As someone who witnessed this tornado and worked in Utica for years afterwards, constantly passing the victim’s memorial, this is an excellent video to sum up the destruction of that town on that horrible day. Those 8 wouldn’t have died if they would’ve stayed in their trailer park, but they didn’t know the trailer park wasn’t going to be hit. They were doing what they thought was the smartest thing to do, and they perished because of it 😢 I still remember waiting to hear if my great-aunt was alive. Her house was completely toppled like a house of cards, but she made it to her basement in time and survived ❤
Thank you and yes that tornado was tragic in so many levels and I still remember when it happened. You are so fortunate to have survived it I am sure you still feel the aftermath of that disaster. The purpose of my video is to bring remembrance to those lives that were lost. I do hope others do the same.
@@alexandersupertramp1095 you did a wonderful job and absolutely achieved your purpose with this video. I do feel grateful to have made it out with no injuries or damages. Maybe 30 minutes before the Utica tornado, the same storm cell hit Granville which is south of the river. It wasn’t as strong then. But it defied everyone’s assumptions that tornadoes can’t cross rivers, and it grew until it destroyed Utica. I remember watching the funnel cloud passing over my house, the sky was a weird color, and we had golf ball-sized hail but luckily the tornado had gone back up when it passed over me. Tragic for the village of Utica though ☹️ they’ve done a wonderful job in the past almost 20 years of rebuilding though!!
@@alexandersupertramp1095 and our whole community remembers them every single day. Gone but never forgotten. One of the ladies who perished at the tavern was a twin, and her twin sister basically lost her mind after losing her sister… the aftermath is always felt 😓 The 19th anniversary is coming up soon and I’m sure there will be a memorial service or a special mass at the local church. If not, I believe all of the victims are buried in the same cemetery as my family so I’ll drop some flowers on their graves.
I remember the super tornado breakout of April 2011. I live in TN and it was all around us, several neighborhoods were obliterated and a neighborhood right over the GA line was completely gone. it took out a whole family 😮😢 I think over 100 people died.
Wow that was more devastating than this one. And I know that tornadoes are more prevalent in the Bible Belt and more deaths occur there but this particular one was close to where I live and was quite talked and written about. Tornadoes are rare in the northern part of Illinois.
Hi Heather, I did and I hope you did as well. I am working on your Susan Swedell video but I have been busy with other things that I am unable to put more time into it. I am hoping to get it done before I go on vacation.
@@heathernikki5734 I have never heard of this case until you mentioned it to me. It's crazy, a lot of things don't make sense like when she left for work on a snowstorm wearing a mini skirt like she's meeting a date but told her Mom she was going home right away. And after she disappeared she supposedly went back at her home to drop of her work clothes and not take anything else with her. SO weird. How would you like me to tell this story? Do you want me to add in something not mentioned on the many TH-cam videos made of Susan?
@@alexandersupertramp1095 I don’t know if you agree but a cold case detective commented that the “visit” two weeks or so later to her house is a red herring, that her mother and sister were under a lot of stress and it was wishful thinking, or misinterpretation etc and that maybe it was just an extra uniform. I’m kind of of the same thinking. Her sister has a Facebook page that has a lot of info. Susan had been in contact with a lot of men on chat lines but I doubt one would travel in a blizzard. That guy at the gas station has got to be the key. If he was innocent he’d have came forward, in my opinion
RIP tornado victims. Illinois has some pretty rough tornadoes. Sad, but true.
Absolutely! I'm glad I moved out of Minooka.
