The drinking faucet can actually be a dangerous backflow scenario. If there is negative pressure on the upstream side of the tap (faucet) it will syphon as seen in the the video. The issue is what its syphoning. If someone left a garden hose in dirty water you then have introduced potentially lethal bacteria into your drinking water supply. Its why only plumbers should do plumbing.

This is actually an effect called siphoning. It happens when there is a body of water at a lower point, and a hose that connects to a higher source of water. Since one body of water is lower then the other, no matter if the hose goes up and then down, the water will go down it anyway, because it wants to get to the other body of water. It’s a dumb meme that needs to die. Most people cannot visualize large units so someone came up with strategy of converting them to common well known items. It’s the same reason why most Americans describe distance as the time to drive somewhere. They have never walked or cycled the distance so they don’t have a physical relationship to it but they are very familiar with measuring and allotting time. (I’ve found that the vast majority of people are grossly inaccurate about the amount of time something takes generally underestimating by 15-30 minutes though delivery route drivers are precise within 2-3 minutes.) All to say SI units are not the savior many think them to be. If you’ve ever traveled you’ll know that all the cultures that officially use metric also still use their pre-metric units for many things too even to this day, yes, even France.

The drinking faucet can actually be a dangerous backflow scenario. If there is negative pressure on the upstream side of the tap (faucet) it will syphon as seen in the the video. The issue is what its syphoning. If someone left a garden hose in dirty water you then have introduced potentially lethal bacteria into your drinking water supply.
Its why only plumbers should do plumbing.

This is actually an effect called siphoning. It happens when there is a body of water at a lower point, and a hose that connects to a higher source of water. Since one body of water is lower then the other, no matter if the hose goes up and then down, the water will go down it anyway, because it wants to get to the other body of water.
