The garden is finally producing a LOT of produce and we're working to get everything finished before frost. How is your garden holding up at the end of the season?!
Hey Rich! The garden is catching up! Thats wonderful! How exciting. First frost here last night so cleaned out tomatoes and cucumbers etc. have a great day!
I guess you're about right on schedule for frost. It could happen any day now but our average is October 1st. I think we're good into the next week. It's always fun to be done and start planning for the next year. Have a great week!
I’d be wrangling up those girls. I tell ya, this year was a tough growing season for a number of reasons Rich. Growing in our zone is a difficult one. Maybe the Alaskan varieties are the way to go, for sure. Your watermelon looks fantastic! I love your garden space. Ours is difficult. Pepper city! I have more planning to do for next year.
We are loving the Alaskan variety right now. We will see how they produce but they are nice and tall and seem very sturdy. There are peas all over the plants. It's always fun to plan for the next year. I'm sure you've got a lot of ideas of what worked (and what didn't). Make a lot of notes for the planning sessions! Cheers Jen!
Supper garden tour. Two of my neighbors have been helping with my garden and we’ve been sharing. The only things that did well in my garden this year were tomatoes and herbs. It was just too wet. I have canned 3 times as many tomatoes this year plus I’ve shared them with the other two. I canned tomato sauce today. My black cherry tomatoes tasted so much better this year than last. ??? Did you reduce the number of chickens this year?
The moisture was a battle this year. The tomatoes didn't do well. Too wet and they didn't like being transplanted. We canned a LOT two years ago so we're still living on those. I'm hoping next year will be "normal" for moisture! We're at 26 chickens right now. Fewer but they provide for us AND a little for others. Cheers Tani!!
Zone 4b in WI, garden is doing great! Close to a second picking of peppers and tomatoes. My bush beans are close to a 2nd picking on their 2nd round (got about 2.5 pickings on the first round). Pole beans are ready for 2nd picking, cucumbers are still coming in strong. Zucchini are starting to taper off and vines are dieing for my pumpkin, but the white acorn squash and watermelon are still going strong. And the sunflowers, oh boy, are tall and beautiful with lots of bees! And my fall lettuce and spinach should be ready to start picking in the next week or so. Lots of harvesting and canning and freezing going on.
Sounds like you've got a bumper crop of everything! Congrats on a great season (or two seasons!)! I miss having all the pumpkins and vining crops this time of year. SO much fun finding all the squash and pumpkins with the kids! Have a great weekend & congrats!!
Hi Rich. Garden Tour is GREAT….FALL is in the air. I’m a Fan of the Metal Raised Beds….Lisa (Yogi Hollow) was given a Vegaga Raised Bed to try….her beans grew very well!
Good morning Rich. I picked 11 cucumbers last night. Tomatoes are still giving. Lettuce, and radishes are coming, but i have to water. Thank you for the tour.
Thanks Dave! Things are coming around and we're hoping for a good harvest just before frost. We need to get on 20 meters and say hello some weekend! Have a great day!
It looks like some veggies rebounded nicely for you. We still have tomatoes, cukes, carrots, and eggplant growing. Next month we will get the garlic planted. We decided to cut the garden in half and do a couple patio pots for next year. We are traveling so much now that we are rarely home. Tell Holly 'HI' from us.
We're already planning for next year. Smaller groupings of plants and more variety. We didn't get any eggplant or most squash, due to the rain. Will the pots work for you with the travel schedule? Do you have a watering system to keep them wet while you're gone? Holly says hello to you both! Have a great week!!
@TheOldSwedesFarm We have someone either stay here while we are gone or just stop by to water. With the pots on the patio, there are no moving the hoses out to the garden, hooking up to a drip system, etc... I also realized I was canning way too much for just the two of us! We have been enjoying eating more fresh right out of the garden instead. I planted a black cherry tomato in a large pot this year, and it produced great! I'll definitely let you know how it works out for us.
I thought the industry would've shaken this out by now. It seems like this is the issue that won't go away. We avoided the issues this year. I'm hoping this will be 100% gone next season! Cheers Tammy!
Here in 5b we had terrible luck with our peppers this year. Other things we did were ok…no corn ears even tho they few plants came up. Good tomato harvest and the squash are doing well. Tried a new potato method this year, the towers. We will not do that again… very low yield. Zucchini and yellow squash is finished but did well and we have several pie pumpkins nearly ready to pick… carrots were small last time we checked them….cukes were a low yield but last year we got zero so that’s better..the forecast here for the week is hot for September 86 today and 84 tomorrow…all in all I’m happier than last year but the hubby is disappointed. He loves a huge garden! He’s already planning next year!
The weather has been HOT lately! Sounds like you had an OK year, despite the weather setbacks this year. I keep a journal and I'm always planning for next year. Work on your notes and make a good plan to overcome the challenges you faced this year. No potato tower next year. Get a trough like us. The spuds love it!!
Your garden is still looking amazing! Hey the Alaskan variety - are those squash? I went back and Re listened and couldn’t tell. Love the tubs for the raised beds! We have some watermelon still growing out there and hoping we will get some harvested this year! Thanks for sharing your garden! 😊👍❤️
The tubs are a game changer for us. They are awesome! The peas are from Ferry-Morse. They are called "Pea - Alaska Wilt Resistant." Awesome growers and great producers. We'll try them again next year. Hope this helps you for future plantings!
Looking for a bigger cherry tomato, Dad complained my variety was too small. What is your Black cherry? I tried rampicante squash this year, im told its similar to butternut, eager for them to ripen. Purple pole beans were very prolific. Learning and changing every year. Yesterday my Zinnias were loaded with Monarchs!! Leaves are dropping like crazy in east central MN.
The Black Cherry is just called Black Cherry tomatoes. If you can't find them, let me know and I'll look up where we got them. I love them. They taste like grapes or a light white wine. So tasty!! What town are you near? We need to meet in the off season!! Cheers!
Check out our video "Never Weed Your Garden Again | Garden Fabric Installed RIGHT!" There is a link in the description that will take you to Amazon. The fabric is awesome! We love it. It's been about four seasons of growing and it doesn't look like we'll have to replace it. The stuff is amazing! Hope this helps!
I don't care about cross pollination. It only matters if you're using the seeds next year. I just use them one year and use new seeds the next. Then I don't need to worry about pollination. Just so they are pollinated and grow, I'm happy! Cheers Bryce!

Raised beds can be incredible. I need to water more as they drain awesome. I never have to worry about standing water again! Cheers Garry!
It’s been Cold here Rich! Like 10c which is just 50F…we had to light the Wood Stove at The Ole Church!
Wow! We have been really warm. Lows were only in the 60's. I actually turned the air conditioner on over the weekend. Unusual for September!
Good morning Rich. I picked 11 cucumbers last night.
Tomatoes are still giving.
Lettuce, and radishes are coming, but i have to water. Thank you for the tour.
You've had some great success this year, despite all the water you had! Congrats Bryce!
Outstanding tour

@@lorrik.7341 Sounds like you've got a great plan! I need to retire so I can be your water boy when you're traveling!! Have a great weekend Lorri!
We had peppergate too! Mysterious not-jalapeños and not-bell peppers lol.

My folks believed different vine fruits, and vegetables should be separated to avoid cross pollination. Evidently you don't have a problem ?
