This part of the game was such a fuckup. Couldn't make the TRex to run into spikes, it was stuck in one corner of the map, just bugged out, and I was shooting at him around 5 to 10 minutes, then it died. Letdown part from this game. Happy got over with this.
@@parcelasedam8266 You did it the hard way! I played this game 10 years ago and am replaying it after all this time. It's not so difficult if you time everything right but it can be frustrating for sure. You only have to get it to hit two sets of spikes.
Easiest way to kill it If you have not full control on lara's position then leave this method to kill it Just set the position of lara and this animal in sach a way that animal face should be toword rocks and lara should be under this animal between gaps of legs. Mind it that give it more time the life of animal will decrease keep shooting but whenever the first line of life of animal is just to complete stop shooting otherwise it got furious and kill lara. So when you stop shooting it tries to way back so shoot on his mouth so that it cannot come back💖but it should be keep in mind that before competing first line of life you have to stop shooting 10 second By the passing of time its life decrease and at the end result would be death of this animal💪💪💪 100% work Plz steela love my comment and pin it. I tend to watch the videos for this game for nostalgia. I have to say your walkthrough for the original TR game was first class though, and something I still use today in my attempts to finish it with pistols only, no save crystals, all items, secrets and kills, and no medi paks. I've done everything thus far, apart from the non-use of medipaks, I swear it's nigh on impossible! Still one of my favourite ever games though, if not my favourite.
I'm new to this game and playing with a laptop was so hard to find the exact moment to make the dodge. But I found out that once the rage bar is charged you gotta keep the "combat mode" on which in my case was the right click of the mouse. You gotta point the target until the t-rex come, then move and quickly press dodge. Took me days and saw many many complains about this in forums, it wasn't the best execution for a pc game. I just thought I should let you know if you find yourself stuck like me. Thank you for the video it was really helpful !
Julian Aguirre Combat Mode is actually a setting under Options, which can be adjusted in a few different ways. I think what you're looking for is Target Lock or Aim. That is the right mouse button, L1 ( PlayStation controller), or LT (Xbox controller). In any case, you're right. You do need to continue to aim without shooting in order for the adrenaline dodge to work. And I'm glad the video was helpful. Thanks for letting me know. :)
I know it's been 6yrs but just gotta say this comment saved my ass. Watched a bunch of tutorials but I never had the target come up and no one was explaining that, turned out holding RM to keep the aim up was what did it. Thanks random commenter
This is first video of yours I've seen but it's by far the #1 best walkthrough I've ever watched. The breaking it down in slow motion and presenting it the way you did is very good for learning, which is why we're all here. Good teaching skills, in the future if I need help, you'll be my go to. Recently started playing this again for notalgia's sake and this boss battle is no easier. I'm sure it wasn't supposed to be this hard. I don't remember later bosses or even the final boss being anywhere near this difficult. Distance from the spiked logs appears to be critical. Even on the worn grass area, too close or too far from the spiked log and T-rex won't collide with it. It's frustrating as hell trying to get him lined up while your aim is locked, time your adrenaline dodge, then watch it take no damage because you're a fraction too close or too far. It's poor design to make players rage quit this early in a game.
It's all about the timing. I try to describe it in the video, but maybe check the written walkthrough with screenshots as well. That's linked in the video description. Taking a break probably wouldn't hurt either. It's easy to get worked up, especially with the loud, dramatic music. Definitely turn that down a little if you haven't already. It's just a matter of practice and getting the timing right. Good luck! :)
I know it's 13 years later but you actually saved me, I spent too long dying to this boss because I missed that to activate the slowmo you had to KEEP AIMING, I was dodging on time but it wasn't activating the quick time event. Thanks!

Yesterday I bought the classic tomb raiders of Core Design, I could barely run the first 3 games, after I saw you're technical support on youre website 1 now works wonderfull with everything sound, video, better graphics everything! I am still working on the other 2. The games have all been a childhood memory of mine and I've never been happier over a game purchase. And I have never completed neither one, thou I've played all.
I'm not sure what to tell you that isn't already in the video and the written walkthrough linked in the description. Target lock is Right Mouse Button/G on the PC, L1 on PlayStation, D-Pad Up on the PSP, LT on the Xbox and Z on the Wii. How it works exactly depends on which combat mode you have set in the Options menu. I recommend Advanced Hold for the boss fights, but check the notes in the video if you need more info. Good luck!
I gave up with the whole dodge and head shot technique. I found a boulder just to the right of the one single spikey log structure. It has a plant on top. I run around and jump up on the boulder. TRex follows me but stops and just looks at me. I stand still on the boulder and continue to fire for 12 minutes, keeping his rage meter down. Eventually he dies and I get past it.
Yes, there are a few "safe spots," some of which I mention in my written walkthrough, which is linked from the video description. The only problem with this strategy is that with the later, more difficult bosses (the Centaurs, Natla), you'll need the adrenaline dodge, since there are no reliable safe areas. So I always recommend trying to master it. Otherwise getting through the rest of the game will be more of a challenge.
I did that instead of the whole dodge bullshit. No matter how many times I tried, even with this and a few other walk throughs, I just couldn't do it. So either I'm inept or the game is buggy (probably the former; my reaction time sucks). Your approach was tedious as hell, but it worked much better in the end.
OMG! Thank you so much! Between not recalling how to do the crouch dodging and the PC glitches where the dumb t-rex would get stuck, I was losing my mind.
Unless it's some kind of glitch, the red circle with the line through it is the signal you've pressed the wrong button or the right button too soon or too late. Bashing keys may be what's causing it. You need to press the correct button just when the icon appears on screen. If you're not seeing the icons, check the footnote in the written walkthrough (linked in the video description) for some possible solutions. Good luck!

thank you thank you thank you. I have tried so many times and failed. After looking up several comments and videos on how to use the adrenaline dodge, this was the only help i found and was able to defeat the t rex in a minute.
Oh it's the damn target lock!!! Okay you get that by shooting once or twice in slow-mo. Also important is having enough distance for dodging. Thank you very much man
It took me 5 days to learn this dodge thing but it finally worked. Here's how you can learn it in 10 mins. 1st - Spend 5 mins practicing the following technique. Don't concentrate on beating the dinosaur concentrate on practicing the technique. Keep shooting the t-rex until it charges at you. At that time make sure you're holding the right mouse button. If you release the right mouse button it won't work. With the right mouse button still pressed use either the right or left directional to make Lara go either left or right as the dinosaur is still charging at you. At this time you should have the right mouse button pressed and the right or left directional button pressed. Still with those two buttons pressed (as the t rex approaches) click shift, then Lara will dodge. This is the hardest part but you still have to wait for the right moment to shoot the t-rex. Practice the technique above until you master it. Don't focus on killing the T-Rex, focus on learning the technique. Now since you've mastered the technique above, and you can get Lara to the point where she will be dodging the T-Rex, wait until the two circles merge and become red, that's when you should click the left mouse button to shoot the t-rex. At this point I believe the only button that is still pressed is the Right Mouse Button and the Left Mouse Button obviously since you're shooting the t-rex. Practice this technique until you master it. Now concentrate on applying the two previously taught techniques one after the other while being with your back straightly aligned to one of those three spike structures. Once you do what I just explained you will dodge the t-rex and it will hit the spikes, thus taking one third of it's life power.

I remember doing this for my mom when I was a kid because she found it too difficult. I was 9 year old and just spent 30 minutes shooting at it with the little guns while she was at work. 10/10 would recommend

my favourite game i played this when i was 7 (VERY long time ago,) and i just could not do it! i got there in the end tho took me like 3 hours I think- and i thought i would try it again a few months ago i watched this video before doing the battle and boom! i got it first try thank you so much for the help!🥰

My little sister finally got it to work for me she had to press an up arrow or something but now every time we play it they appear. But thank you so much for replying to help me. I played TR1 ofc so I had an Idea of what was coming but when I ran into him again I was a noob and didn't get him to run into any of the logs.. I gunned him with the pistols.. I wont tell you how long it took XD after reading your Walkthrough I found out how to do it properly lol You've been a great help to me though my raiding thank you so much

I'm not sure what to suggest. If you're not sure about the exact controls for the system you're playign on, there's a link in the video description to my main site, which has more info, a step-by-step breakdown, and screenshots of each step. Let me know what part isn't working for you and which system you're using, and I'll try and come up with some advice.
There are a few suggestions for this glitch in the written walkthrough (linked in the video description). Most apply to PC but maybe the one where you repeatedly pause and resume the cut scene might work. In the PC game, this can cause the icons to appear so you can press the correct buttons and move on. Hope that helps. :)
Sierra Everhart Shoot at the T-Rex until it becomes enraged. You'll see it Roar. Continue to hold LT to keep weapons drawn and pointed at the target, but stop shooting. Wait until the screen blurs and the T-Rex charges. Then, while still holding LT, move in any direction with the left stick and simultaneously press B to dodge. You should then see the targeting reticles converge on the T-Rex's head as shown in the video. When they overlap and you hear a ding, then fire with RT.
There are a few tips (including bug notes and work-arounds) in the written walkthrough linked in the video description. I'd encourage you to check that out.
I got past this boss the other way that takes like 15min. If you just shoot it until it rages then dodge its charge you'll lose the little notch instead of the big chunk... so much time consumed. I looked this up to see the "correct" method of defeating it, lol.

Stella's Tomb Raider Site It's definitely a terrifying game but the atmosphere and gameplay make it far more than just a dull splatter game. It has tons of great puzzles and a fantastic soundtrack. - Give it a try! ;)

Having a cut scene for the T-Rex was a bad move from the game designers. What was the shock factor in the original game is that you don't expect the T-Rex coming you are just running down a valley and you hear these pounding footsteps and next thing you know a T-Rex appears out of nowhere. Possibly my favourite gaming moment as a kid, as I didn't know it was coming.
P.S. Right mouse button should also work for target lock, and your Combat Mode setting affects how the button press or press-and-hold works. That is also described in the written walkthrough.
Are you following the instructions? It's very important that you keep a target lock but don't shoot until Lara dodges and you see the targeting reticules come together. If you aren't getting the PC controls from the video, I'd recommend reading the written version linked in the description. It breaks it down step by step with the exact keys you need to press and when.
@mrsamjam1999 This video shows the PC version. The default controls are Right Mouse Button or G (Target Lock) + A/S/D (movement) + Left Shift (crouch)...Left Mouse Button (fire). it loses like 33% of its health with each log so it's possible that it needs extra shots to finish off after destroying all 3 logs. So it doesn't QUITE lose a third each time.

I'm glad the vid was useful. Once you get through this rough bit, there's so much more fun ahead. But you will need that adrenaline dodge for future bosses, so it's good to learn it here.
I play it on PC with a controller that doesn't have all the triangle, square etc buttons, and I don't use the keyboard on my laptop so I had no idea what to do. But you mentioned to use the crouch button and HALLELUJAH! I passed it!
It works, so that's no problem. My only concern for people who do it that way is they don't learn the adrenaline dodge early on. It's much harder to master with later bosses where hide-and-shoot is not an option. I wish you luck, though. :)
He was very hard to beat. I continually fired on him as well as ...the second he roars his head back, I dart off to the side & reposition myself & do it again, and again & again & finally wear him down as well as a few good crashes into the concrete helps a lot too.

aaahhhh. I've been tackling this for days now using all you recommendations, but I can't get it. when I hit crouch, she puts her weapons away. I hear the noise like the dodge is ready, but I hit crouch (shift) and I no longer can shoot. I'm sooo frustrated!!
A couple of ideas.... First, do you have the Combat Mode set on Manual (in the Options menu) and are you holding Target Lock and NOT shooting to keep Lara's guns trained on the T. rex as he charges? The combat mode isn't crucial, but it helps. It's a complicated combo, especially if you're using the keyboard instead of a controller, but you need to hold Target Lock (to keep Lara's weapons aimed at the enemy), and move to the Left or Right, but DON'T SHOOT yet. Then as she's moving to the side with weapons aimed, press Crouch. That should trigger the bit with the slow-motion and the converging reticles. Then, wait a moment for the reticles to meet and you'll hear the "ding." That's when you press Fire.
Thanks for the video. I love tomb raider for the exploration, hate it for the controls during fights. The camera is just awful, there is like 3 shoulder buttons for the gun alone (didn't even knew I had to use L1 for something because L2 was already assigned to aiming without shooting) and I love that the end of the fight is a quick time event.
I'm on ps2, it only has one cross hair thing. I couldn't run him into the "logs" though. I just ran flipped flopped and jumped around emptying clip after clip until he died. Didn't count but I bet it took 500+ shots. All I have is the starter gun though, I got 12g rounds and 50 val clips but no guns for em yet dk if I missed em or what.
I am so stupid, I remember looking at those spikes wondering what they do... ps could you help my about something? I keep trying desperately to find the last artifact in Croft Manor but i am unable. I know i can find out easly, but i just dont wanna spoil the moment. Could you give me a hint about the 8th very well hidden artifact in? Ive searched evey stone, paining, vase in the wall.
@wShutupx You mean the first time? Yes it did. Part of that was trying to use keyboard and mouse to learn the adrenaline dodge. With a little practice and an Xbox controller plugged into the computer, it's not so bad, though.

thank you thank you thank you. I have tried so many times and failed. After looking up several comments and videos on how to use the adrenaline dodge, this was the only help i found and was able to defeat the t rex in a minute.

Okay you get that by shooting once or twice in slow-mo.
Also important is having enough distance for dodging.

It took me 5 days to learn this dodge thing but it finally worked. Here's how you can learn it in 10 mins. 1st - Spend 5 mins practicing the following technique. Don't concentrate on beating the dinosaur concentrate on practicing the technique. Keep shooting the t-rex until it charges at you. At that time make sure you're holding the right mouse button. If you release the right mouse button it won't work. With the right mouse button still pressed use either the right or left directional to make Lara go either left or right as the dinosaur is still charging at you. At this time you should have the right mouse button pressed and the right or left directional button pressed. Still with those two buttons pressed (as the t rex approaches) click shift, then Lara will dodge. This is the hardest part but you still have to wait for the right moment to shoot the t-rex.
Practice the technique above until you master it. Don't focus on killing the T-Rex, focus on learning the technique.
Now since you've mastered the technique above, and you can get Lara to the point where she will be dodging the T-Rex, wait until the two circles merge and become red, that's when you should click the left mouse button to shoot the t-rex. At this point I believe the only button that is still pressed is the Right Mouse Button and the Left Mouse Button obviously since you're shooting the t-rex. Practice this technique until you master it.
Now concentrate on applying the two previously taught techniques one after the other while being with your back straightly aligned to one of those three spike structures. Once you do what I just explained you will dodge the t-rex and it will hit the spikes, thus taking one third of it's life power.

I remember doing this for my mom when I was a kid because she found it too difficult. I was 9 year old and just spent 30 minutes shooting at it with the little guns while she was at work. 10/10 would recommend

No problem. I'm glad the video helped. The game gives you a very brief tutorial, but it's easy to skip it. Then by the time the first boss comes along, most people have forgotten all about it. Good luck with the rest of the game. :)

There are a few suggestions for this glitch in the written walkthrough (linked in the video description). Most apply to PC but maybe the one where you repeatedly pause and resume the cut scene might work. In the PC game, this can cause the icons to appear so you can press the correct buttons and move on. Hope that helps. :)

Sierra Everhart Shoot at the T-Rex until it becomes enraged. You'll see it Roar. Continue to hold LT to keep weapons drawn and pointed at the target, but stop shooting. Wait until the screen blurs and the T-Rex charges. Then, while still holding LT, move in any direction with the left stick and simultaneously press B to dodge. You should then see the targeting reticles converge on the T-Rex's head as shown in the video. When they overlap and you hear a ding, then fire with RT.
There are a few tips (including bug notes and work-arounds) in the written walkthrough linked in the video description. I'd encourage you to check that out.

I got past this boss the other way that takes like 15min. If you just shoot it until it rages then dodge its charge you'll lose the little notch instead of the big chunk... so much time consumed.
I looked this up to see the "correct" method of defeating it, lol.

Having a cut scene for the T-Rex was a bad move from the game designers. What was the shock factor in the original game is that you don't expect the T-Rex coming you are just running down a valley and you hear these pounding footsteps and next thing you know a T-Rex appears out of nowhere. Possibly my favourite gaming moment as a kid, as I didn't know it was coming.
P.S. Right mouse button should also work for target lock, and your Combat Mode setting affects how the button press or press-and-hold works. That is also described in the written walkthrough.
Are you following the instructions? It's very important that you keep a target lock but don't shoot until Lara dodges and you see the targeting reticules come together. If you aren't getting the PC controls from the video, I'd recommend reading the written version linked in the description. It breaks it down step by step with the exact keys you need to press and when.
@mrsamjam1999 This video shows the PC version. The default controls are Right Mouse Button or G (Target Lock) + A/S/D (movement) + Left Shift (crouch)...Left Mouse Button (fire). That's provided you haven't changed any controls. Formore info, follow the links in the video description. The written walkthrough includes details about this particular fight, and the controls list includes step-by-step written instructions for all systems. Good luck and raid on!
it loses like 33% of its health with each log so it's possible that it needs extra shots to finish off after destroying all 3 logs. So it doesn't QUITE lose a third each time.

I'm glad the vid was useful. Once you get through this rough bit, there's so much more fun ahead. But you will need that adrenaline dodge for future bosses, so it's good to learn it here.
I play it on PC with a controller that doesn't have all the triangle, square etc buttons, and I don't use the keyboard on my laptop so I had no idea what to do. But you mentioned to use the crouch button and HALLELUJAH! I passed it!
Its not necessary to shoot when that overlapping thing happens, it will work if you dodge only also

It works, so that's no problem. My only concern for people who do it that way is they don't learn the adrenaline dodge early on. It's much harder to master with later bosses where hide-and-shoot is not an option. I wish you luck, though. :)
He was very hard to beat. I continually fired on him as well as ...the second he roars his head back, I dart off to the side & reposition myself & do it again, and again & again & finally wear him down as well as a few good crashes into the concrete helps a lot too.
I remember when I was 11 years old and played this game for the first time and I didn't know how to kill this boss and I found this tutorial, now I'm 23 years old, I still love Lara Croft and I remembered this video 🥲 how nostalgic

aaahhhh. I've been tackling this for days now using all you recommendations, but I can't get it. when I hit crouch, she puts her weapons away. I hear the noise like the dodge is ready, but I hit crouch (shift) and I no longer can shoot. I'm sooo frustrated!!
A couple of ideas.... First, do you have the Combat Mode set on Manual (in the Options menu) and are you holding Target Lock and NOT shooting to keep Lara's guns trained on the T. rex as he charges? The combat mode isn't crucial, but it helps.
It's a complicated combo, especially if you're using the keyboard instead of a controller, but you need to hold Target Lock (to keep Lara's weapons aimed at the enemy), and move to the Left or Right, but DON'T SHOOT yet. Then as she's moving to the side with weapons aimed, press Crouch. That should trigger the bit with the slow-motion and the converging reticles. Then, wait a moment for the reticles to meet and you'll hear the "ding." That's when you press Fire.

Thanks for the video. I love tomb raider for the exploration, hate it for the controls during fights. The camera is just awful, there is like 3 shoulder buttons for the gun alone (didn't even knew I had to use L1 for something because L2 was already assigned to aiming without shooting) and I love that the end of the fight is a quick time event.

I'm on ps2, it only has one cross hair thing. I couldn't run him into the "logs" though. I just ran flipped flopped and jumped around emptying clip after clip until he died. Didn't count but I bet it took 500+ shots. All I have is the starter gun though, I got 12g rounds and 50 val clips but no guns for em yet dk if I missed em or what.

@wShutupx You mean the first time? Yes it did. Part of that was trying to use keyboard and mouse to learn the adrenaline dodge. With a little practice and an Xbox controller plugged into the computer, it's not so bad, though.
