Basically, only push as hard as you have to. If you press too hard, it causes tension and pain in the fingertip. If you don't press hard enough, the string will not produce a good sound.

Also I've watched your other video about shoulder rest and I'd like to know how to properly fit each side, is it too high, too low, what exact position should the shoulder rest rest on (lol) I've seen people using them with violins tilted way up or down, too flat you have to put you arm way to high to play G. Yes, it's difficult to have one rule for how the rest should fit you or your instrument I suppose. The most important aspects are that the shoulder dress fits on the instrument so it doesn't fall off and the rest is adjusted so you have the most support and least amount of tension in your jaw, neck and shoulder. In other words, everybody will be different!
Exactly. The more we learn about how the human mind works, the better we get at training it. Also, violin technique has improved because all the best techniques from around the world have been combined and kids are starting younger.
Who found this tosh about talent as "ability to deliberate practice"????? Talent is an inborn ability to do easily what is hard for others. Easy peasy.

By the way just out of curiosity at what age did you start playing viola (or violin)?
I started at 6 years old. For my generation that was pretty normal. Now a lot of kids will start at 4 or 5. 😉. My daughter started at a young 5.
Kennedy Violins Yea I started viola pretty late (at 11) so I had to practice really hard the first two or three years to catch up with everyone else.

Talent doesn't exist. It's a myth. That's the whole point of the video if you watch it. It's backed by many scientific studies.
