Yosemite National Park Wedding - A wedding film from the best place on Earth

  • Yosemite - clouds rolled low through the valleys over plants that burst with dark green and orange hues. Waterfalls thundered hundreds of feet into crystal clear pools. Deer and other animals came close to look at us as much as we looked at them.
This wasn't just a one day wedding, it was a four day event involving campfires, bagpipes, hiking, pizza parties, an Aggie Football game, and of course some amazing vows said on Sentinel Beach in the heart of the valley. This wasn't even a dedicated venue site for weddings. People just pull up, park, and get married on a first come, first served basis. I've filmed many laid-back weddings before, but this is on a whole new level.
Kristin said it best the first night we all arrived, Yosemite is the best place on earth. I hope to go back and film another wedding there soon.
Filmed by Matt Johnson and Skyler Fike. Special thanks to Jordan Laessig.

Matt I have developed a huge amount of respect for you and your work.
Your captures tell and bring out the best of the day combined with the fact of how much people enjoy, trust and give you their best during the day which is because of you.
People are like mirrors and I can tell through them how amazing you are.
You are what a videographer should/must be.
My sincere compliments to you always.
    Cheers, Pete

Hey Matt, I know it's preferable to use a wide angle lens on a steadicam. What's your go-to lens on your stedicam shots? Thanks.

Matt! You are are the man! This is one of the coolest wedding films I have ever seen. You are extremely inspiring to me and have helped me grow as a videographer with your tutorials as well as amazing examples of story telling like this one! I am a young videographer from Alaska, and it is great to have people like you to look up to. Thanks man.

Amazing cinematography and storytelling. You did an excellent job capturing what made that so unique. The amazing scenery was a big bonus but you brought it all together incredibly well

Do you have a structure, like an internal storyboard or do you just wing it on the day?

    • @whoismatt

+jason stanley Hey Jason, I have a pretty extensive interview with every couple before filming them. I also have a schedule of the day with notes that I take emphasizing what I believe will be the most important moments. Before going into this film, I knew that Kristin and Marshall wanted me to heavily feature the many beautiful features of the park. They wanted their film to show the nature, wildlife, and many hiking trails. I nearly killed myself hiking over 6 miles with them while carrying my Glidecam, but it was worth it.
There is still a "winging it" aspect, because things don't always go as planned, but when that happens I try to adapt as best as I can and above all else keep filming.

    Matt,
What type of audio set up is going on here. Sound is great. What else do you use other than steady cam for shot stability. Thanks.

      @whoismatt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Jerry Mack Thanks Jerry! For audio, I was running several mics: A Sennheiser G3 lapel on the groom that was recording into a Sony FS100. I also had 2 Olympus DM-620 recorders with Microphone Madness Matchstick Lapel mics. One on the groom for backup and one on the minister. Most everything was either shot on a Glidecam HD-4000 or a Manfrotto Monopod.

is this the entire video you give to the couple, or this is just like a short version of the video? Many thanks. Excellent Job.

+Matt Johnson Here in Spain I think we have the feeling that the longer the video the better, and that´s why I see many wedding videos over 20 minutes which is maybe too much!
