    A five day backpacking trip with my son in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. For me the trip begins at Rich Mountain Gap and my son starts at Chestnut Top Trail, with both of us staying at Campsite #5 our first night. On day two we hike Indian Grave Gap Trail to Rich Mountain Loop Trail and then up Crooked Arm Ridge Trail and Scott Mountain Trail to Campsite #6, where we meet some friends. The next day we backtrack down the Crooked Arm Ridge Trail to Cades Cove Loop Road and then up Anthony Creek Trail up to Campsite #9. On a rainy day 4 we continue up Anthony Creek Trail to Bote Mountain Trail and then down Lead Cove Trail to Finely Cane Trail back to Bote Mountain Trail and then West Prong Trail to Campsite #18. Our last day we have a short hike out on the West Prong Trail to Tremont.
    Thanks for watching!

    Very cool that you met Barbara Allen by coincidence. What an inspiration! I truly hope I'm able to hike like her at 80. I have to ask, Bryan... How old are you? You're staying extremely active and are hiking an impressive number of miles each year at any age!

    Hi Bryan.
    Another wonderful and enjoyable video.
    I share my philosophy for your comment:
    I'm 70 but have exercised most of my adult life. The main reason for that was to be able to hike (mostly day hikes) and do the AT.
    I started a section hike "program" in Feb, 1992 of hiking the entire AT. However, due to work and family needs, I'm now only at Caledonia State Park (mp 1085). I'd love to at least make it to the CT/MA border on the trail, but logistics of getting to/from the trail are becoming more difficult (I have retired to the Laurel, MS area). I'm thinking about doing what you do so much of - concentrating on shorter trips, more local to the southeast. This includes: Smokies trail system, Ouachita Trail in Arkansas, re-hiking the AT Fontana Dam to Damascus (did those sections before I had a digital camera), Florida Trail (northern parts in the winter) etc. My 24-year old grandson now wants to hike with me!🙏🙏🙂
    You seem to already be doing some of what I'm thinking of.
    Would enjoy any thoughts you have.
    I have my own channel and enjoy filming and making videos of my hikes to share the beauty of the Lord's Creation. I could continue that on more "local" trails...
    Thank you for what you do, it has inspired me to think differently...
    God bless!

    • @BryanDeLay
      @BryanDeLay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ken! That's great that you've hiked 1,085 miles of the AT. I've hiked about 750 miles from Springer north to about Blacksburg, VA. My focus was never only about hiking the AT or any other long trail for that matter. First I hiked all the trails in the GSMNP then spread out to hiking all the trails in the nearby wilderness areas, along with hiking in many different states, including several out west. In the last 35 years I've backpacked over 13,000 miles in 25 different states. I've gotten to the point I just enjoy being outdoors and enjoy time at camp as much as the hiking part and take a Kindle to read. For me it's not physical, it's more mental and what I like to do. Hopefully you can develop your own unique path.

    Great video as always. I’d someday like to see the area of ole Daniel Boone. Or was he more from Kentucky? Just wondering which area you hiked in this last year that was most crowded and least crowded. Thanks as always. Here’s to a happy 2021!

    • @BryanDeLay
      @BryanDeLay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Chad! Daniel Boone's stomping ground was more along the Kentucky/Tennessee state line near the Cumberland Gap National Park. The most crowded trip was easily the Jackass Pass loop in the Winds. The least crowded area is more difficult since I did several trips that I didn't see anyone, but generally the least crowded areas were in Cherokee National Forest and Citico Creek Wilderness, both in Tennessee. Hope you have a great 2021!

    • @BryanDeLay
      @BryanDeLay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Johnny! If you see me in 2021 please say hello. The map scenes were created with Blender, which is a free software alternative to Adobe After Effects. It is rather complicated app capable of creating 3D & 2D images and videos used to create special effects and even video games. It took me "forever" to learn how to make these simple 2D map animations. There are hundreds of Blender tutorials on TH-cam, although if I knew then what I know now I probably would have looked into a more simple app.
