This is such a good practical video. A lot of young artists don't realize how planning/organizing actually gives them more freedom then it takes away. I'm still learning to balance things myself but heres to 2017 being the year of getting organized! Someone that talks about getting organized is Bobby Chiu on youtube. His little plant people videos are so great. In one video he talked about how you gotta start slow to make things into habits. So doing things for just 30 minutes maybe 2 times a week helps you build momentum. You get used to 30 minutes 2 times a week so you then add 30 minutes 5 times a week. And then it becomes an hour and then two hours. So to other people who are afraid they cant complete a year long plan, it's okay! Start small, build habits, then expand on them.

I remember watching this video years ago and trying it out, now in 2024 every time i get inspired to really grind and plan out how to accomplish my goals (art or non) I think about this method! Such an interesting way to divide everything up and have a visual graph rather than just writing- still loving it years later!

Ah thanks so much for this video! I've watched so many vids about goals (not necessarily art) and had meetings in school about them, but they never really worked. 7:30 I think a good observation for this is that, during your free time, you should try to do more art while doing other things you enjoy. I.E. Music, textchannels, and podcasts. Drink some of your favorite beverage if possible, and just enjoy yourself.
My biggest concern right now is whether to go back to college or not. I have dropped out more than two semesters. I also struggle with which art style I should work towards, realism like oil painting and acrylics or go for animation and comics. I love them all. Your videos are always informative and amazing btw!

I am a self- proclaimed artist, I graduated in college already but I don't study arts, like I don't have formal art study? I want to become an artist, I want to become an illustrator or something. But I don't really know what to include in my portfolio? I draw portraits using watercolor but I don't know if that will give me an illustration job. I thought I have to draw in more cartoon-ish style, I've tried drawing in cartoon style but I don't know how to really find or get or have an original style, like I don't feel original with the cartoonish drawing that I made, and I feel overwhelmed with a lot of great artist in the internet and I am thinking I want her style and her's and her's? what should I do? I really want to become an artist/ illustrator professionally. Copy someone elses artwork there is no shame in it as long as you don't claim its your own. That is how the masters used to teach. They'd get a class to copy a painting they had done, by copying you learn the techniques to apply to you own work later. Its a key part of any school/college course too. You need to do Artist Copies for each project because it works. I tell you Raphael has taught thousands from beyond the grave. One thing I've just done personally is do realistic interpretations of animated characters. Not talking adventure time here but if you are used to anime and mange or more traditional proportional animation that is a great way to work. Because its applying what you are used to to something you want to learn.

Okay admittedly I'm not that cool and this is NOT my original idea. I found this deeeeep in the trenches of the bullet journal community and I felt like it'd be the perfect technique for setting artistic goals. Love that it's visual too
