May be different in the US but I run studies similar in the UK and they show a less than 2% variation between white and black sounding names and even then the sample sizes are often tiny for these studies becuase it's actually surprisingly difficult to write enough valid looking CVs to get a significant number of responses back. I'm not saying there isn't discrimination, but it's likely only a very small handful of individuals scattered throughout companies that are the issue rather yhan a systemic problem.
Im glad Corey did this, as a 25 year old black man the older you get in life the more you begin to give up on fighting the system and saying it is what it is. Any would-be competitor needs content creators, so it's up to the creators to make a platform competitive. If they truly have a problem with TH-cam then maybe start opening channels on other video sharing platforms and start posting "uncensored" versions of the same videos they upload to TH-cam. Yes it would take more work, but no one said breaking up monopolies would be easy.

Aba is spot on, diversity has always been a lie. The only diversity the people pushing for it want is basically different shades of skin color holding the exact same opinions. Different skin colors alone do nothing to "make us stronger" it's all about differences in opinions, experiences, culture, and thought which allow us to reach new conclusions, thought processes, and ideas.
Some companies definitely do truly believe in diversity. But they tend to be smaller businesses and start ups or local business owners who have to take what they can get - someone who is on time and works hard rather than being picky. I think the more genuine companies are outside the US however.

I think it has more to do with his own insecurities. It seems like he always thinks it's because he's black when something bad happens to him which is not a good mindset to have. Even this situation has nothing to do with him being black. It's TH-cam's faulty algorithm that didn't age restrict everyone's video correctly since that was the intended outcome due to the content being presented in those videos. The reason TH-cam took off age restriction was because he gave an example of another video not being age restricted. They then went in and investigated the situation and saw the age restriction was correct just that it wasn't being applied to everyone correctly so they "fixed" it and age restricted everyone. Again, none of this was because he was black.

The video in question here was always going to get age restricted it just wasn't working correctly and doing the same with everyone. I don't know if you have seen the numbers but it's said that 500 hours of video is uploaded to TH-cam every minute. I hate TH-cam's weird tactics against content creators, but I love the content creators. We need more platforms for content creators that have their own separate rules.
the reason why TH-cam is so vague about their polices is because they can easily pander to whatever narrative they have to to keep their advertisers by removing whatever video's they want without giving a particular reason. Remember TH-cam needs advertisers, so if the site if filled with opinions from people that don't run over well with advertisers or big brands then they would loose money. One persons opinion should not be treated differently from anothers as long as it doesn't come off hatefully.
Cory is not brand friendly to the types of companies that advertise on youtube. Even with him not cussing and blurring out things in his video to make his videos safer for consumption, Cory... culturally, is not what they'd want their brand to promote ideally.

Funny part is Markiplier isn't even white, he's Korean, but he's well recognized both by the company and by the community, he's literally done entire productions with TH-cam while trying to advocate for creators, man literally bet his entire career doing a "try not to get age restricted" video as an experiment to see if or how biased the system/company really is by playing an "adult only" game on TH-cam. And honestly, I think you're both right, it may partly be about race, but if so it's because of what that person represents, you can be or look however you are or want, but what matters to them is if it's "marketable", sometimes TH-cam is even willing to let more "risque" content slide, because it's PROFITABLE, there's loads of sex scenes on TH-cam and even an entire section about reviewing "adult" toys and nude yoga videos and videos about nudism, just like there's also hyper violent movie, show and game clips on TH-cam and none of them will be age restricted, because as long as there isn't some sort of uproar over it, TH-cam quite frankly doesn't give a fuck, meanwhile more visible and more careful creators get strikes for "provocative outfits" or lewd language, or playing a game which everyone likes but there's a small vocal minority that want the game banned or think it's extreme. Hell, even if you make content which SHOULD fall into a safe zone for TH-cam's guidelines, like partial artistic depictions of nudity, if there's someone out there who just has it out for you because they're a troll or they have a hate crush on you, all they need to do is scream loud enough and they may put your entire career at risk of crashing down without you EVER knowing they existed.

This is part of why I dropped out of teaching and changed careers. Being Aboriginal (a minority), I was only hired because of my race. Simple. My views went against what I was "supposed to say," what I'm "supposed to believe," and what I'm "supposed to being fighting against." I was just a number or a box on a checklist that was supposed to help policies and promote their woke agenda. It frustrated the school that I taught students to be open minded, and the school board decided to take action against me when I made an open comment about "We are teaching our children to become robots, not thinkers. We have them be told HOW to think rather than to THINK about the WHY and WHAT they are learning."

Finally someone with a platform said it. I'm disabled and work for a fortune 100 company that always wins awards for diversity, equity, and inclusivity and is like top 10 companies for disabled people to work at. One time I had a particularly bad bout of health and had to take some time off. When I came back I was demoted. I raised an HR complaint and they told me they weren't legally required to restore my job. It was so frustrating, bur hey what am I going to do sue them and lose my livelihood when I got a family to take care of?
Amazon had people working in a warehouse with no AIR Condition while they were doing press releases bragging about how much money they gave Black Lives Matter.
Just like my father always told me: "Just play the game. You'll run into so much stuff that doesn't make sense or seems outlandish, but just play the game." I can’t speak on YT but the whole world is full of some BS and it ain’t just ràce related. I got a red light ticket and sent in video evidence that I stopped (full stop) and turned where there were no signs restricting turning on red. Verdict by them, still guilty, we don’t care about your evidence and still demand you pay us. Another, the gøvernment offered me healthcare but I had to pay out of pocket for it, so I turned it down. They billed me anyway, sent me to collectíons and reported me to the credit bureaus. I called them, proved my case with the paperwork showing I never agreed to this or used it (turned it down from day one). Did they care? Nope and still demanded I pay, mind you this is literally the gøvernment and they basically said the gøvernment doesn’t care if you are right, you still owe us because we say so. How about the credit bureaus? They didn’t care either, even with evídence turning it down, they still refused to change their reporting. I asked them what is the proof that I owe (I have proof I don’t), no replies from them anymore and I’m still being billed. Guys I could go on and on, pølice pulled over for no reason, pølice harassment, hospitals double billing me (3 different hospitals that has happened to me), not getting promotions because I wasn’t friends with the right peøple, not even getting the job because of some BS excuse usually about experience (yet they hire someone with zero experience), billed more than someone else for the same thing, house appraised less than exact same home as my neighbors (because they used the lowest fixer upper comps when mine isn’t a fixer upper)…. Basically we all go through some BS and life isn’t fair but it isn’t always about ràce, it’s just BS in general in our society…. One more thing, yes I can’t know your personal experiences but don’t think it’s always just about skín color and don’t think there aren’t advantages too. Where I used to work (it was a gøvernment job, that’s all across the country), it was over 30% Błack (when the country is 12% Błack. So if you want a gøvernment job, you have a definite advantage in getting hired and of that there is zero doubt. Also, let’s be honest, I personally don’t care what someone’s skín color is, just that we are cool with each other (and my point is, most people are like that too). Even though, there is still a lot of BS out there and we all feel like we are tàrgets at times (some of us feel like that a lot).

I’m a content mod for an A-list social media company and let me just say this: there are things that are caught by AI and things that are caught by humans and I can 100% confirm there are many biases present, racial or not. We have to go through extensive general bias training and I can attest that the same biases they hold before training are the same ones they hold afterwards. When I go through appeals, I’m baffled at what was and what wasn’t flagged because the mod before me clearly showed negligence. I definitely don't think Cory's situation is about racism, but rather just outright favoritism. Many other white TH-camrs have had issues with TH-cam like Cory has. Markiplier is a good example of a "golden boy" in TH-cam's eyes and he gets a pass most of the time. It's not about pushing down black creators, it's about pushing down people whose ideas they disagree with or who aren't brand friendly.

I actually had a situation very much like this working at a restaurant. I wasn't allowed to have a mustache or other facial hair; policy of the general manager. That was until one of his favorites came back to work who had a full-on beard. I called that out immediately. I was allowed to have my mustache rather than him making his buddy shave his beard. FYI, there are hair nets for facial hair.
Had a similar situation in college, took golf/swimming with an almost all female class( great time for a 17 years old boy hehe), they wanted to swim without headwear, he said ok but I still had to wear one, I asked why and the instructor said because i had long hair....well , most of the girls had long hair and they did not have to wear the hat, i think he was afraid i go higher cause he said ok, still felt weird that i had to point out the hypocrisy.
This happened to me at my school, I got accused of something I didnt do ,btw I'm and immigrant from poland that moved to ireland and the school is mostly irish ,they accused me endlessly of things I'd never do ,I got bullied by teachers for two years ,suspended ,even thoguht I was one of the most obident students ,my parents could never defend me because of the language barrier and I 100% belive that they took advantage of this ,not the mention the mother of the girl who accused me was close friends with the principle ,so it was a lost cause from thhe start ,the reality is that people will always choose personally and emotionally even in professional environments

We need to push that it is mandated by law that these companies have to tell you the exact specific reason your videos are either banned,restricted or otherwise and if they cannot articulate it they are not allowed to enforce the ban by law. also terms of service should be forced to be enforced when people are found to be violating them regardless of any other circumstance and they should go both ways so for instance all that drama that went down with the act man that other guy he was feuding with should absolutely have been banned. it has been objectively proven that he had violated terms of service seven different ways. That's not a good idea. If we start involving the government in social media policies it could get real ugly. Plus think about it not everyone is from the same place. So the laws could vary which makes it difficult to do that anyway. For example, Copyright in the U.S. is vastly different in Japan, just mentioning a character or product could get you copyright striked. So it's a slippery slope anyway involving governments on social media platforms

It always was. There is a limited number of advertisement spots available, so if you promote one group, you must demote another. All of this is just one big mask off moment for the people who say "It's because I'm X, now promote me because of that and demote that other group because they are Y."

There is even case law where the CEO of a company tried to do something for community reasons but the shareholders didn't want to because they could make more money otherwise. The CEO did it anyway, and the shareholders sued. The court ruled in the shareholders' favor that the CEO was in the wrong because he was acting against the interests of the company by lowering its profit. That's why non-profit business entities are explicitly a separate thing. Asking a for-profit corporation to give a shit about anything over their bottom line is like asking a person to voluntarily fast.

You say that but there are literal studies that show a person with a 'black sounding name' is less hierable even with the same cv as one with a 'white sounding name'.

May be different in the US but I run studies similar in the UK and they show a less than 2% variation between white and black sounding names and even then the sample sizes are often tiny for these studies becuase it's actually surprisingly difficult to write enough valid looking CVs to get a significant number of responses back. I'm not saying there isn't discrimination, but it's likely only a very small handful of individuals scattered throughout companies that are the issue rather yhan a systemic problem.
Im glad Corey did this, as a 25 year old black man the older you get in life the more you begin to give up on fighting the system and saying it is what it is. Any would-be competitor needs content creators, so it's up to the creators to make a platform competitive. I think it has more to do with his own insecurities. It seems like he always thinks it's because he's black when something bad happens to him which is not a good mindset to have. Even this situation has nothing to do with him being black. It's TH-cam's faulty algorithm that didn't age restrict everyone's video correctly since that was the intended outcome due to the content being presented in those videos. The reason TH-cam took off age restriction was because he gave an example of another video not being age restricted. They then went in and investigated the situation and saw the age restriction was correct just that it wasn't being applied to everyone correctly so they "fixed" it and age restricted everyone. Again, none of this was because he was black.

And honestly, I think you're both right, it may partly be about race, but if so it's because of what that person represents, you can be or look however you are or want, but what matters to them is if it's "marketable", sometimes TH-cam is even willing to let more "risque" content slide, because it's PROFITABLE, there's loads of sex scenes on TH-cam and even an entire section about reviewing "adult" toys and nude yoga videos and videos about nudism, just like there's also hyper violent movie, show and game clips on TH-cam and none of them will be age restricted, because as long as there isn't some sort of uproar over it, TH-cam quite frankly doesn't give a fuck, meanwhile more visible and more careful creators get strikes for "provocative outfits" or lewd language, or playing a game which everyone likes but there's a small vocal minority that want the game banned or think it's extreme. Hell, even if you make content which SHOULD fall into a safe zone for TH-cam's guidelines, like partial artistic depictions of nudity, if there's someone out there who just has it out for you because they're a troll or they have a hate crush on you, all they need to do is scream loud enough and they may put your entire career at risk of crashing down without you EVER knowing they existed.

This is part of why I dropped out of teaching and changed careers. Being Aboriginal (a minority), I was only hired because of my race. Simple. My views went against what I was "supposed to say," what I'm "supposed to believe," and what I'm "supposed to being fighting against." I was just a number or a box on a checklist that was supposed to help policies and promote their woke agenda. It frustrated the school that I taught students to be open minded, and the school board decided to take action against me when I made an open comment about "We are teaching our children to become robots, not thinkers. We have them be told HOW to think rather than to THINK about the WHY and WHAT they are learning."

I'm disabled and work for a fortune 100 company that always wins awards for diversity, equity, and inclusivity and is like top 10 companies for disabled people to work at. One time I had a particularly bad bout of health and had to take some time off. When I came back I was demoted. I raised an HR complaint and they told me they weren't legally required to restore my job. I can’t speak on YT but the whole world is full of some BS and it ain’t just ràce related. I got a red light ticket and sent in video evidence that I stopped (full stop) and turned where there were no signs restricting turning on red. Verdict by them, still guilty, we don’t care about your evidence and still demand you pay us.
Another, the gøvernment offered me healthcare but I had to pay out of pocket for it, so I turned it down. They billed me anyway, sent me to collectíons and reported me to the credit bureaus. I called them, proved my case with the paperwork showing I never agreed to this or used it (turned it down from day one). Did they care? Nope and still demanded I pay, mind you this is literally the gøvernment and they basically said the gøvernment doesn’t care if you are right, you still owe us because we say so. How about the credit bureaus? They didn’t care either, even with evídence turning it down, they still refused to change their reporting. I asked them what is the proof that I owe (I have proof I don’t), no replies from them anymore and I’m still being billed.
Guys I could go on and on, pølice pulled over for no reason, pølice harassment, hospitals double billing me (3 different hospitals that has happened to me), not getting promotions because I wasn’t friends with the right peøple, not even getting the job because of some BS excuse usually about experience (yet they hire someone with zero experience), billed more than someone else for the same thing, house appraised less than exact same home as my neighbors (because they used the lowest fixer upper comps when mine isn’t a fixer upper)…. Basically we all go through some BS and life isn’t fair but it isn’t always about ràce, it’s just BS in general in our society….
One more thing, yes I can’t know your personal experiences but don’t think it’s always just about skín color and don’t think there aren’t advantages too. Where I used to work (it was a gøvernment job, that’s all across the country), it was over 30% Błack (when the country is 12% Błack. So if you want a gøvernment job, you have a definite advantage in getting hired and of that there is zero doubt. Also, let’s be honest, I personally don’t care what someone’s skín color is, just that we are cool with each other (and my point is, most people are like that too). It sounds like an internal issue they don't want to address. Like they split their reviewers into teams, and let each team interpret guidelines their own way when reviewing. And then there's the question of What team is in charge of reviewing what videos, and how diverse is it?

I’m a content mod for an A-list social media company and let me just say this: there are things that are caught by AI and things that are caught by humans and I can 100% confirm there are many biases present, racial or not. We have to go through extensive general bias training and I can attest that the same biases they hold before training are the same ones they hold afterwards. When I go through appeals, I’m baffled at what was and what wasn’t flagged because the mod before me clearly showed negligence. I definitely don't think Cory's situation is about racism, but rather just outright favoritism. Many other white TH-camrs have had issues with TH-cam like Cory has. Markiplier is a good example of a "golden boy" in TH-cam's eyes and he gets a pass most of the time. It's not about pushing down black creators, it's about pushing down people whose ideas they disagree with or who aren't brand friendly.

I actually had a situation very much like this working at a restaurant. I wasn't allowed to have a mustache or other facial hair; policy of the general manager. That was until one of his favorites came back to work who had a full-on beard. I called that out immediately. I was allowed to have my mustache rather than him making his buddy shave his beard. FYI, there are hair nets for facial hair.
Had a similar situation in college, took golf/swimming with an almost all female class( great time for a 17 years old boy hehe), they wanted to swim without headwear, he said ok but I still had to wear one, I asked why and the instructor said because i had long hair....well , most of the girls had long hair and they did not have to wear the hat, i think he was afraid i go higher cause he said ok, still felt weird that i had to point out the hypocrisy.

This happened to me at my school, I got accused of something I didnt do ,btw I'm and immigrant from poland that moved to ireland and the school is mostly irish ,they accused me endlessly of things I'd never do ,I got bullied by teachers for two years ,suspended ,even thoguht I was one of the most obident students ,my parents could never defend me because of the language barrier and I 100% belive that they took advantage of this ,not the mention the mother of the girl who accused me was close friends with the principle ,so it was a lost cause from thhe start ,the reality is that people will always choose personally and emotionally even in professional environments

We need to push that it is mandated by law that these companies have to tell you the exact specific reason your videos are either banned,restricted or otherwise and if they cannot articulate it they are not allowed to enforce the ban by law. also terms of service should be forced to be enforced when people are found to be violating them regardless of any other circumstance and they should go both ways so for instance all that drama that went down with the act man that other guy he was feuding with should absolutely have been banned. it has been objectively proven that he had violated terms of service seven different ways. TH-cam should be forced to De-platform him because he is violating the terms of service being able to selectively enforce them against one person but not another is disgusting to me these things need to be mandated by law if we’re ever going to have a fair online community
It's a slippery slope. You start involving the government in the ToS of private companies and you will quickly open up a can of worms.
That's not a good idea. If we start involving the government in social media policies it could get real ugly. Plus think about it not everyone is from the same place. So the laws could vary which makes it difficult to do that anyway. For example, Copyright in the U.S. is vastly different in Japan, just mentioning a character or product could get you copyright striked. So it's a slippery slope anyway involving governments on social media platforms

What people should be angry about is how before youtube was bought by these selfish creeps it was a great site. For the people by the people and was a great community. Now its a corporate miserable landscape filled with ads, arbitrarily pushed videos and channels. And unfair bans.
The big problem is most TH-camr don’t sue when this happens, even the ones that have the money, that’s why TH-cam don’t change.

There is a limited number of advertisement spots available, so if you promote one group, you must demote another. All of this is just one big mask off moment for the people who say "It's because I'm X, now promote me because of that and demote that other group because they are Y."

There is even case law where the CEO of a company tried to do something for community reasons but the shareholders didn't want to because they could make more money otherwise. The CEO did it anyway, and the shareholders sued. The court ruled in the shareholders' favor that the CEO was in the wrong because he was acting against the interests of the company by lowering its profit.
That's why non-profit business entities are explicitly a separate thing. Asking a for-profit corporation to give a shit about anything over their bottom line is like asking a person to voluntarily fast.

It's got nothing to do with race, or if it does that's just one component, you get this shit as any kind of creator that isn't 100% TV friendly (yes, this includes playing video games, or being even remotely religious). If you make a video about the same news CNN/Fox just posted that gets promoted to the front page on TH-cam you still get demonetized and surpressed.
