@Sabrina Biton-Tinoco - He doesn't . It is in time with four beats per bar . There is some variation of tempo within the variation , slowing down considerably by bar 10 . This is his interpretation and in accord with the style of music and it's gypsy 'swagger ' .Not so sure though about bar 11 of the melody , where the triplet is altered to the last three of four 16ths , the first being a tied one from the B.
I don't understand why, in the second variation, he plays the triplet 16ths notes as if they were 32nd notes and when it gets to the trill he goes back to playing them like 16th notes???
He’s not actually playing 32nd instead of 16th, he’s just playing the beginning of the variation really rithmical and strong, while playing the second phrase more romantic and singing
I don't know this guy, but i really don't like his interpretation of Airs Valaques. I don't feel anything when I listen to this. He plays good, it's technically perfect, the sound is good (but i don't like the sound of golden flute) but no feeling. It's too fast, no dynamics. It's insipid. He plays this piece like we play a Mozart's piece. Where are the heat and the sensuality of Valaque's nature ? And I hate the way he behaves on scene. I would like to go in details but my english is too bad, sorry.
Jeanne Mauvais u say he plays like it's Mozart piece. The rubato, the dynamic variation, tempo control, the virtuosity, it's nothing like a Mozart style. there's vids of formisano playing mozart in D on TH-cam look it up and compare
Meraviglioso come sempre! Che nostalgia non averti più alla Scala...
Precisione, espressività, sicurezza, interpretazione, suono. Lui come pochi. Bravo maestro!
Lui é molto bravo ma questo brano....terribile, non significa nulla.
A very riveting performance. It is a pleasure to both watch and listen to you. Very endless and strong breath control!!! Wonderful.
Powerful and incredible technique. So happy I just found out about this flautist.

What a sloppy piece! It goes nowhere...really
nauseating.
I agree with you. It means nothing....
Rarely someone can observe such an amount of deformed musical thinking all mixed with the worst taste. And youtube is full of this guy... :/
+fritz lang What are you talking about ? this performance is just amazing ... Do you just enven know who Davide Formisano is ??
Hold your tongue
