    The recipe works. It took about 18 hrs for my yogurt to get tangy when left out on the counter, overnight. The brand I used ("Native", green can) got very thick when refrigerated (if anyone has every tried Siggy's Triple Cream yogurt - it's as thick as that). Consistency was little grainy but, overall, a perfect substitute for dairy yogurt. I tried another TH-camr's recipe for coconut which required more steps and arrowroot flower that did not turn out well. Joy's recipe is fast and I got the consistency I needed.

      Follow up: for some reason, the Native Forest Simple coconut milk no longer separates when I refrigerate it. The water and cream stay mixed. I’ll try the Cha’s brand.

    Thanks for the recipe. You'd better use a wooden spoon as probiotics could react at the touch of metal. The same goes for dairy yogurt, you can easily see it when the left over yogurt gets watery.

    All coconuts are organic so don't be fooled with the word Organic. I am talking about fresh coconut. Coconut grow on very tall trees and the coconut water and flesh is found in the hard shell and covered with a thick husk. It's not easy to get it out. I used a machete to crack it open but these days I use a chopper.

I have been experiencing stomach problems too so I might get some of these probiotics (telling this is not in Google dictionary). They have one with 15 billion and other with 50 billion, and women's stuff which I do not need. Not sure of the difference other than strength?

      It cultures better with a bit of sugar, but it will culture some without. For Tangier yogurt with more bacteria, add a spoon or two of a sugar sweetner, like cane sugar, coconut sugar, honey, or maple syrup. It will also culture better if you heat the mix to 110° first, then add the probiotics.

    Seriously though, Thank you very much for this recipe and I ordered everything that you demonstrated. I even found organic, gluten free, gum free and sugar-free coconut cream and then I bought the advanced gut health/probiotic with 50 billion CFU made by genuine health and I am excited and really looking forward to making this fantastic coconut yogurt.
    Due to health reasons I had to go vegan and on a special diet which does not allow me to have any kind of sugar, dairy or eggs. Bummer! I really liked eggs and I've always included yogurt in my daily diet for acidophilus, others and just a balanced gut.
    One day when I was staying in Ventura California, I went to a Vons grocery store and found the most delicious coconut yogurt made by a company called "Cocojune" but very expensive and it was of course gum, gluten and sugar free, but it cost $9.85 per carton, but nevertheless since I can't have dairy anymore, I bought several of them and brought them back home and within a couple weeks they were all gone.
    Finding your video within this timeframe was perfect and so if your yogurt is as delicious as you make it sound, this will be my forever yogurt👍👍. Thanks again!

    Can you use freshly squeezed coconut milk?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Well coconut isn't technically squeezed from anything - you take the dried coconut and soak it in water to make coconut milk and then blitz it up. So you could make coconut kefir since you'd be starting with a liquid base. It would be delicious!

    It’s important to use a wooden or plastic spoon when mixing in probiotic. Metal interferes with probiotic

      @joyoushealth  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the tip! I have heard of this but from my experience, I've found it doesn't impact it a great amount.

    • @joyoushealth

      Again I don't find it impacts it a huge amount. You have to pick your battles :) But if you want to optimize the amount of probiotics in it, you can use a wooden spoon!

    If you think those strawberries are great, you should taste and see the ones we get here in Norway. They are much darker red all the way through and the flavor is soooooo much stronger. Appearantly strawberries get sweeter and more flavorful in colder climates... Only downside is that the season is short... We really enjoy it though (and use imported ones the rest of the year)... 😊

      I don't think the probiotics from Genuine Health are sold in Hawaii but you can use the retail locator over here as you may be able to order them online: www.genuinehealth.com/where-to-buy/

    You should be able to seed some of the first batch of yogurt into a new batch, the probiotics will continue to work it will save having to use the capsules every time, I have done this making normal yogurt and Kefir many times, though I havnt tried it with coconut yet

    Hi, I make coconut milk yogurt last night with fresh coconut milk. And I used starter from homemade yogurt plain, but I have a problem when I left my coconut yogurt about 8 hours. There's a water in the bottom, water and yogurt are separate. My yogurt not thickened. Should I strain the yogurt?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can totally strain it if you want. This happens to me too. The Hong with yogurt and bacteria is that you made end up with a slightly different result every time you make it based on the temp and humidity in your home, the probiotic culture you’re using etc The main thing is it tastes good!
