      @@mikkorenvall428 Rafale is an 'improved copy' of previous Dassault aircraft.
      It would be possible to make a carrier Typhoon but only the UK and Italy in the Eurofighter consortium had carriers and these were using Harriers. Both naval air arms took the view that VSTOL-STOVL were the future and so did not require CATOBAR aircraft and carrier CATOBAR would be unnecessary. So Typhoon was developed and the later carriers were also to operate VSTOL-STOVL and that is the Elizabeth Class which is equipped with Lightning II 'F-35B' s an aircraft with a major UK component.

  • @marcusott5054

    Regarding the Mauser BK 27 vs the GE Vulcan Gatling Gun. The Mauser has 1000-1700rounds per minute and the Vulcan has~6000. But the thing is that the Vulcan needs some fractions of a second to "spool up" (get the mass of the barrels moving. So in the first second of firing the BK27 actually puts out more shots. And the first second is exactly where you need the volume of fire in air-to-air combat. It quickly reverses when the bursts get longer. Then there's also the consideration that the Vulcan needs a drum magazine where the Mauser only needs a belt. Both systems have pros and cons.

    I live near RAF Leeming in the north east close to Catterick, we get Typhoons alot overhead here and trust me THEY ARE NOT QUIET. But as a fighter enthusiast i absolutely adore the sound of them, i remember maybe 5 or 6 years back during the night a couple flew over super sonic and jesus ive never heard anything like it. I also had the pleasure of seeing Blackjack perform at Teeside Airport and we was tracking it on Flight Radar it literall came from sunderland to teeside in minutes, you forget how quick these aircraft really are.
    In terms of Aircraft carriers though i dont believe any have operated from them, they were never build with naval warfare in mind meaning the chassis and landing gear would probably be fucked if it landed on a carrier. Landing on a strip compared to a carrier is a completely different kettle of fish, strips are longer meaning planes can glide in and use up the whole runway, but carrier have short runways meaning and aircraft lands extremely hard which put alot of pressure on the airframe, not to mention the pressures from the landing cables. Typhoon would likely need a redesign in order to be carrier worthy.

    The Swedish fighter plane you are thinking of is the "JAS 39 Gripen" ("Gripen" means "Griffin" in Swedish. This mythological beast represents ¨"Vigilance, Strength and Speed").
    The "Death-Triangle" is a very European design, and I believe then trend was started by Swedish SAAB, as well. So in effect, the Eurofighter took inspiration from Swedish "Draken" and "Viggen", and some from "Gripen" (as Gripen was developed in the 90's). It can be hard to tell the difference between a Gripen, a Eurofighter, and a Rafaele (French) from certain angles, as they are all triangle-shaped. I don't know about you guys, but "Eurofighter" has to be the silliest name among modern fighter jets - should have just gone with "Typhoon"-something and called it a day.
    The part about houses shaking was and is still to some extent a pretty normal thing here in Sweden, as our airforce has round-the-clock readyness to respond to incoming threats. Them Ruskies like to violate Swedish airspace whenever they can. The main difference between the Eurofighter and the Gripen in this role would be that the Eurofighter has 2 engines, which gives it a thrust and speed boost. This is necessary for a plane operated by Britain and Germany, as they will also need to respond to threats closer to mainland Europe and the Baltics, and get there FAST.
    Gripen is a single-engine plane, built for more of a defensive role and for fast scramble to defend Sweden's borders, and the bad guys in the region always come from the east. Does not take long to intercept them, so a single-engine is cheaper to utilize.

    • @badmarshmallow9211
      @badmarshmallow9211 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don’t quote me on this one but I think the Eurofighter took most of its inspiration from the X-31 maneuverability demonstrator. It was a joint project including the Germans and Americans. The Germans clearly liked the prototype as it looks scarily similar to the Eurofighter.

    • @vicolin6126
      @vicolin6126 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@badmarshmallow9211 Thank you, did not know of that prototype.
      I should probably have included years for context in my comment, but the Swedish "J35 Draken" first flew in 1955, and basically was the first jet fighter to use canards and a double-delta wing configuration.
      This is why I said that the Eurofighter program probably looked at Swedish designs (like Viggen and Gripen later on) and then went and did their own thing with what they found and liked.
      Not an aviation historian however, so may not be correct in my thoughts.

    The triangle shape is called "Delta Wing" and the front ones are "Canards". Also comparing it to an F-18 isn't quite right - it would eat a F-18 for breakfast. The thing is that stealth wasn't one of the main concerns in design, being able to effectivley fight off russian made planes was. One downside for us germans is that it can't carry B-61 bombs so we still have the Tornado for that around. Oh, and breaking the sound barrier over a village is no joke, I had to replace two windows once because that happened right over the place where I live

    Eurofighter is halfway between an F22 and F16. It's not entirely designed for stealth, but it's only 15% metal, so it's very light and not very reflective to electromagnetic radiation like radio waves, microwaves, and infra red. It doesn't have internal stores like the F22/F35 so it's radar signature goes up when it's carrying weapons, but it makes up for this with it's IRST camera (infrared search and track) which lets it detect and fire on aircraft passively without letting them know they're being targeted, and with it's extremely advanced AESA radar and jamming systems.

    The f22 and the Eurofighter are similar in capabilities but not doctrine. The f22 prioritizes stealth to get into missile range however this is extremely expensive to achieve. On the other hand, the Eurofighter relies on an extremely powerful radar and missiles to avoid getting into range of its enemies. This is more achievable for smaller countries but is not easy to pull off by any means. The “Meteor” missiles that the Eurofighter share between some other fighters have roughly 10 to 20 percent more range than any other air to air missile which may not seem like much but it can make a massive difference. Hope u have a good day.

    This jet is most akin to modern versions of f18 and f15s. Multi roll, powerful sensor sweets, incredible maneuverability and power, but lacking the stealth of 5th gen aircraft. It is comparable to f35 in many ways but the big difference is f35 prioritized stealth while Euro fighter prioritized power and agility

    No, they weren't used on aircraft carriers as the countries that operate them don't have carriers that could launch and recover them even if the plane were designed for such a thing.

    Delta wings are suppose to give more maneuverability, but the small delta wings used on the F-22, F-35, and FA-50 prove a pure delta wing is not the best way to go. With such a fine fighter already in existence, why are Britain/Germany developing a new one?

  • @TrulyUnfortunate
    @TrulyUnfortunate 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not as fast as I would have thought when you consider the F-15's top speed is 400 mph faster and it's a relatively old plane.

    • @Ikaros---
      @Ikaros--- 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      aircraft rarely fly supersonic, let alone use their full top speed as it can only be attained using afterburners. The Eurofighter can fly supersonic for much longer than the F-15 due to super cruise capability.

    Never designed or adhoc used on carriers
    Not fitted with arrestor hook or sturdy enough undercarriage to sustain repeated carrier landings, would also require cat and trap to lauch as take off run is too long and stalling speed too high.

The original video was either wrong or has been overtaken by events as Northern Q is based at Lossiemouth - and has been since 2014. Leuchars is pronounces Lookars and Coningsby is pronounced Conn ings be.

    The F35 would not be a suitable replacement for the Typhoon. These are two different types of aircraft with substantially different missions. While there is a project in the works to replace the Typhoon in RAF service (BAE Tempest), it is still in its early stages and is not expected to be ready until at least 2035. Going by the way most military projects tend to work, that is likely to be more like 2050.

    I don’t think the F35 would make a good QRF aircraft. You want something big and loud coming at invaders so maybe they’ll think again about trying to cross airspace.
    I heard the new F-15 EX is given to guard units in the US for that reason.
