I remember when this sneaker came out around 2010, the patent leather was a crazy hype. Back then you couldnt rock sneakers with a suit, but you could rock a suit with some Lanvins. A lot of celebrity's were wearing them. The high tops were something else man, they used different materials in a very creative way. I had the lows, mid and highs. 2010 - 2014 was the all time high for those kind of Lanvin sneakers. I still own a decent amount of them. Nowadays it is a sneaker with statue / reputation, people who know nothing about it will recognize the quality and the proper propotions of the design. Im from The Netherlands and their creative director was Lucas Ossendrijver, he created that perfect sneaker. But they were popular all over the world

  • @hommedegout

I highly advice taking a look at the brand Artisan Lab if you are interested in this kind of sneaker, you will get roughly the same quality for a much smaller price.

Bought a pair of Allen Edmonds Canal Court sneakers with brown suede uppers on sale last year. They work well in setting where dress shoes are too much, but you still want to look sharp. Think garden party or casual meet up.

In terms of buying at retail, the price seems pretty steep and agree that $500 is not worth it. However, it is pretty common to see them in many department stores and on sale. Sometimes, it may show up in the off price department stores such as Nordstrom Rack (in North America). I do think if the price is around $200-300, it seems a bit reasonable. Not sure in 2023 but common to see a few years back.

    • @themoderndandy713
      @themoderndandy713 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Elaborate patterns will work depending on what you mean by "elaborate". A red and gold medallion tie would work well with many outfits, but something like a Jerry Garcia tie isn't classic at all. If it's a product of the time, forget it. That is my recommendation!

Good thoughts there, but I believe you've sold them short on the verdict.
These are one of the most elegant and refined trainers on the market. They're as versatile as that type of shoe could be. The price is quite alright as well, all things considered. We can find much more expensive sneakers on the market which hardly are better.
About your alternatives,... I just don't want to comment on these. To say they don't even come close would be a massive understatement.

@Selim Mašić I wonder how long they last when you start bleachng them!
I had a pair of Clarks once and this was the problem with them, too - they looked nice out of the box but they began to look dirty and battered very quickly (they were trashed after about 3 months).
I can't spend big money on stuff that won't last. If even if I could afford it, it seems immoral.

Kyle is a wonderful speaker with a wealth of knowledge. But he seems out of place on a channel devoted to classic clothes. He clings to the now 10 plus year-old fashion of too tight clothes, which is a terrible look for most men. Only slim men of average height can pull it off. Tall men look like they received hand-me-downs from their much younger brothers. Short guys look like they got caught in the rain on their way to preschool. And heavier guys are the worst because the overly tight clothes accentuates every additional pound and they looked stuffed in their clothes. In years to come, this style will go down as one of the worst of all times in mens' clothing. It ranks up with polyester bellbottoms on the yulk scale.

Those Langvins look like Stride Rite off-brand Chucks I had to wear when I was a kid. Glad you mentioned other options out there. Custom Chuck Taylors will achieve the same look, and tact-i-cool brands like Altama will give the understated look that some of these Langvins appear to be copying. Additionally, with brands like Altama, you have a practical shoe for non dress activity.

I know you said you wouldn't reccomend them, but how the devil could you compare them to those brown rockport horror show trainer/shoes. I think you guys are missing a trick a little here and are a touch out of touch with contemporary classic style combimations that are here to stay and have been knocking around for about 10 plus years. For trim people in their mid twenties and upwards there is a lot of sleek but classic menswear out there. I live in London and live or die by Sunspel, who now have a shop on Jermyn St. Despite being a revamped herritage brand, they really do set the bar for contemporary british style, and relieve the brits of our stuffy image, taking influence from america and europe, whilst keeping it English. They even supply the bond films. Can I strongly suggest you do a feature? All the best.

Are these sneakers worth it? Only if your income tax bracket is high enough that $500 for a pair is equivalent to $50 for regular people. And in any case, if you an afford them, so can your friends at the country or yacht club, and you won't be impressing anybody.

I can’t take this channel seriously when you’re needlessly swiping at people with a more daring taste in fashion. The “yikes” was unnecessary.

Must be the level of luxury where I've never even heard of the brand before, despite it being a century old. First impressions, it's overpriced. Secondary, preposterously overpriced. A pair of sneakers of impeccable quality would still barely cost as this much in materials if it was also fully handmade.

from experience almost no designer leather sneakers are worth their prices nor worth buying especially comfort wise, I have Balenciaga arenas, Pierre Hardy, Tiger of Sweden..etc sneakers and they all too heavy and my biggest problem is friction with toes and especially heels.. you will not be able to walk.

If I had tons of money to spend still wouldn't buy them because I simply don't like them. They look like "boredom overdone". I love my old "Le Coq Sportif"; Fresh blue and white color, some earth brown coloring here and there, €50. Done for more than a few years when wearing once or twice a week. Mine are 10 years old!

I'd rather get something very very similar looking from Ralph Lauren or Lacoste or even smaller menswear brands for around 90$. Looks exactly the same, and neither will last for decades.

I would not spend $500 for Converse look shoes

While you are on point with a some of your arguments (pricing and size policy), your review as a whole and the sneaker selection is poor at best. Your shoes all are way to beat to be paired with a jacket and it lend up looking like you tried to dress down with the sneakers you still had from your university days. In addition your comparisons/recommendations are no where near the look of the Lanvins and continues to enforce your disdain for sneakers as an alternative to dress shoes. I recommend you stick to what you are undoubtedly good at, traditional clothing for men. The spectrum towards more modern and less formal wear is clearly not to your taste and preferences. Recommending shoes with rim for a lake on top in a sneaker topic, how to you expect to be taken seriously...

I appreciate gentleman’s gazette. However, as soon as they get remotely close to anything trendy, they ruin it. I can’t tell you how out of touch they are with anything other than formal attire. There seems to be no appreciation for other styles. If you took their advice as gospel, you would be the laughing stock at 90% of social gatherings.
