thanks for this video, Im coming to the Bouzouki from the Seagull Merlin Dulcimer(tuned DADD) so the Bouzoukis (GGDDAADD) makes alot of sense but is still intimidating for a non musician. this video gave me some confidence that the modal chords im used to still apply in many ways!
Very good lesson, thank you for sharing that with me. I have recently bought an Irish Bouzouki and just getting used to the tuning (G,D,A,D) and finding it a bit tricky as I've been playing the guitar for over 15 years but it's just a matter of time and practice to get used to it. I appreciate videos like these, it's helpful as another thing I really wanted to see was the way someone else rests the instrument on their knee as the shape to the Bouzouki body is more rounded.
I have a Octave Mandolin can I take these Irish Bouzouki lessons to learn how to play it? I have been told that a Octave Mandolin is basically a short scale bouzouki, is that true?

He's not saying 'chords' he's saying 'course'. On a stringed musical instrument a course is either a single string or two strings situated next to each other. So when he says 'D course' he's referring to the D string/s. Hope that helps.
Good to see new bouzouki videos posted! Just dusted off my zouk need to relearn mostly everything!
This give me hope that one day I can actually play well in a session with a bouzouki

why do you call strings chords? dont you know the difference?

A course is a set of two strings strung together and tuned the same. Mandolins and bouzoukis and intruments like that have courses.
