Justin bout to end all the bust talk real quick! Finally got himself a real defense and an offensive system that's tailor made for his game! Dude was born to be a Steeler. Tough as nails competitor with a bazooka for an arm. The ascension has begun!!!

This is my first time actually watching JF and that is because he's a Steeler now, but I said this Sunday, dude was dropping dimes!! I said this guy isn't as bad as they try to make him out to be, he does the same things ALL QBs do and that is either hold on to the ball to long or bail out to soon, and very few in this league are accurate, most likely the ones that are-are considered the best in the league today, so why is he so critiqued and criticized???

As a bears fan and an advocate of Justin I can tell you a lot of it is narrative driven. Throughout his time in Chicago box score watchers called him trash cause his passing yard average is low. He had some shaky footwork and took a lot of hits and sacks which seemed to rattle him and lead him to missing open guys and the bears offensive infrastructure has been garbage making him look worse than he is and resulting in an unsuccessful offense cause someone different messed up on every play. Because our defense was trash for most of Justin’s time there, we were unable to win games even when our offense played well which forced us to play offense aggressively, amplifying Justin’s mistakes.
During this time, Justin showed an IMMENSE amount of talent, both with his arm and his legs. Unfortunately Chicago couldn’t turn any of this into wins, mostly because of a terrible defense (until the second half of last year and whaddya know we had a winning streak all of a sudden), and Justin couldn’t quite do the simple things consistently. This draft, Caleb Williams was compared to Justin over and over amplifying Justin’s problems and causing a lot of the Chicago fan base to stop supporting him. In the end, the GM chose Caleb partially to buy himself time since no one will fire him over a rookie qb not performing well and lots of people just assume that Chicago was a trash team because of Justin

The media really hammered the narrative last in favor of Caleb Williams. Justin is a good kid. At one point a local and popular Chicago sports show who had a low level reporter who claimed to have a source that JF was toxic in the locker room. The source was unconfirmed because the story was BS. There was a lot of fans that loved this kid and the Bears PR team had to gain favor for Caleb. This is why people are confused. He can put up a lot of points and has improved every year. He really got a bad deal in Chicago.

Biggest difference, Justin is not being put in situations were it doesn't allow him to use his strengths. They now have tp sure him up in red zone threats, but that can be schemed. I think he is one game away from getting a sigh of relief of being able to play freely with a team that he knows now will support him, something he didn't have in Chicago.

He was 10/12 at the half. He had some big plays and a touchdown wiped out by penalties. The whole team’s play fell off in the second half, maybe due to the altitude.

_Very_ good observations re the short versus med to long passes. I still haven't made up my mind if Smith is holding back on Fields yet, but seeing how he still waits too long when given multiple options on routes shows it's a Fields thing. As much as I wish it weren't.
The Bears _really_ messed him up.

@@FilmStudyForRookies I'm not sure anyone *has* to. We all seem to view Fields as having been born in the 4th quarter of that first game against the Lions last year that he lost by throwing an awful INT late. But this itself implies that NFL football is like its video game version where only the QB is controlled & everyone else is an NPC.
Fields has never called the plays. & you know what? Neither does Mahomes. Yet even your phrasing in your reply & in the video kind of implies everything he does is due to himself. Part of this is simply human nature. If we hear a meme often enough, a voice in our heads thinks "they wouldn't be saying it if it wasn't true." But let me show you One Thing.
      th-cam.com/video/QuhUbISnr8s/w-d-xo.html.
"If it wasn't true, why'd this get revived in '22?" If it _was_ true, why'd it need reviving?
Me, I'm excellent at shutting out social media & its memes. It's effortless. I'm also excellent at not rushing to judgment. (Hence my open dossier on Arthur Smith & accepting what you showed despite not liking it). After 8 years of not, I finally started watching the NFL again in '22 & right away I could see something was seriously wrong with the Bears.
Multiple receivers would just stand still & watch as the ball they needed to take another step to catch fell to the ground. Beyond that, the drives were all "hand of to the RB X3, toss a slant or screen, repeat." & Fields looked bored _to _*_tears_* with this.
The thing is, I'm nobody. I didn't study this, have no expertise. If *_I'm_* seeing it, I make damned sure of it if I can.
I actually didn't look up Fields' college games or highlights until after '23 was almost over because I can tell when *I* am in that semi-conscious mode where I want to see confirmation bias. Besides, I'm aware college skills don't always transfer to the NFL.
But _Fields_ do. & someone spliced his highlights together with Caleb's. (Look up Caleb Williams vs Justin Fields (College Highlights Year 1- Year 3) if you want to see them for yourself). Seen together, Fields is clearly superior. At everything.
But just because we've heard Caleb is generational we accept it. But we also heard Fields can't read defenses. Media affects us.
My overall point is that Fields is better than we're even seeing now. I think that Poles & Eberflus _really_ messed him up & he likely has trust issues. One time Fields went to shake Eberflus' hand after a TD. 'Flus turned away from him. He made sure to look up into his face from looking at his clipboard, held that for a second, then turned away from him.
      On the sideline.
      During a game.
In front of his teammates. I can't emphasize enough what scummy behavior that is, to humiliate him in front of the team like that.
We have footage of worse o-line play than what the Bears put up last week, Fields called his own coaches put publicly, twice: & the HC said & did _nothing?_ If the HC of a team whose QB says "my own coaches are confusing me" says & does nothing, _he's behind_ the confusion! & he called plays. So imagine what it must have been like for Fields to know at some point that his Own Coaches were sabotaging him & he had to play for them anyway?
So I think that he hasn't shed all of the subconscious "looks out for signs of betrayal" that he picked up there. But if he *_does_** get back* to college form... it _is_ too bad they didn't acquire another high-end receiver.

He can’t execute the simple throws. Misses a lot on the TE & over the middle. Also, he can’t throw the swing pass out to the back.

    • @ChewsCarefully
      @ChewsCarefully 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

He had _some_ what I'll call PTSD after everything the Bears did to him. He was a _mess_ in the preseason. But he's already stopped bobbing on the balls of his feet looking to run at every chance & he's nailing throws he hasn't had chances to nail in over a year. The swing passes were things he had no trouble with in college, so those should return as well.
I wish they'd give some of *those* to Myles Austin. I think they're using his speed wrong. He's not a good long pass catcher. Reverses & swing passes should get some yards.
