A material must have strength propery or hardness property?
For example Stainless steel is have what property: hardness or Toughness ?
Both, depend upon contain of elements like as carbon, si, mg,etc
Both, stainless steel is mainly consists of Nickel, Chromium Carbon and Iron.
Nickel for: hardness
Chromium for: Corrosion resistance
Carbon for: brittleness
Iron is the base metal and other are alloying elements.
Nickel almost 8%
Chromium: 10.5-18%
Carbon: almost 1.2 %
Manganese can be added from 0.3-1.5% to improve its strength.
Remaining: Iron
These percentage can vary based on requirements
According to the percentage of these above mentioned elements, stainless steel's properties have been decided.
