I really like the way Garnt's criteria for the 3x3 is here. They aren't based off of critical acclaim, but what defines each person, and based off of that you can tell what kind of person they might be. It's way more interesting and fun this way.
Definitely. I think the moment critique is introduced that people start pointing to who is better because people start retaliating and then it just becomes that instead.

I couldn't believe that I was chosen and yeah despite messing up the link at first and having Imgur give me a panic attack with their warning, it was one of the most amazing things that happened to me that day. Maison Ikkoku and Macross are very dear to me and my family, especially my mother. Remember that Fruits Basket is peak romance and Mecha anime is PEAK when done right !!

- Full Metal Panic (a classic, great cast and setting, fumoffu)
- Nodame Cantabile (beautiful classical music with good romance between tsundere male lead and the "just like me frfr" female lead)
- Welcome to the NHK (life is suffering and growing as a person is solely up to you)

Macross represents one of the first anime that I obsessed over as a teenager in the 90's while Love Hina covers my early 20's. There's a sizable time jump in there as I didn't really start watching anime again until around 2018 and 2019. Chihayafuru and Katanagatari are two shows in particular that I found out about via Trash Taste. My love for We Never Learn was greatly enhanced by reading the manga as well.

I was actually really happy to get a chance and be compared to Joey, even if I ended up to be just based seinen watcher. Didn't know you could put manga tho, missed on some "you are really a Joey" parts, because i really love Pun-Pun, Berserk, Onanie Master Kurosawa, 20th Century Boys, The Climber and other psychological manga with rich visuals. And about chill person and Spice and Wolf. I adore Spice and Wolf light novels! And Aria is the anime that changed my life and my perspective on the world. It's my fav anime of all time for 10+ years already. Also forgot to put MAL here, my bet Garnt would be kinda confused if he has seen it because there's some highly rated degeneracy and I am to lazy to put all my manga in it so that part is emtpy. :D

Kinda sad he didn't analyze the "Gurren Lagann part", I honestly think that it's way more thought out than what people think, probably because it presents itself in a "dumb" way and many don't bother to scratch the surface.
Also it seems we have pretty comparable taste considering I'm loving Vinland Saga s2 and Love is War, I'm also trying to read Spice and Wolf LN but as a non native english speaker I find some difficulty because of the abundance of refined/sophisticated terms.
Anyway do you have any other LN, manga or anime that you would recommend besides the one you showed/mentioned?

It's a Masterpiece
My 3x3 would probably have AOT on it as it's the first show I watched and over the years it has turned into what I would consider a masterpiece.
Next would be Tokyo Ghoul, this is my guilty pleasure of sorts, I watched it in the early days of my anime journey and it is what got me into reading manga, the TG manga in particular was a huge part of my life for literal years and it also got me reading other great manga like Berserk.
Next up would be March Comes in Like a Lion. This show was the first step for me to start getting my life back together, I had moved away for university and it wasn't going well. I couldn't find motivation, I hardly had any friends since I would drop off the map for extended periods of time and that would make it even harder to reach out again... This show just hit so hard in a time when I was at my lowest...
Next up might be 5 centimeters per Second, it's a movie I didn't like when I first watched it, but over the years and as I've accumulated more life experiences it just gets more and more relatable as sad as that might be.
Middle spot goes to Steins;Gate, probably my favorite anime of all time, absolutely love this show. Probably one of the most cohesive and best time-travel stories of all time in any media. It is also heartbreaking to watch Okabe as the front he's put up slowly falls apart as he descends into hopelessness.
Let's keep this theme of sad shit going with Your Lie in April, my favorite of the "tearjerkers" out there. It's close with Clannad, but for me it just beats out Clannad by a hair.
Next up is Made in Abyss, I just love the entire concept and the juxtaposition of the "happy go lucky" characters and visuals of the show and the grotesque and fucked up shit that happens.
Now that's enough depression, so next is Konosuba which is probably my favorite comedy anime, although I did consider Grand Blue and Nichijou in this spot as well...
And that leads us to the last remaining spot, which goes to the one and only... Gigguks favorite anime, FMA:B. Great story, great characters, great everything.

The Haruhi TV series is still unsurpassed over 15 years later. The Monogatari Series & Tatami Galaxy are the only two anime I consider to be on the same level.
Honestly KyoAni's equivalent to Evangelion of the 2000s. Massively influential & ahead of its time yet so divisive/controversial. The public perception would've been more positive if they adapted the other 75% of the novels.
I always treat Isekai as Junk food anime, but Mushoku Tensei flipped the script or should I stay stuck to the script. Cause I always think it is very disrespectful to the World where the MC was Isekaied to just to get owned by some random dude on Earth. It's almost as if the world is made for that MC, and everything he does is justified by the world. Whereas, Mushoku Tensei said no no, you are not here to own this world, you are here to change yourself, This is your last chance.
Honestly, I just find battle series to be better junk food. Maybe it’s just me not being a fan of media junk food, because I still need interesting characters and well written stories in order to enjoy something. Like Yu Yu Hakusho is just so entertaining, that it’s really hard not to just enjoy passively, despite being excellently written.

I have deliberately not included movies since I have honestly never seen a bad Anime film. Otherwise this list would be full of only them. I have also not included other very popular shows which I also have enjoyed quite a lot but they don't hold as much of a significance for ME as the above do, such as Vinland Saga, FMAB, HunterxHunter, Gurren Lagaan, ReZero, etc.
For me, it's not good or bad anime, it's the anime that represents your love for anime.

When I see 3 X 3s like this I realise how normie my anime tastes are, there are so many of the popular underground/cultured animes that I skip and not because I have an issue with the concept of niche anime, but moreso that they mostly have story structures that can't hold my attention, maybe I'm ADD, or they have a heavy emphasis on super mean characters in the main cast that I just detest too much to keep watching the show they're in
I also have ADHD, and I totally feel not enjoying certain types of shows, and for me, I get bored as shit watching bad shows that people call “so bad, it’s good”. But I love obscure stuff, because they are so different, which catches my eye. My ADHD is also responsible for me knowing more about the history of Shonen manga more than most people.
If the art doesn't grab, it's not a fault of your own. What matters is that you like what you like.

Konosuba is the show I've watched the most, Evangelion is special to me and I watched it at just the right age to hit me hardest, Jojo for kind of being my gateway into anime, and Mobile Suit Gundam for rekindling my love of Sci-fi after the Star Wars sequel trilogy, with Gundam specifically filling in that hole for a Sci-fi franchise to dive into. The rest are just shows I greatly enjoyed. I had a bit of trouble filling in spots as manga has probably hit my harder than anime has, in general.

The more you watch the better it gets but control your expectations, people say that it's weak at first (I disagree personally). It's not just comedy, but for you to understand why gintama is so highly praised, you need to stick through because I think the "masterpiece" really comes out of the story.

I thought it was weak at first but at some point (which is different for everyone), you just start enjoying the journey. For me that point was around episode 35 and by episode 50 it became one of my favourites.

And for me, Your Name was the beginning of Mako Shinkai's decadence, when he started giving in to studio pressure and do more mainstream thing, not pure genius works like the movies before it.
