I have a pleasant memory of buying my Ennui protection in this shop. This guy helped me and my lady pick the protection and we later met him at the local skatepark where he was teaching some kids how to grind on a rail. Wholesome guy.

Thanks Ivo. Keep up the media, it is really helpful and transparent.
I do like the simple, true explanation without bells and whistles, like some other tubers do (30 minutes opening boxes or talking 2 hours about history of soul plate).

Leuke info Ivo! After a crash on an iceskatering some years ago I started wearing soft type knee pads there under my skatingtights. During an outside iceskate this year I actually hurt my vastus medialus quite bad while wearing Nijdam kneeprotectors --> the plastic cup of them slammed in my muscle while falling over a crack in the ice. Took them apart afterward, concluded the padding had come apart on a glued ridge resulting in the plastic cup going between them into my muscle...

I’ve used Triple 8 and Pro-Tec pads for years. Great products, reasonably priced. I also have some thin Powerslide knee gaskets, which are great for urban city skating, or distance skating, where falling isn’t likely but still possible.

I had a very hard time finding knee pads that fit my thigh. Most of the ones I tried were way too tight in the cuff and would cut off circulation in my legs and cause bruising. I ended up getting some Smith Scabs Derby Pads which butterfly open in the back.

nice, helpful video! though as a window cleaner, those french windows at 3:34 would be impossible to clean! first its super tedius because you do each 1 by 1, second you must use cloths because the wobbly surface means a squeegee is not an option; next if they have calcium/hard water staining, they're as good as broken - aint they never getting cleaned; and also, practically you'd just roughly scrub them all, and use pure water to clean the dirty water off the now clean glass, but you can't really do this for the inside!
    absolute nightmare fuel

thanks for writing this comment, because I LOVE these type of windows, but this makes sense why you never see them around anymore. if I ever install these I'll put them in a room with a drain. 🤣

This is wonderful advice. For anyone thinking to save money on the cheaper brands. I just found out the hard way with a bad fall where I wasn't confident in my knee pads so avoided using them, that the hospital bill is considerbly more expensive

  • @OnnoKaell

@Thisissoul - I wear the G-Form pads under my pants for street and park skating and due to the fact that I lost my Pro Designed knee & elbow pads and my Menace Pads finally gave in after 20 years I am looking for a good set of Vert Pads - I will probably get the TSG Force V as they seem to be the thickest pads available. Oh and on a side note - Ennui is the protection brand of Powerslide so technically it is an inline brand and thus should also be supported! ;)

The pads worked best for me are the Ennui ST. I even had the Zebra one, which is hideous, but I got it cheap and fits pretty good, and eats up impact like nothing happened.
My biggest let down was also from Ennui, the Shock sleeve pro. It supposed to be an expensive super pad, but I never could get it properly working for me. When I wore it without pants it always slid down when falling. It took the initial impact but as it slid down I was on my knees suffering the secondary and the bruises. Also I was not happy how it dampened the fall, although I'm pretty big 100 Kg +. The deal breaker happened when I messed up a grind, fell directly on the ledge with my knee, and it felt like as it did not protect anything at all. Maybe I caught a hole with the padding or something, but my knee hurt for months.

For new skaters, is it better to buy a set (knee, elbow, and wrist) or each piece individually for sizes? I've been renting for now, as I'm fairly new to roller skating, but very much considering to buy my own gear, as some of theirs don't always fit, or the velcro is shot. If I'm going to spend a decent amount of money, I want to know what my best options are
