How are things over there as someone that lives on the ground over there in NYC? Is it bad as we see through Cash's investigate reporting or is it somewhat overexaggerated? Just curious since I'm observing all of this from DC which has a similar but way minor problem.
2,500 is the average rent right now
It's why everyone is leaving. In so many other states 1,600 can rent or buy a full house. Not just a room.

then you can't afford NYC. The problem here is the same everywhere: people don't act their wage
It's not just NYC, it's the whole United States.
My family and I live in a small town in southern Minnesota - population 2,000 including the cows and corn.
My husband and I are retired.
Unfortunately, we made some poor decisions with our money.
Long story short, 3 years ago, our son, his wife and now our grandbaby and us bought a house together.
All of us are owners.
The kids have the entire upstairs 3 bedrooms and a bath.
My husband and I have the downstairs bedroom, living room, dining room.
We share a common kitchen and laundry/bathroom.
We pay the utilities and 1/2 the mortgage. The kids pay the other 1/2 of the mortgage.
This arrangement isn't for everyone, but it works for us.
We paid $110,000 for the house.
In the 3 years we've been here, rent/mortgage has gone up. Right now, our home is worth $350,000.
Something needs to be done.
As a nation, there are more homeless people than ever, the cost of living is astronomical and none of this is sustainable.

Yeah, well, take some advice from an ex-New Yorker. I was evicted at the beginning of the pandemic when my job went bye-bye, but before the moratorium was in place. I was already living in an illegal apartment. I lived in my car for two months in the midst of the pandemic, so no showers at the gym, no bathroom, shelters? No way! I became nocturnal to keep my car and stay under the radar. Took cat naps by day in different places. I escaped by night on tertiary roads--remember when they were stopping people at state lines? The closest major city to me is now Quebec City but I’m in the USA. I’m a resident caretaker in a one room cabin at a rustic camp. I don’t pay rent; I maintain the premises, keep a register of hikers, canoers, hunters overnighting on the land, remotely monitor two wildlife cameras for a conservationist. Other than occasional tutoring, sewing repairs, making assorted crafts to sell in summer, I consider myself retired.
Thank you for sharing this, I would love to know more about how you came across something like this. NYC really isn't sustainable and I much prefer nature and simplicity. No need to provide exactly where you are, i dont want to invade your privacy. I would just like some info to point me in the direction of how i can find a similar situation. Thanks

Moral of the story: unless you absolutely have no other option, never depend on the government for anything.
ABSOLUTELY TRUE!!!!
When govt help is permanent, they can permanently control your life.

It sounds like a nightmare having to financially rely on roommates/strangers. Why would anyone want to have this precarious situation?
A lot of people, just starting out in life, do that. Then too, many people don't like to live alone. When I was getting my doctorate, all my peers had roommates. Yes, roommates come with risks. I don't think anyone wants to live with roommates, but if you're just starting out in life, unless you're rich, it's pretty normal to get a room in a shared apartment or house. I can tell you from personal experience, the lack of privacy as well depending on others to do their part is a nightmare. I actually lost friends over it. I'm glad I got the experience though because now, the only roommates I will ever have again is my wife and kids.

Gentrification has some studios in Boston at about $2000, thats what the average 1 bedroom used to be, and considering the inflation thing....
It's really mind blowing to me that people in NYC pay thousands a month to live in apartments that look like walk-in closets. I live in Upstate NY (in a tiny home btw) and some of those places are smaller than my laundry room. WOW
Maybe they like culture and people and don't like living in the sticks. You didn't think of THAT?!? 😦😧😦
Central NY here and came to say the same thing! I pay 900 a month for a mortgage and these peoples walk in closet apts go for over 2500?! wtf
@@Soule6 don’t be so quick to think you know what’s going on. Upstate NY and the rest has just as much culture as NYC. I live in CNY and have been to NYC many times. No difference except the amount of people. Also, everywhere outside of NYC isn’t the “sticks” you sound sheltered
@@Soule6 I want to copy and paste your reply to every one of these ridiculous people making nasty comments about NYC! Thank you.

I asked a friend who owns Multiple Rental Apartments in Chicago how does evict people who don't pay and how much headache it is for him.
He told me he only used the Court Eviction once one. The Rest of other time, he manage to get people to leave by PAYING them money. He told me almost all the time if he offer someone $1000-1500 to leave within 2 days, they would immediately pack up, and leave as soon as he hand over the cash.
He said this way you are helping someone who has no money, and also save himself the headache of going through the eviction process via Court Order.
Officially called cash for keys
Well
It’s $500 just for a truck n couple guys to haul stuff
Then u have to pack it all
AND still work FT & do children
I can’t make time stand still lol
I couldn’t be out in 2 WEEKS and it would def take more than $500 to make me make myself bonkers
That's quite clever, especially if he saves money in the long run. It's sad that so many people mistreat others yet expect them to keep 'helping' them.
1500😂😂😂😂
There were cases in Toronto, when tenants were asking 100k as keys for cash. That’s a total disaster.
In Toronto a studio apartment in a actual building not someone’s basement cost you around $2100 plus some utilities
Same as LA and SF exactly
Philadelphia too .
Got an idea. All these evicted people should go to the city hall and demand the city will ( Follow their policy) by providing them with housing. Maybe the city should put them in hotels for indefinate amount of time, and give them debit cards to spend on food or whatever.
that money will have to come from taxing you. do you really want to pay someone else's rent and grocery bill
@@DrSchor The city is already doing it for illegal migrants. Why don't do the same for its citizens ?
My lease was due to be renewed 2/21 and my gut told me to get the hell out. I was working remote anyway, best decision ever. I do miss the food at times but I’m still happy I left.
@kimmerlee10 I lived in NYC for 28 years! During the lockdown I had the option to stay but my job was shuttered & very little income was gonna come in monthly. I left in December 2020 & moved far far away! No regrets but I also miss all the food options the most!
The same thing going on over here in Newark Nj, it’s ridiculous 🤦♀️🤦♀️

This is not the first time that he has appeared on a Cash Jordan video. And everytime, he really annoys me
Cash Jordan, My compliments. I like the way you run your show, your subject matters, your editing and all.
I love how everytime something is too expensive, yhe solution is to help people pay for ut instead ot trying to figure out why it's so expensive in the furst place and trying to solve that
This 100%. The redistribution of wealth IS part of the cause and the more Cash and people like him push for it, the worse it will continue to get.

for real tho, you are talking about dismantling an entire country's belief system, which is reinforced every second by all means necessary in order to keep the profits coming and keeping them in offshore accounts. i appreciate your concern tho.
Great video, Cash: Here is the problem with a lease where the landlord/Leasor expects everyone else to pickup the bill and penalizes the tenants who pay their full rent, if one roommate can't pay. While I'm not a lawyer, I did do some research on rental contracts and what constitutes a notice to quit on a rental agreement. If a group of tenants chooses to rent a rental and all choose to sublease, usually each sublease is an individual lease and not a group lease. Since a sublease is an individual promise to pay, only the tenant subleasing is responsible for his or her own share of the rent and no other tenants share, of the rent. As long as the tenants are paying their share of the agreed upon rent, in full the landlord/Leasor can't shift the rent amounts owed by one tenant to everyone else in the group, nor can they evict the group without just cause. A sublease is a single lease, for a room and shared kitchen, bathroom and housing privileges. As long as the subleasor abides by the rules and pays their rent on time, a landlord/leasor has no grounds to evict them. A sublease should never be written to make the other subleasors responsible for a subleasor who can't pay their rent and it is the landlords/leasing companies' job to bring in tenants to the property and not the subleasor's job. Never sign a sublease set up to force you to pay the other subleasors' rent, if they can't pay. It is very illegal and unethical for any landlord/leasing company to force other subleasors to be responsible for another subleasors' rent within a group of subleasors renting together on individual subleasing contracts.-Happy trails😀
The residential occupancy rates for rentals in the city are the highest since the 80's. That's what's really driving this, there's always someone else who can pay and not enough units to go around.

In California- I always paid rent on time for 4 years. Landlord game me “no fault eviction notice” and never provided relocation assistance, not even last month rent excuse. When I demanded to fulfill them their legal obligation, landlord further broke lease agreement which allowed me to have a roomate on lease. Landlord evicted my roommate and raised my rent to 5 times in 1 month. Then when I could not pay that much for 20 days, landlord filed an eviction case, had an expensive attorney and won damages, eviction and got awarded everything landlord asked. Myself, being suffering from severe public anxiety, had to present my case myself as no city or non profit helped me saying they are too overwhelmed with cases. I spoke to judge and felt like I was talking to a wall. The entire system cheated me out to streets. And now I have an eviction on my record and cannot rent elsewhere since I have irregular low income. This system is actively punishing being poor.
I am so sorry, that sounds so horrible. I hope you're in a safe place now. Best wishes
It is a horrible vicious cycle. Tenants cannot afford lawyers, we do not have assembly to establish lobbies. It’s a systemic, intrinsic set up for failure.
I definitely agree ,and look if you come here illegally you get free everything and rewarded, maybe we all should go to Mexico and come across the Rio, and tell them we come from a country where we're scared to live.
@@baine5.7 I was told 35 years ago I could live like a king on a $600/month income in Mexico, even have servants. Mexico is excluding low income people from living there now, only the upper income/wealthy need apply.

I'm a New Yorker and the rent is Krazy in the boroughs right now. The cheapest is probably the Bronx or in the he slums. $2250 for a 1 bed room is insane
$1600 for a bedroom!?! Insane!
For a bedroom with 3 other people. And he made it sound so non-chalant and like its a sensational deal for a tenant
You're not at the mercy of the landlords. You are at the mercy of what other people are willing to pay. Supply is shrinking as room is made for illegal aliens and zoning laws keep capacity static, and somehow demand is staying high.
It is crazy that they are evicting people to house illegal aliens at the same time. New York was once a great city, I hope it can be so again in the future but not at this rate.
I really love this channel, not just because Cash is a great at what he does, but because we can see what is REALLY going on in NYC. Not just a bunch of propaganda that the media outlets give us. He takes us into NYC literally so we can see with our own eyes what the media is NOT telling us.
What does the land lord have to do with that ? Look the price at mortgages. Montages ate at an all time high. Repairs. Runs in the thousands. If the landlord take out a mortgage to repair it cost thousands. It’s a no win situation

Jordan, why do some people with limited resources and limited options insist on living in the most expensive borough in the most expensive city in the United States? Apparently the mind set is to grab for the brass ring on someone else's dime. Some folks will move to surrounding areas such New Jersey that may have lower costs but that doesn't appeal to the self entitled and politically motivated. Being a native New Yorker or otherwise doesn't give anyone the right to maintain a status quo that has become moot by any inference of the law and why should it? Move on, find another dream if it doesn't fit into someone's idea of utopia. Changing the rules to accommodate the least prepared is not going to accomplish much except bring the quality of life down.
Thanks Cash Jordan on educating us on eviction and eviction process. People need to learn real estate like I'm doing to understand and to help you out so that way you never go through this and always have a home to live in because you are now cash rich to do so.
Large networks can't seem to put out journalism of this calibur any more. Great analysis and only the facts....no spin. Keep up the brilliant work.
obviously the media is doing that on purpose, keep people uninformed so they dont rise up and protest wall st. the more separated we are the more we direct our anger at each other and not them...the more isolated we are the less likely we come together and make real change. the illusion that your neighbor is your enemy is a powerful one
"Rent within your means." That made me angry. The very idea that there is rent within everyone's means.

Sad but true. No museum, theatre, restaurant - whatever that city markets itself on - is worth the misery that living in NY has become. I fled years ago and for a while thought about going back but never ever. With technology the city will continue to lose population and stature. Charlotte is second to NY when it comes to banking and comes with a much more livable lifestyle. Other cities are learning how to compete with the Big Crapple. Really said. I was born in Manhattan and lived there much of my life. Only to see it whither on the vine - mostly at the hands of liberals like DiBlasio, Adams and the big one in Albany - Kathy Woke-Ill.

That is total BS. And I GUARANTEE you do not live in NYC. There are always people moving into the city.
NYC like the government at large has a lot of hard changes it needs to make. The problem is most people (especially the politicians) dont want to deal with the difficulty of making the changes. They'd rather slap bandaid on top of bandaid, but the wound just gets worse.
NYC is the direct result of voting in Democrats... You need to realize you get the policies you voted in... The fallout is real because their policies don't work..liberals are shattering cities globally
Similar situation in here in Toronto,Canada
