One of the backyard wildlife creatures that has surprised me the most, chipmunks have a high degree of distinct personalities, memories, and observational ability - not to mention an affinity for human company. I still question whether they're genuinely wild or a species tamed as pets in antiquity and simply turned feral for a few hundred years. The literature calls them "solitary", but they clearly have a wide social hierarchy and forage in small family groups.
This looks a lot like me on Thanksgiving Day...! I love the one time he turns around and stares straight at the camera and sits for just a few minutes. Like he's resting for the next go-round! Or he's thinking, "do you ever get the feeling that somebody's watching you...?" Happy Thanksgiving to you & Yours BB!
During winter, these 'munks must cosy up in their burrows and watch a lot of tv.....while eating pop corn! Just sayin'. We have a few 'munks in the back and the CFS (chief food storer) of them is a dude called Toulousse. He must have taken about 18 kilos of sunflower seeds and a pot full of nuts for his digs. At that rate, an impoverished me might have to beg food and lodging from him during this winter.
My wife won't let the cat outside so I have to take care of the chipmunks myself. The 30-06 was WAY overkill as was the AR although it was much faster than the bolt action and the 30 round magazines empty fast when trying to hit such a small target at a distance. So I settled for my Ruger 10/22 got a bunch of 25 round mags and a scope. I get about 10 to 12 per day.
I notice the cob on this is red but the previous one is white. What if there was a fight between the chipmunk and the crow for food? Only 1 bird turned up at the end when it had been picked clean.
What are you located (general location, not exact!). I just found your channel and subscribed. Someday when I have a back yard like this I would love to do the same thing
Because their nervous systems are hyper-accelerated compared to ours. They do everything faster, they HEAR faster than us, and speed is their primary defense. They're amazing creatures.
One of our favorites!

It's all fun and games, until they SPOT THE CAMERA!
Are you guys on the West Coast? The Chipmunks looks a different color than here
I'm not BB, but apparently he is from Florida, not sure if that is West Coast as I don't live in the States.

😊
how come they move so fast as if they are nervous?
Cuz they are prey to a variety of animals, they are nervous, or hyper alert
Bacause of crows, ravens, eagles, n big bird from sesame street
Because they’re small and lowest on the food chain
Because their nervous systems are hyper-accelerated compared to ours. They do everything faster, they HEAR faster than us, and speed is their primary defense. They're amazing creatures.
@@coolmanph Not quite lowest! Like most omnivores, they are opportunistic predators when they need to be. 🐿🐿🐿
SALLY acorn
So where is the STUPID CAT?
