Thanks for the shoutout. We’re all doing OK in St Pete and the build continues.
I'm still trying to catch you...
@@Bigeaux20 enjoy the process. I’m at 3 months today. Took a few weeks off for other things.
@@LightningCapitalLiving I think I started cutting templates out on July 4th, picked up my lumber on July 15th. I've had plenty of non-working times with a couple weeklong trips for work and family. I'm shooting to be done by Memorial Day. Feel like if I could string together just a few days in a row I could make some real progress. But, it will happen in its own time. My distractions are good ones.
Well Oscar says your building a skiff two ? What size , are you doing a kit or on your own plans ?
Well there young fella looks like your building a boat , found your vids while looking at stitch and glue boats others were building , I’m a retired boat builder of 32 years , but never built a stitch and glue boat , so this is pretty cool , I’m in St Pete , and thought about doing my own project , but I’d do it from scratch, without plans , and I’ll probably use General purpose resin , are you in the St PETE area ? Only had one section of fence blow down in the hurricane 👍🏼
I am not in St. Pete but Lightning Capital who also commented is, and he is also building a Salt Boatworks S&G boat. 32 years as a boat builder, huh. Please don't watch me building this thing unless you need some comedy in your life.
@@Bigeaux20 your doing fine friend , take your time and do it right fixing screw up’s are a pain , you may want to put temporary wood battens to hold the shape of your boat , I saw you had a ratchet strap pulling it in , any glass on the sides would make it stay deformed, depending on how big a motor your going with remember to beef up that transom , and the bottom center keel this were the boat gets the most abuse , I’ll be watching, this is a cool project 👍🏼
@@davescheer5038 hey Dave a yes I’m on the bay side of St Pete. I purchased all my wood from Bedard Marine up in Tarpon Springs and FGCI is right on 34th street so I get a lot of supplies there as well.
Thanks for the tip. The ratchet strap is just to hold the sides against those short transverse bulkheads. Once those short compartments are glassed, I will take the strap off, which may be today. The shear clamp and shear bumpers will be in place before the hull side get's glassed up to the shear, so it should be in it's fair state when that's done. The keel already has a doubled pad and will have additional glasswork, and the transom is already "beefy" where the motor will mount, and I am adding doublers along the transom sides for any attachments like power poles, ladders, etc... Everything will be bulky that will get stressed. I think the design does a lot of that intentionally as well.
@@Bigeaux20 sounds like you got it I’m looking forward to the next video, one of the biggest thing to worry about with wood boats is the humidity building it outside, 🤔
