If Adam is an Alternate without even knowing it, then maybe Alternates are not evil by nature but rather a differing race to humans. It seems like the stranger is trying to help Adam realize who he really is (he might be his father, judging by the dialogue.)
If the stranger is his father, then he would probably represent alternate "God" because in the Bible Adam was basically the son of God, and Jonah (Adam's friend in Mandela catalogue) tried to flee from God but was captured.

Mark, David, Jonah, Sarah, Adam, Evelin, Ruth are all biblical. Come to think of it, the only NON-biblical names in the entire series have been Thatcher, Stanley, Cesar and O'Brien, 2 of which are now dead/replaced, Stanley being a fictional name or Alias for another alternate. Interesting.
@@enthusiasticfungus7589 meh, meh. Caesar was not really a name, not the way we understand it. It was a "cognomen" for Caius Iulius and later, after his rise to power and death became a title, at the time of Christs life and during the writing of the Bible being understood as such. That same passage is commonly translated as "give unto the emperor what belongs to the emperor" in other translations, and the emperor at the time of Christs death was Tiberius. Could be, of course, but its not a biblical name in the traditional sense.
If I'm not mistaken, his last name Davis is just a letter off from David, tying him to the David & Goliath theme as well. In fact, Thatcher fits the bill closer than Dave did, because while both had an encounter with powerful alternates and defied them, Thatcher was able to survive his encounter, however scarred it left him, which is no small feat against the alternates.
Adam is the first alternate to be born in the world rather than be transported to it through video, mirrors, etc. Thats why when he was a toddler he didn't respond to the test and why he always felt as if his skin was not his own. He grew up never knowing that he was not human

I assume the reason isn't death itself when it comes to why alternates kill people. If they're something remotely close to devils/demons, the reason would most likely be inciting fear THROUGH death. The direct death of humans would have no benefit for them, but it might be pleasurable for them to see humans in deep distress and fear, and that's the most probable reason imo.
To add on to your theory, when David was at the church there was a restricted sign on the church’s fence. so maybe that specific church is where Gabriel has the most power over where he can speak to people and kill them off.
I'm guessing that Thatcher was subjected to an earlier episode of that friend video and thus MAD but somehow resisted it and created the funny television guy from that concept who spoke to him again using the same video that we get to see. Also, him being called an intruder is a direct opposite to a friend - someone who isn't invited in and unwanted compared to someone who is. Maybe the "friend creation" for him actually went wrong due to Thatcher's reversal, making the intruder different/wanting to help him. Alternatively, could be that the "reversal" is about emotions and that originally, a copy of the person is created with all their personality and emotions but that is removed and put onto the one affected by MAD, with the reversal stopping this or at least limiting it. This could explain why present day Thatcher is having hallucinations about Alternates or the dead because the emotions that he feels are always heightened because of what was previously said.
How does anybody go through that thing, there's no panels it's all just text. It's such a shame since it has so much wicked imagery, but they REFUSE to show you ANY of it. What, am I supposed to IMAGINE Jesus kissing Judas? 😞

Fun fact: Alex was inspired by sin city for the live action scenes in tmc vol 4, and it really shows once you see a clip of sin city next to a live action scene in vol 4
Most terrifying shit ever in my opinion is literally the scene where there is some looking at you while sleeping smiling at you. And they dont do anything they just make their presence known
Pretty sure Adam is an alternate that grew up as a human, and is now being contacted or "woken up" by the stranger. Would explain his obsession with alternates and the stranger telling Adam "You're skin is not your own, you're not the real you." This is further supported by the stranger talking about the night Adam was taken from his mother and describing taking the baby from the crib. Could also be that the 3% of people that survived MAD were all just humans replaced by alternates, and Adam is one of them. So potentially could be many more humans who are actually alternates and don't know it. Would also explain why the voice in volume 2 told Adam "Don't make me wake the others."
The police station with the hand was an alternate all the way back in one, it said that alternates can be exact copies or slight changes. Including the look of no face skin. Just like her
1:02 the reason why he said spirit, rather than G-d or anything else, is because it was paraphrasing Genesis 1:2, where the word "spirit" (it can also mean "wind") is used. It's a very ambiguous verse and what it means has been up for debate. However, it is possible that he kept it in "spirit" as a means of applying the ambiguity as to who the spirit was
@@oksry7637 yes, it's a religious thing. From wiktionary: "Deuteronomy 12:3-4 states “ye shall destroy [pagan gods’] name out of that place. Ye shall not do so unto the L-rd your G-d.” Rabbis deduced from this that it was forbidden to erase the name of G-d from a written document. Since any paper upon which G-d’s name was written might be discarded and thus “erased”, the rabbis forbade explicitly writing the name of G-d, except in Holy Books, with provisions for the proper disposal of such books." The same applies for the Internet.
I like that this makes me feel uneasy even while watching along with someone. Welp, gotta go watch some family guy or something now to be able to sleep tonight, thanks Alex!
Shout out Thatcher, aka Thorne Baker, aka Teenage Disaster, his music and art is awesome and his art was used in the Mandela Catalogue and he deserves more love

"You never say fuck off to the internet stranger" This is true. I did this to a college recruiter email that I thought was a bot email and I thought nobody would see it, I was dead wrong. The guy saw it and called my high school who called my parents. I was grounded but when I got a text from my mom where she was furious at me, I think that was the moment of purest fear I've ever had
I think Pyro has most of the lore pretty spot on, I think personally that Adam's intruder is just our version of god that we know that's found a way to free himself but has to hide from Gabriel since he does not match Gabriel in power. This would also make sense for the story we know of Adam and Eve where Adam was the one who did not want to eat the apple showing that this future version of Adam will not fall for Gabriel's deception as the original Adam did because he is being guided by the true God.
I wish the alternates resembled the way the looked in vol1. These 3d models just really aren't as scary or unnerving as the original alternates looked, they had these unnerving "shadow man" look to them. Now that we know what they look like a lot of Mandela isn't very scary anymore since we lose that unpredictability that they had
I get what you mean and kinda agree, but if Alex was to just make them these obscure things like they were before, it’d be a lot more difficult to make the story how it is and to expand upon it just barely showing these creatures and having them be like still images all the time.
@@xmsjd yeah I agree, it seemed kind of unavoidable tbh. If he kept that design from vol1 it wouldn't have developed into what is is now, but since he did it's far less scary as a result, he didn't really have a choice it seemed like
don't forget gabriel with his "cartoon villain from 90's tv show" dialogue. honestly, a lot in the new volume was a letdown for me. I know that this project is made by one guy with a vodka bottle budget, but volume 3 was so mush better while being much more simple (less 3d, less cringy live-action with sims 2 tier backgrounds, etc)
@@russian_knight yeah. I’m pretty sure his goal is to lead The Mandela Catalogue out of the Analogue Horror genre and make it more of a thriller series, with horror elements tied into it. That much is evident, especially with this volume and 333, so I feel like in that way it’s not gonna hit that audience the series initially created when it first started.
The alternate at the end of the video is the same guy who kidnapped the baby in the first episode and replaced the child with an alternate, it's alluded to with the hanging woman in the scene with the celebration of life video. The child is Adam
I think the tapes being mailed are themselves bait, like how the screams were used to bait Alternates, to bring people to Mandela to have Alternates impersonate them. Like a supernatural Anglerfish using an ARG as a lure.
I remember seeing a comment about how Gabriel saying "you have already done my bidding for me" could be relating to Dave being a technician, since the alternates are using technology to empower themselves. This kinda ties into that idea
"It is a program basically that wants to have everyone's face on a database so they're much easier to replace... people" [25:12] Disney : _"Write that down!!! Write that down!!!"_
I would probably run the program considering I did everything Stanley told me to the first time I watched vol. 333. (Close my eyes and imagine a friend) I’m not the brightest tbh.
I've seen an entry on r/nosleep (yes I know reddit ew whatever) titled "What if the devil's greatest trickery is making humanity believe that the Bible is the word of God" and I think that sentence alone perfectly fits the Mandela Catalogue.
Idk if this theory still carries but I think the one in the tv talks to children, making their best friends. Of course they don’t have the best memory of faces or certain parts of the mind contort images even if we don’t know it. While the ones who look more human are the ones on the internet using actual photos. A lot better, but still missing key details since they’re just photos
Glad you're covering this, I can't watch Wendigoon videos, after like the 900th time he said "whenever" in place of when he should say "when" I just couldn't concentrate one what he said anymore. Listening to "whenever" and needing to correct the sentence in my head always makes me miss a few words, sometimes he says something important immediately and that's just not an enjoyable way to consume content
My theory is that the light DOES protect you (said by intruder at 39:30) because Gabriel killed Dave (Rip Dave 29:10) when the sky turned black, Gabriel only showed up at the church when it got dark. (Shown at 27:49) I still like the theory that the intruder is a special alternate
That was an alternate. Alternates do not kill their victims. They commit psychological warfare. They made Weaver (commit die), but now they're trying to make Thatcher, but so far, he's been strong enough to withstand the torture.

exactly what I'm saying, it was shown at the beginning of the series that the alternates will attempt psychological warfare on their victims
Great video. This was my favorite part 40:56
To add on to your theory, when David was at the church there was a restricted sign on the church’s fence. so maybe that specific church is where Gabriel has the most power over where he can speak to people and kill them off.
I think dave gouged out his eyes?

I love how half of the plot in this volume is literally the alternates trying to dox people
Man after watching this series I decided to read the manga this was based off of. This jesus guy is pretty cool.
How does anybody go through that thing, there's no panels it's all just text. It's such a shame since it has so much wicked imagery, but they REFUSE to show you ANY of it. What, am I supposed to IMAGINE Jesus kissing Judas? 😞

However, it is possible that he kept it in "spirit" as a means of applying the ambiguity as to who the spirit was
Did you just censor God?
@@houledea1073 idk man youtubes up to some weird shit
@@oksry7637 yes, it's a religious thing. From wiktionary: "Deuteronomy 12:3-4 states “ye shall destroy [pagan gods’] name out of that place. Ye shall not do so unto the L-rd your G-d.” Rabbis deduced from this that it was forbidden to erase the name of G-d from a written document. Since any paper upon which G-d’s name was written might be discarded and thus “erased”, the rabbis forbade explicitly writing the name of G-d, except in Holy Books, with provisions for the proper disposal of such books." The same applies for the Internet.
@@houledea1073it’s an Old Testament rule that you cannot destroy God’s name or use it when you shouldn’t so some write G-d instead as a way to be safe

Well, yeah, he's the one who found his body
The police station exterior looks vaguely like a church building that I saw somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area a decade or two ago.
i think the way they don’t do jump scares makes it so much better
36:18 Dude, if there was a jumpscare around here, I actually would’ve lost it, for some reason, the picture moving while we can’t hear it freaks me out so much…
Crazy when Thatcher said, "EZ CLAP DUDE" after gambling 700k away on a red 1.
"You never say fuck off to the internet stranger"
This is true. I did this to a college recruiter email that I thought was a bot email and I thought nobody would see it, I was dead wrong. The guy saw it and called my high school who called my parents. I was grounded but when I got a text from my mom where she was furious at me, I think that was the moment of purest fear I've ever had
So guys, we did it, we ran the program.

At 30:19 I think Gabriel is thinking this is like a game and he basically trolling the how town or he just want people to suffer
"My friend died but I got some good footage out of it"
TH-camr mindset.

Half of the horror here is just english exam listening test voice quality.
The alternate at the end of the video is the same guy who kidnapped the baby in the first episode and replaced the child with an alternate, it's alluded to with the hanging woman in the scene with the celebration of life video. The child is Adam
Adam is an alternate,
“your skin is not your own.”
“You’re not the real you.”
Isn’t it possible that the stranger is just Adam’s alternate since the photos uploaded to the database have him in a hoodie just like the stranger?
I think the tapes being mailed are themselves bait, like how the screams were used to bait Alternates, to bring people to Mandela to have Alternates impersonate them.
Like a supernatural Anglerfish using an ARG as a lure.
I remember seeing a comment about how Gabriel saying "you have already done my bidding for me" could be relating to Dave being a technician, since the alternates are using technology to empower themselves. This kinda ties into that idea
0:45 TURN ON SILENT MODE
I miss old pyro where he only had 1 channel and played whitewoods beachwalk as his outro
The Gabriel church scene goes so hard, imagine seeing an alternate as an ANGEL Sprout wings instead of just appear and then drop down and hunt you

I've seen an entry on r/nosleep (yes I know reddit ew whatever) titled "What if the devil's greatest trickery is making humanity believe that the Bible is the word of God" and I think that sentence alone perfectly fits the Mandela Catalogue.
Can’t believe Pyro called out Adam being an alternate half was through.
Idk if this theory still carries but I think the one in the tv talks to children, making their best friends. Of course they don’t have the best memory of faces or certain parts of the mind contort images even if we don’t know it. As soon as the new mandela episode came out I already knew pyro was gonna watch it on stream
My theory is that the light DOES protect you (said by intruder at 39:30) because Gabriel killed Dave (Rip Dave 29:10) when the sky turned black, Gabriel only showed up at the church when it got dark. (Shown at 27:49)
I still like the theory that the intruder is a special alternate

That was an alternate. Alternates do not kill their victims. They commit psychological warfare. They made Weaver (commit die), but now they're trying to make Thatcher, but so far, he's been strong enough to withstand the torture.
