I got your message, haha. If you want my impressions, it's much improved between the in-game variant. The drums are far more crisp, and the brass more resolute than the GBA hardware ever could have done yet it keeps the same nostalgia factor I get when I listen to the original. I like it just as much as Coaltergeist's remaster if I'm honest. Your's just pops a bit more and that's alright in my book.

Makes me wonder what Motoi Sakuraba was doing synth-wise when he was writing the Golden Sun and Tales of Destiny 2 soundtracks. What I DO know, though, is that this piece here drove me to look for a VST version of the SC-88 sampler, which I thankfully found with Roland's Sound Canvas VA plugin. Eventually I got a Roland SC-8850 and that's just kickass. Thanks for the motivation.

That's cool, I remixed the soundtrack using the Dark Dawn soundfont on my page. Now I'm working on remastering the entire soundtrack using the exact samples from the SC-88. I'm also mixing it myself so I hope it will sound as fresh as we've all imagined it to be.

How did you map the Brass to only play that specific sample? It only has about a 5 note range by default. Also, what is the name of the perc. set on the Sound Canvas? I'd love to continue this.

Asamiya Shin late response, but it’s because the GBA soundchip has a sample rate too low for what many game composers tried to do with it, so music sounds fuzzy and generally crap coming out of it. He got the music file from the game, modified it into a format understood by the synthesizer used by the developers, and tweaked it until it sounded right.
