- Subscribe for more theme park content. Kings Island in Mason, Ohio is an excellent Cedar Fair park. It is often compared to Cedar Point. In 2022, I think Kings Island might have earned the crown of the best Cedar Fair park. In this Kings Island park review, I will discuss the roller coasters, rides, theming, atmosphere, food, and outlook for 2023. Great coasters & great atmosphere led me to have an awesome time at the park. You'll hear all about my thoughts on it in todays Park Review!

I've been going to this park for over 40 years and it's always been great. Ride ops always fast. Staff always friendly, informative, and in sometimes highly entertaining. From the rides, the shows, the fireworks and food, the higher ups no matter who they've been has always made going to kings island feel like you have entered somewhere special when you walk through the gates. Love this place.
It’s truly the king of amusement parks.
I got to ride Banshee during the closing fireworks. It was an incredible experience, having explosions pop in front of you, then under your feet, then behind you, etc. Highly recommend closing your nights with Banshee, especially if there's going to be fireworks that night.
My wife and I were on diamondback lift hill just as finally started and it ended as we pulled into the station. It was one of the most memorable coaster rides ever
The beast is much better to do at night
My home park is CP but I tend to prefer KI. Things go back and forth but I have a more consistent experience at KI vs CP where I have had these days where I show up at open and 2 1/2 hours in they are just getting coasters up and running. I also really appreciate that that Diamondback, Mystic Timbers, and Beast are just right there next to each other. Everything is always a walk at CP and I am one of those weird people who will up and decide to ride Gatekeeper right after SteVe.
Kings Island has the best top 5 of any park in the Cedar Fair chain! Banshee, The Beast, Mystic Timbers, Diamondback, and Orion!

Still think cedar point has the better top 5 in Steel Vengeance, Top Thrill 2, Millennium Force, Maverick, and Gatekeeper. Orion is great, my favorite at King’s Island, but I would take Millennium Force over it. Mystic Timbers is a bit too short, The Beast is a bit too rough, and neither really compares to Steel Vengeance. Diamondback is my second favorite and King’s, and while they are not the same type, Top Thrill 2 is a better #2 for me. Maverick is amazing and nothing compares to it at King’s. Banshee is better than raptor to me, but I wouldn’t even put Raptor in the top five at Cedar Poiny, I have it at 7. So you have GateKeeper and Valravn that King’s Island doesn’t have an equivalent.
As much as I want to make it #4 for Cedar Point

Great video! I enjoyed watching! I actually haven't ridden the 3 kiddie coasters here even though I've ridden a lot of the other coasters. From what you were saying about those 3 coasters it doesn't sound like I was missing out on very much lol.
As a long time visitor of Cedar Point (around 30 years since I first saw that skyline) I had not gotten to Kings Island until 2009. But even then I was very impressed with the quality of park ki really is. At the time I thought it just needed a few marquis coasters to round out the line-up fast forward to now 3 coasters have since been added and all 3 (Twisted Timbers, Banshee, and Orion) are all damn good. I couldn't be happier with it. Yes Cedar Point has the better coaster line-up, but as far as overall park experiences go I'd vote Kings Island all day long.
@Chad Meckstroth yep that's a typo thanks for pointing it out. I have ridden both multiple times however. But yeah in the case of KI I of course mean Mystic and not Twisted
I think if this place gets an RMC, you could definitely make an argument for this having the best lineup at any theme park.
went to Kings Island for the first time last year. had a blast, loved all the coasters. the Beast was my fav. Planning on going again this year to halloween haunt in Sept. cant wait to go

I’m very fortunate to have KI as my home park. It’s only gotten better since Cedar Fair bought it. We get our platinum passes every year for KI and CP. Visited Carowinds for the first time last summer and loved that park as well. Kinda wish Cedar Fair would’ve made Orion more along the lines of Fury 325 which is my favorite giga. Still love Orion though. Thanks for this video!

Yea they do have occasional break downs, last time I was stuck on the delirium for 45 mins but they gave us a free water 😆 that was nice

hardly any of theses rides wear at kings island when i went so not shore cause i went during the paramount era so for now id just have to say cedar point in coasters cause iv been on lots of there new and old rides havent been on any of kings islands new rides but makes scence i havent been to kings island for a while but it looks like a better park
My thoughts are very similar. This is currently my second favorite Cedar Fair park just behind Cedar Point. It's a close call and I actually preferred this over Cedar Point after visiting both in 2015, but that was before returning to Cedar Point in 2017 and having a much better experience.

I feel so spoiled having this as my home park. I know how many good coasters kings island has yet here I am everyday wishing we had better and more coasters. Even though Orion is a giga I feel like it was so disappointing considering the giga that Carowinds got.
Fury is way better, but I think Orion is nothing to scoff at.
I personally think Fury is way overrated. Intimidator 305 and MF is better.@@ThemeParkAvenue
I think Cedar Point has a better layout. I more a fan of the loop (although CP is more of a “Key” shape) than I am of a small clover that is KI, CP's design spreads the crowds out while the KI design with most of the big attractions around the edge keeps the centralized cluster of paths packed. I do love the iconic fountains and Eiffel Tower replica - it’s a stunning entrance. I also love that the frontier section of CP is a mile away from the entrance - you have to earn going back in time in a simulated frontier. At KI, Rivertown is just right there.and not very distinct. CP gives more of a sense of exploration while KI feels more like a big, beautiful mall with rides.
Both layouts are great, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder for this sort of thing.
So far I’ve only been here once which was 2017 so I still have to ride Orion but I’m happy I got on Vortex and Firehawk

Best amusement park I've been to, except possibly Cedar Point in 2018. 2019 was CP's last good year of operations and since then KI is a better park.
Great video!!! I agree with most of what you said... I would say however that the Beast is definitely above Orion💯 The beast is number three at King's Island for me, night rides on the beast when it's hauling are better than any ride Orion will ever give PERIOD! Plus there is nothing special about Orion you want Orion, go ride Diamondback, same thing and it's better then Orion! there's nothing special about Orion at all and the Beast is an all around amazing experience like you said it's a great coaster experience not to be missed that makes it above Orion all day for me!!! But yes this past year of 2022 I would say Kings Island was the #1 or #2 Park in the country, kind of tied with Magic Mountain and then Cedar Point was #3.... When I went to Magic Mountain in September of 2020 to everything was running and it was a great day so coaster wise for me strictly coasters Magic Mountain beat Kings Island!!! But overall I would say that Kings Island is a better Park and I was at Kings Island close to 20 times this year
King’s Island’s coaster skyline is not as impressive as Cedar Point’s is because Cedar Point doesn’t have the amount of trees that King’s Island has. So their coasts aren’t as visible. I like that fact. I haven’t been to King’s Island since 1999., but am going in May. I can’t wait to experience Diamondback!

♥♥♥ Great Vid my mans! If you get ice cream at King's Island - make sure it's the Blue. It's iconic. I love the coaster rankings, very spot on. I feel that in 5 years or less, the glory of Orion will move up. It's gonna grow on people. Banshee to me is Raptor's chill sister, Raptor is all about positive G's, Banshee gives you negative ones and I love that on an invert. Speaking of inverts, Bat is the best of its kind I have ridden. It's so fast and whippy, love it. Invertigo s the best Boomerang and Adventure Express, you can make the argument that it's the best arrow mine. I love the food of King's Island. As a Michigan boy, I have deep love for DeRosa's Pizza and Skyline Chili, just don't eat them before the alien indoor coaster, but maybe you can as that line is criminal.
The flats are Mid for a park like this, but they are getting 2 new ones in 2023, so I'm pumped about this. What's kind of cool is that one of them pays tribute to a ride of the past. King's always remembers their past.
The most underrated attraction is Eiffel Tower. It's a movie. You hear weird shit upstairs by eavesdropping.
Man oh Man, Diamondback is a glory, excited to see the repaint. Back seats is a nice way to cool down - hint hint.
The Beast is crazy. Them tunnels man,I freak out at the helixes and tunnels scraping my face. That sign that says "Keep hands inside, follow that".
Woodstock Express - I think that's the wooden coaster...I dubbed it "Blue Streak Jr" cause of the paint and location on the border, I feel that it;s the best kids coaster outside of Guernee, IL. The ice cream is also lit, besides that, avoid the area if you are an adult, unless you are trying to get Blue Ice Cream, flip off that dam invert headache maker, or trying to get on the flume ride entrance.
The Water Rides are not great here, not one bit, but a MACK Water would be dreamy and if you ever felt the sun on Sunny OHIO, yall WILL agree that it will hit the spot.
Timbers is #1, hands Down, especially later in the day when everyone has had some Bat-wiesers and start singing "Maneater" in the shed. I love seeing the reacts of the ride ops when it happens. Always a good smile when it happens.
Always felt they were lacking in the flats dept. but they are getting two new ones and revamping the dank area. Love this. Cedar Fair takes care of this place and I love it. It's great and only getting better.
The breakdown thing is kinda surprising because this is my home park and that’s usually the best thing about KI but theme parks have been hit or miss lately.

I live 3 hrs from cp and ki. I love both parks. But ki layout is 100 times better than any other park. And operations this year blew cp out of the water. I wish cedar fair would give ki a couple more super stand out big unique coasters then it would rival cp in every way. Im still praying for a ground up RMC son of beast revenge. 🙏 we could only hope

KI is in the top 3-4 for me as far as AMUSEMENT parks (not theme park) are concerned but it just can't be #1 for me. The personal experiences I've had with KI just hasn't quite outweighed the personal experiences I've had at other parks out there. I'd put Magic Mountain, Cedar Point, and Great America above it...That's still saying a lot given the 20-25 amusement parks I've been to (not including THEME parks (ie Universal, Busch, Dollywood etc).

Six Flags MM IMO is run down and just plain ugly. Love Six Flags Great Adventure though.

Outlaw Run gives a far superior night ride than The Beast. The only problem is you can only get night rides at SDC like 2 or 3 weekends a year
I sadly did not go when night rides were possible.
If they redo the front gate with a new coaster like cedar point did with gatekeeper, I think that would be the cherry on top. Their current entrance looks so dated and not exciting

My only complaint with this park is that they WILL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES refund online ticket and parking purchases, the day of our trip near end of season my parents were killed in a car wreck. When talking to Customer Service I told him this and they still absolutely would not refund almost $200 worth of tickets and parking. COLD POLICY TO SAY THE LEAST. They also would not honor them for the next season. Cold cold COLD!

Mystic Timbers just ends so fast it’s definitely a ride twice coaster I did only ride it once but whenever I go back not sure when I’ll ride it more then once

When justifying why Kings Island is my favorite park based on last year, I think it's fair to compare the park to my previous favorite. Not to mention I still reviewed literally every aspect of Kings Island.
im legit at KI rn just no rides bc winter no need to speak on this again but KI IS NOT THE BEST PART NOT EVEN TOP 5. Anyways yeah mystic timbers SUCKS. And the layout isnt great. CP is stupid easy to get to coasters its lay out is basic but the only way to get lost is like finding the entrances them selves which is really easy anyways. CP, BGT, SFGA, SWO (bro underrated) IoA( ops ruined it) and KI is only 6th and prob will be 7 when i get back to Carowinds
Kings Island would be behind Cedar Point & Carowinds and at best is on the same level as Knott's and Kings Dominion in terms of Cedar Fair parks. The coaster line-up is weak for a park having this many coasters. The strength of KI is their operations. I can not speak highly enough of their operations. The operators are always great. If I'm looking just a coasters, comparing Kings Island to Cedar Point and Six Flags Magic Mountain is laughable. And even comparing it to say Six Flags Great Adventure, Hershey Park, Six Flags Great America, or either of the Busch Gardens parks, I would probably take those parks ahead of it. Then plenty of parks have more character and charm such as Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, Knott's, King Dominion, Islands of Adventure over KI.
If I look at the coasters and I currently have 444 credits:
Mystic Timbers- In my 30's. Fairly close to Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster which are 4th and 5th at Cedar Point for me. It is the one coaster I like more, the more I ride it. But I would still take some lower-mid RMC's over it such as Wicked Cyclone or Twisted Cyclone.
Orion- in my 40's. It feels short. Not as good as any of the other gigas I've ridden. If it were longer I cold see it at Mily's level in my 30's. Lacks the intensity of I-305 and the great lay-out of Fury 325.
Diamondback- in My 40's. 4th best B&M Hyper. I will take Mako, Goliath, and Candymonium over this one. The rattle keeps getting worse. This one has been dropping the more I ride it due to the rattle. Yes it gives great air-time.
Banshee- Is at #100. It is 9th of the B&M inverts I've been on. It is middle of the road. The lay-out is great but it jack hammers in the back row. It is no where near Montu or Afterburn or Alpengeist for that matter.
Beast- In my Top 150. If I'm being honest, give me the night ride on Mystic Timbers. Straight track and speed. It was smoother this year. I will give it that.
Bat is 194 and I think this is the one coaster I like more than you. Fantastic coaster for what it is.
Racer is right around 200. Significant improvements this year in terms of smoothness, so this is a solid coaster to have around.
Back Lot Stunt Coaster- In the 210's. A solid family coaster but nothing special.
The rest of the coasters I'm not a fan of.
FLight of Fear is good if you are tall. And I really prefer the outdoor version at Six Flags Fiesta Texas over either indoor model.
Invetigo- this isn't in my Top 300. Head banger. It lacks the same intensity as say Aftershock at Silverwood which I actually enjoyed.
Woodstock Express- I don't have an issue with the coaster. Not something I would go out and ride but for what it is it's fine.
Adventure Express- My thoughts improved on this in 2022. Used to think it was horrible but I re-rode it in 2022. I would say it is an average mine train. Nothing elite like EXcalibur at Valley Fair or Thunderation at Silver Dollar City.
Flying Ace Aerial Chase- This is just awful. It makes Invertigo seem smooth.
To be honest I really never see short lines at KI. I've seen a ghost town at Cedar Point or Kings Dominion or Carowinds, but not KI.
Like I said their operations are easily Top 3 in the country, but in terms of the quality of the coasters, they need to keep subtracting certain ones and adding others in their place to get into the discussion of being a Top 5 park. They would be in the teens for me in the US.
I haven’t been to KD in a while, but saying KI is barely better might be the biggest diss against the park I’ve ever seen.

@@ThemeParkAvenue Kings Dominion has an elite Top 2. Both coasters are significantly higher in my rankings than anything at KI. KD does have a depth problem as well in terms of coasters. I will say that parts of KD is nicer from the fact that the park has a lot of shade. Also their operations are pretty good. Not quite to KI level. I also don't mind the layout. It doesn't bother me that I walk to a dead end for I-305. Silver Dollar City is a top 3 park for me and its layout can be considered crazy. If I'm lapping the top 2 at KD or the top 3 at KI it isn't crazy to put them in the same tier. Neither park is in my Top 10, but both are easily in my teens.
