UPDATE!!! - Hey, I wanted to add something we learned after. Also, huge shout out to Hardware Unboxed for the additional analysis. We have an updated review coming later but game uplift is actually closer to 5% and in our rush to finish the review on time we did choose titles that were more Zen biased. Also, when comparing this chip against the 7700 (just for gaming) you may have a better more economical option versus the 9700x. For SFF builds that do productivity and gaming you need to decide if the boost is worth it.

the numbers you pull are holy mother missleading - can you crawl deeper into AMDs behind?
in gaming i have seen 9700x pulling 170+ watts and yours stays under 100w? - this review should be alarming to everyone watching - this is 100% bought or hardcore fanboy of AMD

Nice review less power and less heat sounds great. Can save some money on power supply, cooling and still have good temperatures. Also you wont need the most expensive motherboard with lower TDP and PPT. That means less thermal throttling and less performance loss because of heat and power delivery.

  • @burnsyd17

Kinda crazy how much more positive this review is versus the "consensus". And with the numbers to back up that enthusiasm. Makes me wonder what's driving the massive disparity in conclusions.

Full of what? We actually share out data publicly so you can verify the information yourself and you can ask for screenshots of any of the data in question we capture everything. We stand by our review of how the 9700x when it comes to SFF and gaming is a good option, but it's specific. I think the fact that we highlight the good instead of the bad it just counter to TH-cam culture. We show the data so people can make informed decisions and try not to just get clicks by pooping all over products. There are people this is good for, and we want them to be able to see the information without a bunch of flourishes.

    • @Berserkism
      @Berserkism 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Laziness and confirmation bias. Steve from Gamers Nexus likes to complain, it's his whole thing, negative clickbait. There are plenty of reviews that shine a light on who is a negative clickbaiter and who is actually investigating the 9 series. Scatterbencher makes Steve look stupid. Leo from Kitguru had no issues getting everything running well and likes the chip. Hardware Unboxed is another one of these negative feeding clickbait thumbnail sites that know that negative takes drive clicks. You should avoid both Steve's, competitively disingenuous at best and arrogant.

One of my biggest beefs with CPU reviews is when a conclusion is based primarily on the new versus the prior. OF COURSE it never makes sense to upgrade one gen to the next within a socket gen, that's just dumb. Nor can a new gen EVER compare on a "value" scale to the prior.

I will be using my pc for gaming and starting to teach myself coding. I also plan to run virtual machines on it as well. Is this cpu great for these tasks or should I go for the ryzen 9 7900 non-X? It is just that the ryzen 9 7900 non-X is not as good in gaming as the ryzen 7 9700X or the 7700X which is holding me back for about $100 more than the 7700X.

And there you have it, you're the only person on the planet who is excited for this total flop of a cpu. Yes, you can pay 40% more for a cpu that runs at lower power and no gain in performance over the 7700X (okay maybe 3% +or- depending on title). The only reason I clicked on this video was it had the word "Build" in it, and I thought, "someone's actually going to build with this"? The 7700 and the 7700X are both still a much better deal. I'm building my new machine today with the 7800X3D so I really don't care.

Excited for the SFF potential. To be clear we also said it was only good at one to two core and above 1080p CPUs don’t matter as much (and gaming was impressive). I think you are so used to overly negative reviews that when you find something more balanced it seems insane. There are good things about this chip, is it what the rumors suggested no, but for new builders especially SFF or EU this is a solid option even over the 7800x3D. Also this is why people should wait for independent reviews because 9 times out of 10 reality doesn’t measure up.

Look there is stuff to appreciate about these chips and for new builders especially in the SFF space this is probably your best option. I hate that liking something for the options it provides just because other people don't and didn't look at it from the same angle is bad. TBH tech is not one size fits all.

@@robeytech No one and I mean no one wants to trade performance for efficiency. It's never a good thing otherwise we would all be running Celeron's, and sure a little trade off will be OK in some applications but performance is the driving force behind this discipline, even for space projects.
AMD reduced the current draw on these processors to achieve a desired efficiency at the expense of performance which is not going to sit well in this community, however these processors will perform if the power is increases. Shrinking the process does not mean more efficiency, it's actually the opposite. given the dielectric material that separates these transistors is becoming thinner the voltage must be reduced to keep leakage to a reasonable level.
I believe we have pretty much reached the end of this fab structure and a new method is necessary which Intel is on the forefront of along with TSMC manufacturing.
AMD was not truthful about the performance of these CPU's...

Just go with the 7700x or 7700, save money. It's not gonna make a single difference. You guys are hyping up a CPU which is a rebrand of something that it's already there

It depends on the lenses. As a new builder, especially for SFF and in some ways EU this is a good chip given its heat and efficiency. If you Ryzen 7000 or on more modern hardware there isn't anything that warrants an upgrade or moving away from the 7800x3d.

now compare it to the 7800x3D tho...
I have a 5800X3D and considered waiting for this. After getting alot of info on this I realize I wasted time waiting and now will pull trigger on the 7800X3D. Only real CPU power I need is 3D print slicing and gaming. The 9 series are turning out to be a pretty big flop for me.
