She pulled a full size bottle of Addict out of her handbag and said “it’s Addict! I LOVE it!!” And proceeded to do like 4 sprays lol it was awesome and I always thought of that moment fondly. It was so “her”.
Thumbs up from a Slavic country ❤, oh, and your English is one Music for my ears, think I will keep on improving it by watching and listening to your videos 🙏🤗👍, oh, and you are charismatic allright:) , with humour and all, keep it up👍👌
addict is my indispensable fragrance... I finished 3 big bottles (2014 and later updated version). I have 2 unopened spares in my closet. yes, it's a reformulated fragrance, the old 2002 version, a vanilla that feels much more spicy and much greener. The current version is a fragrance in which green and white flowers are felt more at the opening. but still retains its spice and milky lactonic ability. After the liquid in the bottle comes into contact with oxygen, it thickens and hardens as it waits. Please let it rest by spraying 1 spray and leave it for a while. the current version is still strong, still dark and spicy, please don't be unfair. Even though we are not what we were 15 years ago... a wonderful perfume that has not lost its identity despite the change in its formula and that I will never let go. To summarize, it is a magnificent liquid that is more balanced with the current addict spices with white flowers and the green nuances are shorter but never loses its old self
The comparison to a drag queen is so perfect for Dior Addict. It's a fabulously over-the-top floriental with zero concessions to good taste. Like you, I've always enjoyed it, but felt somewhat guilty about it given how many prolific fragrance snobs have poo-poo'd it over the years. It's pure fun, and weirdly perfect on a sultry summer night. The green opening and smokiness set it apart from typical mainstream vanilla perfumes.
That’s exactly how I wore it! I was in my early 20s when this came out. The first big perfume I liked. I wore it out to wild parties in high heels with the Dior addict lipstick which was red a shiny and very 70s disco. Fun times. I think I’ll buy myself a new bottle
I have the 2 older bottles and just ordered the new version a few days ago Really can’t wait to try it and see the difference Dark mysterious scent loved it from the very first bottle I purchased in 2002 So excited thank you so much for sharing your thoughts ❤
I wish you had an original formulation to smell side by side. I had originally smelled Dior Addict years and years ago, when young and with a very limited budget and dreamed of owning it. When I was ready to purchase it, I found myself confused that it didn't sit well with me anymore. For nearly a decade, I kept trying it in the store anyway, never buying a full bottle. One day a friend laid a bag of bottles at my feet, and I found Dior Addict. I fell head over heels, still confused as to why it resonated with me so strongly again. I researched the bottle and found it to be a 2002 Thierry Wasser original. Now being a full on Guerlain girl, the puzzle pieces fell together. To me, the 2002 Thierry Wasser version is enchanting and compelling, where subsequent versions I find oppressive on my person. I'm not usually one to go on about reformulations, but once in a while I find they matter.
Great review! Dior addict is in my top 3! I think it´s very feminine and pleasing. And it is still so modern but different enough. I could use it as an everyday-scent. Thanks for making the video! ❤❤❤
I found an original bottle of Addict in the holographic box on a perfume safari. I can't compare it to the current formulation but it is a green woody vanilla. Maybe I'm just miserly but it doesn't last forever on my skin.
I Never thought Addict was a scent that would suit me...out of what i had heard about it,too strong, too heavy etc...but,but but it happend that i recieve it as a gift and ohh dear god,i was blown away!! In the good way❤ i absolutely love it and i enjoy so much wear it,soo happy for it,such a lovely, lovely scent💜🖤💜🖤
This came up as a suggestion! How timely… I have just picked up a bottle from 2003. To me, it’s all about the Queen of the Night flower and tonka and sandalwood. How I wish I could send you a decant! But it costs silly amounts to ship to the UK from SL. I’ve Queen of the Nights growing wild in my parents home. It’s something my mum and I used to set an alarm, roughly around 1 am, to wake up and admire. It’s a very rich scent, unlike most flowers. Not unlike Jasmine, but imagine 10x more potent. You have got to get your hands on both, queen of the night flowers and an original formulation of Addict!
It was my favourite evening scent when I was in my 20's. It used to be really strong and slightly smoky and 1 spray was all I needed. I still wear it in now in my 40's and I still like it but it isn't as intense as it used to be. I do love the blue glass bottle though.
Love love love your drag queen analogy 😍 And more importantly the joie de vivre aspect Grab life by the balls fragrance!! I used to wear DA and want to venture back to it!
Love love love the comparaison with Dune ! I was like yes this is exactly that feeling from melancholia to high expression of bombastic ! But there is absolutely a bridge between them ..don’t know what accord is responsable (I thought about drake Queen too for the addict one last time I smelled it at the airport ) For me it’s a very good one but go slowly as it can have very easily redondance or headaches … thank you for this video
In 2008, I visited a dept store to buy 1st ‘I’m an adult now’ perfume to celebrate new job. Had soft spot for Dior. Wore og Poison in high school. (A shy wallflower, I let my fragrance do the talking… or shouting. 🙂) Chose Addict edp over Midnight Poison at dept store. Wasn’t yet ready for rose/patch/vanilla combo of MP. Couple years later, sold my Addict. Impulsive decisions of youth. 🙄Decade+ later, I tracked down & own ‘08 bottles of Midnight Poison & Addict, & a 2014 Addict. To me, the latter is improved over 2012 edition. I smelled ‘12 version in store that yr & remember being shocked at how sheer, thin it was. 2014 version takes me right back to the scent I inhaled on the day I made my 1st ‘I have a real job’ purchase. Wonderful video, insightful, thoughtful as always. Thank you, Persolaise. ❤
Wow Addict was also my "I'm an adult now" milestone fragrance. I first smelled it while I was still in grad school, but told myself "you can't wear this until you start making your own money" 😂 It's amusing to see other people had this impression they had to achieve an independence or maturity to earn the privilege of wearing it 💪
I have one bottle from the first year, personal I had a time to learn to love it, I was going to give up the bottle but I use it one day in the morning and my husband arrived ti the house and he say that perfume is really beautiful I like it, so fir my my best compliment is the one that comes from my husband, know is in the shelf of my husband and my kids👍🏻👍🏻 Know I think is a beauty 🤍
I fell in love so hard for the reformulation, I had to get my hands on the original. I adore, and yes it's very similar. The bigness, the loudness of it all... a haughty vintage dream.
This was my signature scent. I replaced Dune with this one. I'm so glad you made the comparison, I call it my 'cold Dune'. I still wear it and can confirm I'm a middle aged uk woman, not a drag queen. 😂 I think I've had more compliments on this than anything, maybe because I never come across anyone else wearing it. In terms of reformulation, the original with the gold cap was followed by a mehhh reformulation with the silver. I stopped wearing it until it was reformulated again into the current EDP which is pretty much how it was originally.
I thought I was going crazy when I smelled the current Addict, and felt it was a significant improvement over the version I smelled 10 years ago, which was like Addict made out of plastic. Glad someone else thinks the new stuff is more similar to the original formula. Sometimes reformulations can be improved. They've improved Fahrenheit, too, over the stuff I bought in 2010.
@@darryl2542 not crazy. I remember now that a review by Super Dacob popped up on my recommended videos, probably due to me googling trying to find an old bottle. That's what made me test it again. I watched it again recently and according to him Demachy ruined it in 2012 and 2014 was when it was put back to something of it's former self. So anything 2014 on (or pre 2012) should be OK. Edit to add: the Super Dacob video is from 7ys ago if anyone is interested.
Great review of the "new" Addict. From Guerain?! 😂You ment Dior, I'm sure. I wore this to work, as a flightattendant back in 2004 😵Probably too much. But I loved it!!! And I still have it!!! The first version has more sandalwood and tonkabean for sure. Very woody and spicy-vanilla. But also has a green moist note of oakmoss. Lasts for 24 hours, with the basenotes that lingers longer than any other woody/spicy. It only becomes more green and amber/woody. Florals here are blended to perfection and barely there at all. Not like the the new one that is white floral. Still very feminine fragrance, mostly due to memories, but a man can certainly pull this off for sure!!!
Perhaps it is not for everyone..however; I think it smells fabolous, loud feminine glamorous!! I absolutely love it! One of my favorite fragrances I owned.
That used to be a fantastic scent. A friend of mine used to wear this back in 2005-2006 and it was lovely! Significant amount of vanilla but the citruses gave an airy light elegant touch. Got that couple of years ago just to find out that it turned to a strong artificial vanilla with lots of jasmine and woods "how sexy is that?" scent. Not exactly an Audrey Herborn vibe 🤣 . Very disappointing.. I mean it does not smell like play doh but still 😉 What is interesting is that I got last summer, the Shalimar souffle de parfum, as I saw online that it was closer to the original addict and I liked it very much. Bottomline: Dior needs to stop messing with their perfumes...
Underrated beauty from Guerlain at 12:19?!?! Mr. P you‘re really Guerlain fanboy! 😊 House of Dior is one that I’m struggling with. I love their classic ones Diorissimo, Diorella, Miss Dior Originale, etc. But I think Dior Addict stopped me from exploring further. The smell of greenery and vanilla made me retreat.

First tried it as a teen (and yes, in a Slavic country) and loved it.
I still think it's one of the best on the market. Very, very feminine.
This Slavic link is fascinating.
