      @@dylanvieira9152 Yes that's what I would recommend. You get the huge benefit of added sequencer features on the 'S' model, plus the keys if you have an external keyboard that you can attach. Unless having the keys all in one unit is a huge advantage for you for gigging or something, I wouldn't consider the keyboard model.

    2S is a really sweet synth, not to mention there is a way to use it as a drum machine for Techno tracks. I almost ended up getting it at one point, but the format was a huge issue for me. I have too many desktop gadgets as is, synths, mixers, MIDI surface control boards, and the clutter they and their cables create is sometimes overwhelming as is. It would have been very nice to have it in a similar format to Neutron or Delta CEP A (BTW that synth is really gorgeous looking and sounding) so I could attach it to a computer monitor arm the way my other synths are, and be able to swing it in and out as needed.

    For the record many people, myself, use sequencers as part of live play, so calling the minibrute 2 as more of a live play instrument compared to the 2s is not really true. The truth is the minibrute 2 is more for keyboardist who feel the need to have a keyboard around. While the 2s is more for people who prefer to have a synth without the keyboard, and rather have a more in-depth sequencer instead. Both are useful live though, depending on how you approach synthesis live.

      I've been having so much fun with my 2S that I haven't even figured out how it really works yet! That's why I'm watching these videos. But in the end who really cares how it really works, the fun is in just patching and seeing what happens. The sequencer is an integral part of this experience, especially when you get into those mysterious Pressure n and Velocity tracks. I am very happy with this instrument so far, it's really stretching my mind.

  • @venomslair137

    I can imagine the vast possibilities with those machines... Use noise for analogic drums in the 2S and use the MB 2 for the rest (bass or lead).

    Nice! But indeed the sequence seem to got out of sync when changing playback direction?
    What I missed: is it possible to mute steps with the buttons while a sequence is playing? Is it possible to switch ratchet of a step on/off with the buttons or just via the dial? Can patterns be selected quick with the buttons and afterwards beeing transposed again?

    • @olivierdelhomme3922
      @olivierdelhomme3922 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is an 8 notes sequence over 16 steps.
      So 2 steps per note, 1st one on the tick, 2nd on the off-beat
      When switching to reverse, the 2nd is played first, so off-beat :)
      You can mute 1 step just by disabling it (values for the step will be remembered you enable it back)
      You can mute a whole track pressing Shift+Track
      While a sequence is playing, pressing a pad, playing an arp or playing a MIDI note will mute the sequence temporarly
      Ratchet is accessible only trough Shfit+Encoder on a Gate track
      Pattern selection is quick: Load+Pad
      Transpose is quick: Pad 16 + Any other pad
      While you remain in the same bank, unsaved content in patterns is remembered (including transpose)

    Great video, almost sold on the 2S, in relation to the time divisions, is it just that the Minibrute 2 has a knob for selection, are the additional divisions such as triplets possible with the 2S? also when you record on the Minibrute 2 can you change the sound of the instrument to play over it.

  • @KorhanErel
    @KorhanErel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I was quite disappointed with the MiniBrute 2S and returned it after having it for almost a month. The synth sounds quite nice. But then the build quality was very poor - at least on the unit I had... the feeling of the knobs and faders were not consistent... a few of the knobs actually touched the metal plate. The patch points were terrible. Some wobbled, while others were too tight (the TRS ones should be tighter than the TS ones, but in my case, it was random). And most importantly... it's huge! Way too big for what it does. There is no way I would take it to play live. In most clubs, you'd have no space left. Oh and also, I could almost never get the two oscillators in tune. The two white tuning knobs for the two oscillators felt different, worked different...
    The really strong point with the 2S is the sequencer, I think. The fact that one can program LFOs and envelopes per step can result it quite interesting sounds and timbres when used in tandem with the patch bay.
    My verdict would be:
    - it is a good synth for sound design and studio production. Low end was pretty impressive. The patch bay allows some really creative patching options
    - it has a very good sequencer. So good, that if they sold that separately as a Beat Step Pro 2 with separate cv outs (as well as MIDI) for all sequencable parameters, I'd consider getting one. Editing the sequencer is a bit tedious though, but then I did not spend enough time with it to learn it well.
    - it could have been a good instrument for live improvisation if the build quality was good (and if it were smaller)
    - it is way too big for what it does. I would not take it to a live gig unless it was the only synth I was playing.
    - build quality, at least on my unit, was very poor.
    - the patch bay is not sturdy and consistent enough for live patching, and can be frustrating even in the studio

      I agree. I am surprised Arturia users so rarely mention the poor build. I turned down a cheap Drumbrute on basis of build, so plasticky and pads horrible.

    • @KorhanErel
      @KorhanErel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheChannelofaDisappointedMan the Beatstep Pro I had was quite well built, I must say. But then, nowadays, almost nothing is well built. Had to send my Octatrack MK2 twice to Sweden for manufacturing faults, and recently sent my less-than-a-year old Digitone (used almost only in the studio) for repairs. Had to return one Hydrasynth for the same reason. Also a Rubberneck delay pedal.

    • @KorhanErel
      @KorhanErel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @AllYouKnowIsWrong The Hydrasynth I have now feels and weighs like a tank :) The first one probably had a loose connection inside.
      And I have just ordered another Minibrute 2S after seeing it for much cheaper than what I originally paid for it. And my partner was in love with it anyway and was very happy that it's returning. She's started playing synths too :) The reason I purchased one is to complement one modular case with oscillators and the fantastic sequencer. I will not worry too much about the poor build, and maybe they have improved it in the past two years, who knows?

    • @KorhanErel
      @KorhanErel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @AllYouKnowIsWrong well you'll probably be a very confused and overwhelmed musician in the next six months or so with so many new synths suddenly arriving ;)

    Hello!
    Does the Minibrute 2 has a HOLD function? Just to drone a note eternally.
    The original Minibrute had this function in the back, next to the conections.
    I see that the Minibrute 2 has HOLD for the arpegiator, but dont know about just 1 note drone.
    The Micro brute has a trick were one could patch "gate out" to "gate in" in the back panel, and also do HOLD; maybe there is a similar way on the Minibrute 2.

      @BlackTomorrowMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easy solution: get both! But if you can only get one, it depends what you want out of a synth. If you need polyphony then go with the Minilogue. Otherwise the Minibrute 2 wins hands down. multimode filter, 2 oscillators like the Minilogue, up to 4 LFOs, a patch bay that's compatible with Eurorack modules if you ever decide to get any. I have both synths, but if I had to get rid of one, I'd definitely sell the Minilogue.

  • @ipoponq

    Wait, so there's no way to sequence triplets or doted notes in the S model?

  • @MadelnMachines
    @MadelnMachines 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 2S is so much more impressive. It's actually a very powerful synth if you consider it can have 4 LFOs or 4 Envelopes. Impressive. There's a lot of duplication of function with the sequencer which might not be intuitive and it would have been nicer to have a decent screen. It's a nice budget price though so I wouldn't expect any more than it offers. Did you find it intuitive or you got used to it very quickly?

    • @loopop
      @loopop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think despite the apparent complexity it’s actually quite easy to use. I didn’t feel the lack of screen beyond what it has to be an issue

    • @MadelnMachines
      @MadelnMachines 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can you use all of these sequencer features with external eurorack gear instead of the minibrute - sending out sequenced Pitch, LFOs and Envelopes to a eurorack vco and filter for example?

    • @dyscotopia
      @dyscotopia 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MadelnMachinesmine's on order but based on my research it can sequence at least two of the cv outs and send to external compatible gear and more if you're clever

    ..................is there free alkihol with the purchase? Seriously though, have you any word or tip off that Arturia are going to develop a drumbrute 2S? It would be great to have a drumbrute 2S with Rackbrute connections. You could in essence place a DFAM and SUBH in the rackbrute and whereas moogs rack system for mother 32, SubH and DFAM is slim, the Arturia Rackbrute would have space for additional modules. A rig where a drumbrute 2S would be the main concern would be a good addition. Any ideas if Arturia are going to develop this?

    Same crappy filter? On paper the 2S can give a run for your money compare of what you get with Moog DFAM, since that one only has 8 step sequencer. But the sound and the build, it's not here from Arturia. This is supposed to be a analog synth and it sounds more like a another VST emulation. Where's the Rawness?

    The 2s looks cumbersome to use. Can you playback the 2 "tracks" simultaneously? I didnt see that in this video. I assume you can otherwise they're not a true seperate "tracks". And wouldnt it have been nicer if Arturia just added say, 4 seperate "track" buttons? Then allow you to create 4 seperate sequences, and playback all 4 tracks or mute any of them? This is what the Roland JDXI does, but obviously doesnt have all the other features this has. I like the patch bay but I dont like the functional implementation of that sequencer.

    • @loopop
      @loopop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      supercommando440 please check out my review of the 2S. I explain it in detail. It would be true to say 4 tracks - there are two mod tracks and a synchronized pitch and gate track (so 4 but really 3)

    I seriously hate what Arturia is doing here; milking their product line... They should've put a KEYBOARD on the 2s, or, put a nicer sequencer on the 2. But yeah, they want our money... so if you want both get a matrixBrute... oh but wait... probably missing something on that, which is included in the mini 2 or 2s.

    • @loopop
      @loopop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      supercommando440 a combined machine would have been a monster for sure, but if you get a keystep with the 2S you’re not missing that much

    • @supercommando440
      @supercommando440 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      loopop Seriously, arturia shouldve at least put 8 or 16 dedicated light-up sequencer buttons on the brute 2. Korg, Roland... they include sequencer buttons and a keyboard. I dont get Arturia.

    • @loopop
      @loopop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      supercommando440 the new Prologue doesn’t have a sequencer - far be it from me to try and assume design decisions... keystep is a really powerful midi keyboard from Arturia

    • @supercommando440
      @supercommando440 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      loopop a monster? Maybe... with a keystep, I'd choose the 2s but that sequencer. Is it truely 2 tracks? Ie can you create 2 completely different sequences and play both back at same time, and mute either? It seems like the 2 tracks you described is more of a "trick" to make it record a 2nd track but I didnt see you playem both back simultaneously, which would be a true multi-track feature.
