    As a bowler I listen to the mechanical drop to know when the deck is coming down. Sometimes waiting seeing the sweep I’m hoping the machine doesn’t have an issue. But as soon as I hear that clunk I’m ready to roll. Love love love the sounds of those Brunswick’s.

    How I miss working on A2s...Even just pinchasing (eons ago) was an absolute blast! Curse you, advancing age. 😆

    My local bowing center has Brunswick pinsetters that have the classic A2 sheild, but run on Jetback speed, which I think is *perfect.* Nothing too slow to make me wait too long in between shots, nothing too fast that'll potentially damage the machine itself. It's nice to have that right-in-between zone. :)

      @GarageBowlingAlley  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed. Jetback speed is the best of both worlds.

    We have converted A’s and A2’s, they usually run in between the A2 speed and the Jetblack’s speed shown in your video. Some faster than others, some slower really just depends on the lane.

    As a kid all the Brunswicks I bowled on were jetback speed, it's always been my preference. A speed is just too slow mainly during practice time for league or tourney ppl are always bowling before the rake is even up to get some shots in. Sloc's has run full A2 speed for as long as even my boss remembers, if maintained it's fine (also being older machines like yours they were MUCH better made). I was trying to slow them down to jetback just before I fell ill and had to stop working, the owner was fully on board with it, great guy always, when I was a customer and even moreso as an employee. There was a video on here from BrunsAce (bowltech nickname) where he cycled a pair together, one at "A" speed and the other at jetback, I believe it's still on here. Cool vid as always!! :)

      I'm wanting someone to get a video of the Japanese A-2 speed pulley running at 60 Hz, now that one is crazy fast(but not as insane as an A-2 pulley running on a 27:1 gearbox).

      I agree. Most of the Brunswick centers I bowled at were Jet back speed.

    Back in the 1960s bowling was very big, Each center tried to run 3 leagues each night normally 4.30PM 6.45PM ,9Pm the thinking was if we can make the pinsetter run faster we could do that. There is no point in running your pinsetter any faster then the speed that the ball is returned. Life of all the parts is much less with the faster speeds.

    • @GarageBowlingAlley
      @GarageBowlingAlley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed ! Just like smoking a brisket. Low and slooooow I can see back when you had 2 or 3 shifts of league where speed would be critical but nowadays slow that puppy down and make your gearbox last longer.

    There used to be a bowling alley in Louisville, Kentucky that had a speed that was slower than the "A" speed. From what I remember, they had to use that speed, because the machine would keep breaking down a lot. Maybe, that's why they're building is no longer there. People got tired of the waiting time for the pinsetter cycle.

      I worked as a pinchaser/mechanic B part time at a local Brunswick equipped center for about 18 years. The machines were "A"s with A2 pit cushion conversion. We always ran them at A speed. My understanding was that it was mainly the size of the motor to gearbox pulley that determined cycle speed. A smallest, Jetback larger, and A2 largest. If those machines were running slower than A speed, maybe they had some smaller pulleys custom made for that purpose.

      @@BillC518 Could of been. It was about 35 years ago, when I went bowling at a tournament there. It wasn't until recently--about 5 years--that I actually tried looking it up! It was a nice center, tho!

    Why were many A2 setters set slower? I’ve bowled on many A2s that aren’t that fast they’re more set to jet back speed. Is that done on purpose to prevent too much wear and tear?

    • @GarageBowlingAlley
      @GarageBowlingAlley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe so. A2 speed if you have multiple leagues and you’re trying to push one league out quicker but nowadays that would be a dream of most centers to have that problem. No need in wearing out rake arms and gearboxes any faster than you have to.

  • @daltondick5223
    @daltondick5223 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Always considered A2 speed quite destructive. For example on the second ball cycle it seemed that the rake was jumping as it came back forward after 180. Never liked the A2 speed because it always caused the rakes to go out faster.

      @@GarageBowlingAlley If you want to go all out find yourself a 50hz Japanese A2 pulley, they're a larger diameter to compensate for the slower motor. The Toshiba motors supplied with Japanese machines are universal voltage and were supplied with different pulleys depending on the part of the country they were sold in; as Japan has its grid split between 50 and 60 Hz.

    I try to advocate for my local alley to slow down their japanese A-2s but part of the problem is, they're understaffed in pins. Each lane has 19 at best, so you're just getting constant 180 stops if you strike frequently.

    There is no "A speed" or "Jetback speed.." there are only ratios that can be used on any of the machines. Brunswick expects that they have been slowed down by now, though not all have. The manual says nothing about "A speed" lol it talks about speed ratios.
