      I still can’t fathom the idea that she didn’t won that Tony for Caroline! I mean, Joaquina was fantastic but SHARON’S CAROLINE IS A PHENOMENON.

    I didn't even finish half of the video.
    Instead I went over to the website for Clarke's upcoming Broadway production and bought a ticket for the first available night.

    Is there anything this woman can't do? She's amazing in everything she does.

    I remember watching the GREAT Tonya Pinkins’ heart wrenching performance of Lott’s Wife on the Tony Awards. She seemed ill but it gave the performance an exasperated authentic quality that was SO POWERFUL. I was always sad I never saw the show. It launched the career of the wonderful Anika Noni Rose (who won the productions only Tony)… I’m lucky to be in NYC Oct 8th when it opens for previews. I’m going, I don’t care!!! Sharon D. Clarke is a FORCE!!

    The Brits KNEW to give this stunning performance a deserved standing ovation to Sharon D. Clarke. Why in bloody Hell didn't the Americans at the 2004 Tony Awards do the same with Tonya Pinkins?

      I saw the original broadway run with Tonya and it was amazing! Just saw that revival will hit broadway next year. Time to start planning trip!

    • @atlsuperstar
      @atlsuperstar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because unfortunately Tonya was hoarse most of the run and on the Tonys which took away from the performance. Don't get me wrong, she should have won but her voice was a distraction.
      Even though I wouldn't consider Miss Clarke a powerhouse vocalist. She hits all the right notes with great choices and I think will all due respect to Tanya. This is how it's suppose to be sung.

      @@atlsuperstar If you'd seen Sharon D Clarke in Blues in the Night you definitely would not be saying she's not a powerhouse vocalist.

      As much as some might hate it, "Wicked" is timeless and part of the reason for that is Idina's performance. She was the talk of the town that year. The musical was the most successful original musical Broadway had seen in years. So it's understandable she was the obvious choice for the award. I'm pretty sure had she lost to Tonya the public would still cause an uproar. Heck they already did when "Wicked" lost to "Avenue Q".

    Powerful but I still prefer Tonya Pinkins. She was robbed of the Tony.
