    people like you on youtube make me rethink paying thousands of dollars for classes at a 4 year University. You made something I had no grasp of extremely understandable in a fraction of the time I've spent on our course textbook software and online lecture tools. Thank you so much.

    My god, the man fixed those percentage errors last minute! Props to those catches! Great video! (For any of those confused about what I'm referring to: he wrote 45/1000 = 4.5%. In fact it equals 0.045%.)

    • @daajjj
      @daajjj  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A little basic math: 45/1000 IS 4.5% (This is 4.5/100 which is 4.5%!!! Per cent is parts per 100. 4.5% = 0.045)

    Thank you so much for your video! This makes sense now! One question: how do we determine gene order if no double crossover event occurs?

    • @daajjj
      @daajjj  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All you have to do is determine what the double crossover would be (if they had occurred). You will have two possible arrangements with 0 individuals, so those are the double crossover. If someone listed for you all of the offspring of a 3-pt. test cross and there were no double crossover, then you just figure out which two classes of individual are missing. They are the double crossover. Does that make sense?

    instead of looking for a double cross over in order to order the genes,could it still be accurate to use the distance between genes,and the gene intermediate between two other genes be the one in the middle?

    • @daajjj
      @daajjj  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but this is simpler and quicker.

  • @konbal8
    @konbal8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    great work sir i just have one question, is there any way that the number of the offsprings with parental phenotypes would be lower than the number of recombinant ones or we should always the highest numbers as parental?

    • @daajjj
      @daajjj  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is there any way? Yes. Doing recombination mapping, like the 3-point test cross, assumes that all of the phenotypes are equally viable. But, if one of the parental phenotypes had a lower viability due to its combination of genes, then it is very possible that there would be fewer parental individuals in that class than in one of the recombinant combinations. In that case, the three point test cross would give you erroneous results and your maps would be incorrect. However, you might be able to figure this out and make a corrections. For example, if the a b c individual were less viable (therefore many died), it is very possible that the A B C individual would be healthy and have plenty of offsprings. If there is no viability problem, then the proportion of a b c and A B C should be approximately the same. If you see that one of these reciprocal classes (like a b c) has way too few individuals, you could "correct" that number to be the same as the other class (like A B C) and do the calculations from there. Good question.
