    • @tdotitan8855
      @tdotitan8855 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Yeah I think people have known it's been flawed for like 20 years, but change is slow and the schools have been around for so long its easiest to just do what "works before"
      I think teachers try to do good but many times management is out of touch and there are many issues, I guess it also depends on the school but for school a lot of the time people have to go really hard and sacrifice things to get results. And that's at a "good school" gotta sacrifice a lot of time. I can only imagine at a school that just doesnt teach very well where you have to teach yourself and who really has the drive go do that as a kid anyway?
      Besides the kids who usually do that and sacrifice so much to get into college at like 14 or whatever usually have lots of mental and social problems because of it. But this gets pushed all the time it feels where you always need to be studying and working and working and working. But like many things if you let people you will get taken advantage of and thrown away when no longer useful.
      And that's not even talking about the bullying issue in schools and how if you get bullied you only get in trouble if you fight back. Still better to fight back though. Best to get a group though if you can.
      Its just depressing honestly. So many people struggling and trying to do what they can and being told that you either go to school or you are a failure. Thus then going into student debt for something you dont even want. And maybe even dropping out with a bunch of debt, low prospects etc.
      Its a cycle and honestly more and more everyday I can help but wonder if the people in charge want people to suffer on our own lives so we dont think about making the world a better place. Cant have the energy to change the world If we are struggling to survive right? But that is kind of a bit conspiracy.
      I just find it hard to believe people dont understand how many obvious problems there are and want to fix it.
      Many of these problems can be fixed with time and effort, but stubbornness for past ways as well as pride and fear of change guarantees slow progress. Even when it is more profitable to be good and improve people's lives so they buy more products. It's always short term thinking.
      Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. Although those that study history are doomed to watch other people repeat it.
      It does feel a bit meaningless and makes one feel apathetic. Which I feel is another part of life where so much is happening that it feels people can barely survive. It's hard to be emotional when bad stuff just constantly is happening. So I feel I am a bit of a hippocrite since I dont actually do anything to improve the world. Right now I just do my own thing and try and help people when I can, be decent to people and be happy when they are decent to me back.
      But really that is the bare minimum in life. I guess I'm fine with that for right now, maybe later I'll improve my life but I feel sometimes setting expectations lower can be useful for getting through the day.

    As a preface: I'm not a particle physicist, just an A-level physics student, but here's an explanation/retort to some of the things they talk about but also I've probably got something wrong:
    The problem with storing and creating antimatter is that when antimatter contacts its matter twin (e.g., a proton interacts with an antiproton) it goes through a process called annihilation: both the matter and antimatter particle's mass are converted into energy (they are converted into two photons that must travel in opposite directions to conserve momentum, if you want to be pedantic). Even worse, if you have a particle, it's antiparticle will be oppositely charged which means they will attract each other through the electrostatic force; some particles aren't charged but the problem with that is that we often use a particles charge to detect it making it very difficult to detect antiparticles that aren't charged. Antimatter is made naturally when a proton turns into a neutron or vice versa which happens when a nucleus is unstable and some forces need to be balanced (namely the electrostatic and strong). I.e., a neutron decaying into a proton (called beta minus decay) also creates an antielectron neutrino which is one of the before mentioned uncharged antiparticles.
    So, the issue with storing antimatter is that, say you were storing a positron (an antimatter electron), even if you had it inside a perfect vacuum, its container will be made of atoms which all have orbital electrons which this positron will be attracted to no matter how big the container is as the range on the electrostatic force is infinite (this is assuming that inside this container this hypothetical particle would stay acting like a particle which I'm fairly sure it wouldn't). Creating it is also an issue because most particles will immediately annihilate when they're created.
    On the hypothetical 1gram bullet situation, assuming that this casing for some reason doesn't annihilate the antimatter inside of it and all the antimatter annihilates on impact matter would be quickly turned into energy. Specifically, almost an E = mc^2 amount where m = 0.01kg and c is the speed of light which gives E = 9*10^14 Joules; and when I said almost I meant not almost because for each antimatter particle annihilated a matter particle must be annihilated so we have to double this number to give E = 1.8*10^15 Joules or 1.8 quadrillion Joules (you should also add the kinetic energy of the bullet but that will be negligible in comparison) or 1800 Tera Joules. For comparison, the energy output of a tonne of TNT (from a quick google search take this with a big pinch of salt) is 4.184 *10^-3 Tera Joules which means it would have an equivalent energy to 430210 tonnes of TNT which is nuclear bomb energy but not like Tzar Bomba energy. About 2.4 times the energy output of Little Boy, the bomb that was dropped onto Nagasaki.
    Black-holes are not made of antimatter. A black-hole is, as far as, I know defined as a single point in space-time in which such high gravitational field strength that past the event horizon no particle or object can escape (this includes light). (Also, Hawking radiation can escape blackholes but that's a part of physics which brings even actual particle physicists to crying so I'm not even going to try to approach that). They're typically made when a star something like 3 times the mass of our sun collapses creating a type 2 supernova, if the star collapses into a sphere of radius equal to its Schwarzschild radius (which is defined as the radius an object has to be to appear black and is equal to 2GM/c^2 where M is the object's mass in kg, G is the gravitational constant (not g = 9.81) and c is the speed of light). Asking what it's made of is complicated because a blackhole is mostly the lack of anything, the blackness comes from the fact that light can't escape. You may have seen a ring around some blackholes before which I believe is caused by matter orbiting it with such velocity it becomes incredibly hot due to the massive gravitational field strength but I not entirely sure on that. There is not way to now what's inside the centre of a blackhole because any for us to figure out what is inside of it uses EM radiation which cannot escape a blackhole.
    The relationship between gravity and time is complicated and way beyond the scope of anything I've done; I don't know how to answer this one. I'll just hit you with another wacko maybe fact. We live in a Euclidian space which has the property of the fastest way to traverse between two points is a straight line (given velocity isn't dependant on where you are i.e no friction or at least friction isn't dependant on your position). Another fact is that always takes the path that is the fastest to get from a to b so in Earth's atmosphere that can be curvy because gravity can help it be speedier but in the vacuum of space, fastest way is a straight line. Why do I say this? Light curves around a blackhole. You could explain this by saying that the gravity of a blackhole is so immense it courses light to bend. You could also say that a blackhole's effect on the space around it is such that geometry changes from Euclidian to a different geometry (I believe spherical) so that from the photon's point of view it is traveling in a straight line but we perceive it as bending around the blackhole (I don't know how valid that explanation is but I think its at least cool to think about). For a better explanation on Non-Euclidian spaces check out this video th-cam.com/video/zQo_S3yNa2w/w-d-xo.html and for more on blackholes th-cam.com/video/0FH9cgRhQ-k/w-d-xo.html

    which produces anti matter and stores/researches it. There is also alot of research going on with quantum field thoeries based on the idea that antimatter could be a possible way to break speed of light barriers/time travel via use of a modern Alcubierre drive (bubble of exotic energy allowing you to pass Around matter). The Hadron collider is somewhat outdated and irrelivant for most future concepts only really allowing brief glimpses at high energy environments/impacts. As Andrew said, if you wanna change something about your life, you got to do it one step at a time. Like if you wanna loose weight you should start with drinking water instead of soda. When you get used to that change something else like reducing the amount of your portions. When you get used to that, start walking 2km (around a mile) and increase the distance you walk gradually. And so on.

    • @Dielma
      @Dielma 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly, this is basically what they teach those who want to recover from drugs and alcohol. Take it one day at a time, one step at a time. If you expect to change everything at once you're going to fail. Focus on not using for a few months, work a crappy job if you have to, then after some time you can focus on getting a new job or studying. Get comfortable with one change at a time and you can completely change how you live.

    20 minutes in and Jackson is the only person that understands that school just teaches you the fundamentials. Andrews argument on how they never teach taxes is useless, because doing your taxes is nothing more than reading formal texts understanding it and filling in the brackets accordingly, which is definetly teached before you are done with highschool (atleast in the country I live in). Jackson is always trash talked by the others, but he is right most of the time. Just switch out Andrew, Charlie and Kaya with 4 Jacksons: Jackson, Ackson, Ckson and Kson

      @whosaprettykitty5076 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      But Andrew has a point, and there’s much more that goes into adulting than just doing your taxes. Students should be taught a mandatory finance class that teaches you about budgeting, paying your bills on time, taxes, credit cards and debt, etc. I was lucky enough to have a teacher go off curriculum to teach us this in my last year of high school and honestly, when learning it, I was surprised this wasn’t something schools even thought about teaching us, especially before we graduate high school (in the country I live in). Same thing with the math argument, as an Engineer in Geology i can for sure say calculators should be off limits for everything arithmetic and maybe algebraic depending on complexity, calculator is for calculus and other sciences.
      The whole point of math class is to make sure the student actually understands the concepts behind the math that they have to apply to solve the problem the teacher presents, so later in life they can build their own equations to solve real life problems, life isn't going to present an equation on a chalkboard for anyone, if the teachers just give the equation for the students to put on a calculator then nothing is actually being learnt.

    So regarding the education, a lot of "useless things" we have been learning are due to an educational philosophy called essentialism. It basically focuses on feeding students with facts and moral standards. This is a mega outdated philosophy that a lot of educators today disagree with. However, a lot of American education was built on essentialism, so that's why we are learning all these "useless" facts. Nowadays, a lot of well-funded schools will offer course selections like universities. However, the schools still have to follow the curriculum devised by the department of education for standardised testing.
    Regarding the school start time, that because of few reasons. First one is sports; schools have aversions to having student athletes practice in the dark. I don't understand this argument since we have technology called "lights". More realistic one is that some high school students need to get back home early so their younger siblings in elementary school or middle school can get babysitted. However, this argument also falls flat since you can just get home together with your siblings.

      @@VvC_Lad It's because essentialism has been built into the system from the start. The changes are happening though. Several teachers are going for more student-centred learning in America and a lot of universities instruct student teachers to avoid just feeding facts to students.
