[Intro] I couldn't hear nobody pray, Lord I couldn't hear nobody pray. See when I was way down yonder, By myself. And I couldn't hear nobody pray. See, oh Lord.... [Chorus] I couldn't hear nobody pray, Lord. I couldn't hear nobody pray. See when I was way down yonder, By myself And I couldn't hear nobody pray. [Verse 1] Dark was the night and cold the ground, On which my Lord was laid. And great drops of blood like sweat roll down, In agony he prayed. See, oh Lord.... [Chorus] I couldn't hear nobody pray, Lord. I couldn't hear nobody pray. See when I was way down yonder, By myself And I couldn't hear nobody pray. [Verse 2] Father remove this bitter cup If such thy sacred will. But if not content to drink it up, Thy pleasure I'll fulfill. See,oh Lord ohh [Chorus] I couldn't hear nobody pray, Lord. I couldn't hear nobody pray. See when I was way down yonder, By myself And I couldn't hear nobody pray. [Bridge] Couldn't hear nobody pray, Lord. Couldn't hear nobody pray, Way down yonder by myself. Couldn't hear nobody pray. [Interlude] Uhm-uhm-uhm-uhm Uhm-uhm-uhm-uhm Uhm-uhm-uhm-uhm Uhm-uhm-uhm-uhm See, oh Lord... [Chorus] I couldn't hear nobody pray, Lord. I couldn't hear nobody pray. See when I was way down yonder, By myself And I couldn't hear nobody pray.
As I listened to this song, I am so keenly aware of the sacrifices made by the ancestors, known and unknown. I pay homage to them in all I do and recognize their presence in my life. I hope that my African vibe remains in my bones this lifetime and the next. Thank you to my ancestors who bore the burden and ultimately wore the chains because I know at times, they couldn't hear nobody pray.
I love this performance and arrangement. There was an older performance that is no longer online. I really loved that one and wish it were available. Lewis sings it with so much feeling. My favorite in the whole wide world. thank you Wiley choir.
Not really into much church singing now-a-days, but Dang, this took the cake. Had me thinking about the Honorable Elijah Muhammad's teachings. Big ups to Nate Parker and Birth of A Nation. I'm re-energized.....
Fun Fact: The Honorable Elijah LOVED gospel music and understood it was apart of our culture way before the Church was established but he felt that the emotionality that came with it was a distraction to our people sometimes but he did say if used right it could be a powerful force of change.
I love this song and my school, but my man Lewis Keys was the first to sing this and will always be my favorite. Not saying this young man didn’t sing his heart out. DudC NATION!! Lewis Keys lead th-cam.com/video/7IwXxBrA3wA/w-d-xo.html

Soloist sounds amazing, one critique, remove your hands from behind your back. posture is important!
