The scenes are pretty similar besides the fact they don't talk about the vivisteria flower/tree. Also the fact they had a different character in mind instead of Gale, they had a whole different build up to this scene too, which was also really great like truly amazing.

Yep. They hired voice actors as stands ins on how the scene plays out before having the official actors do their lines.
Kind of like how Edna was intended to have a female actress but the freakin director was too good so they have him do Edna's voice

i mean, if i was at pixar and they kept as much as they did from a scene i did in the final version as what was in this reel, i would be a very happy camper. its clear that this was placed much earlier in the film then what it ended up being, a change i think was for the better, but this had a lot more in common with the finished film's sequence then i was expecting, must have really left an impression on the above the line staff. great stuff.
