Help I am watching it for the first time in honor of his retirement andjfc why am I crying. The whole "I want to give happy vibes and want to be kind and energetic and passionate" part makes me cry a little. Truly the Mario of all times.
This man just oozes wisdom and kindness. I had the opportunity to meet him at a con back in 2021, and just hearing him, as Mario, talking to me, telling me, "Hey, don't be nervoose! You're numbah one!" made me well up. Not to mention taking pictures doing all the Mario poses. He really is as down-to-earth and wholesome as he appears. He stuck around for that entire day at the con, even when his autograph line was practically empty (Scott the Woz was right next to him at the end of the day and had a massive turnout) just waving and smiling to everyone.
He said that, whenever he does the voice, someone smiles. I couldn't help but smile myself when he said that I was number one at the end of the interview.

I remember Mario Teaches Typing from fifth grade and being encouraged to keep trying and wanting to do so precisely because it was Mario doing the encouraging. The same Mario I had played and helped save the Princess over and over again for years was teaching me how to type. Now, all these years later, I still look at the keyboard and don't do home row typing despite having passed a computer typing segment in a computer class in high school which emphasized those things. It featured a lame robot character called Typo who just told you what to do and when you were wrong and it didn't even have a voice, but Mario Teaches Typing was a lot more fun and I would probably do home row typing today if by the time I got to high school Nintendo had allowed more Mario Teaches Typing games to be made for more advanced typing skills, or, if the one that did make it to my school did teach typing skills like home row, I don't remember because I only got a little while with it at school on certain days, but Charles was right. Hearing "No," and "You're wrong, do it again," and all the negativity every day, even when they meant well and were being encouraging, I was used to it, I expected it, but hearing Mario say, "Congratulations! You made it!" and seeing things like Congratulations, You're A Winner felt a lot better.

I met him and got his autograph last month. I had planned to tell him that he was the voice of my childhood and playing a demo of Mario Party 7 is the earliest gaming memory I have, but once I stood in front of him I could hardly speak lol. He's just such a legend, and he is kind to everyone.
