He just doesn't accept strangers, it's part of the breed, he was heavily socialised and I've worked with many working guard breeds, a few different blood lines as well which do vary greatly

Some write that the Ysterberg Mastiff is a Boerboel bloodline that existed in the early 1940s in South Africa. Bred by Klaas van Waveren before the Boerboel was officially recognized, the Ysterberg has been described the oldest living bloodline in Boerboel history.
Ysterburg mastiffs and boerboels have zero stb blood in them. The piebald look, which is what you're referring to, is very rare. That trait most likely came from bulldog blood lines used in it's early development. Moreover, these two breeds are perhaps the only remaining working line of mastiff alive today. Their bloodline represents the legacy of a number of different mastiff and bulldog working breeds that no longer exists. Just about every other mastiff breed in their ancestry was bred down to be lap dogs, with only a few being the exception.
Saint Bernard and Great Dane has been used in the Boerboel. What if a farmer had a pure Boerboel female, but the closest Boerboel male was 100 km away and they didn't have cars, internet etc (around 1930) ? Then the Saint Bernard, Great Dane or Ridgeback male from the neighbours was used as stud and then selecting on performance. Same in Europe. If someone had a German Shorthaired Pointer female but there was no stud available, they used the show Irish Setter or Gordon Setter from their village, that's how the Munsterlander was born
