They are designed to be used as interpersonal communication tools by communities and frontline workers in giving out important information to women and caregivers.
Key Messages
----------------------
If you suspect that you or anyone in your family might be/have been exposed to HIV, you should immediately go to the nearest ICTC and receive counselling and testing services.
HIV testing and counselling can help in the early detection of HIV infection. It allows you to:
get timely care and treatment
learn how to manage living with HIV
learn how to avoid infecting others
All HIV counselling and testing must be confidential, must provide pre and post test counselling and must take place with the consent of the person being tested. No one can be tested against their will.
HIV testing is available at many government facilities that have ICTCs and is free of cost.
Discussions and Frequently Asked Questions
------------------------------------------------------------------
Why should counselling and testing be confidential?
Key Response: Families and communities should insist on and support confidential HIV testing, counselling and information. Confidentiality helps protect children, adolescents and adults from experiencing stigma, discrimination, exclusion and isolation. ICTC counsellors are trained to maintain confidentiality. If you get tested and the counsellor sees you on the street- they are trained to not speak with you unless you initiate the contact.
Where can I get the HIV test and is it expensive?
Key Response: HIV testing is available at many government facilities that have ICTCs and is free of cost. Their counsellors are trained to keep things confidential.
