What does "terms of art" mean in "plain meaning" and "statutory interpretation? If a "plain meaning" means they follow the statute definition, then do "terms of art" follow the canons of construction and is therefore not "plain meaning"? This terms completely confused me, and I need a dumbed down explanation? An example given by my instructor was "Malice Aforethought." How does a judge or court use "plain meaning" and "terms of art" together if the statute is unambiguous? Isn't that counterintuitive? Thank you in advance.
