I'm currently reading "The Girls I've Been" and I'm loving it! It's a fast paced ya mystery thriller but it being ya doesn't bother me like it sometimes does. Queerness isn't a main theme in the book but the main character is a queer girl and she get's caught up in a bank robbery with her girlfriend and ex-boyfriend.

tbf i’m bisexual, my parents are lesbians, my friends are almost all queer etc. I haven’t read full disclosure but even my boyfriend is bi. not quite as unrealistic as it may seem ig

Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen was one of the most cathartic reading experiences I had in undergrad. I really wish I would have read it in high school (it came out in 2014). Still hands down my favorite sapphic YA novel. Definitely has some tense and rough moments but the way everything comes together in the end meant everything to me!

I've definitely been enjoying your ranking videos. There are so many books out there and the rankings help me know which ones I might want to prioritize over others.

You should read Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin! It's not a happy story and the main character is an arsehole but the book is incredible, I loved it so much! Absolute queer classic

A book that I think you might like is "Annie on my mind" it's set in the early 90s about two teen girls who fall in love with each other. It's a really sweet story.

It’s considered over rated but I can’t help it, Song of Achilles has me by the throat 😭. I read it 3 times and one of those times I bought a second identical copy at an airport just so I could read it on the plane

No but I read Leah on The Off-Beat when I WAS the target audience. I was just starting to question my sexuality at that point, and it was the first Sapphic romance I had ever ever read. Since I liked Simon vs. I thought that it would be a good choice.
Then I read it and felt…nothing. If anything, I just felt kind of sad, because I liked the love interest better with her boyfriend from the previous book. Those things combined made me actually kind of shut down my questioning, because I was young and stupid, and I guess had just put a lot of stock in that book as an “introduction” to the queer female experience. Since I didn’t find the story moving I thought I must not be into girls after all, and felt kind of dumb, and called myself straight for the rest of high school 😅
Looking back, it was actually just that…the characters had no chemistry, and they were cheating on one of their partners who had done nothing wrong if I remember, and also I was too young at the time to relate to the college anxiety aspect of it. I think Evelyne Hugo was as actually the next sapphic book I read, a few years later, and yeah, that one definitely made me feel things (also funny that I put so much importance on my feelings towards books back then, when I was actively crushing on girls throughout high school 😂 I just felt that I needed fiction to validate my experiences or something I guess)
No hate to Becky Albertali, I love SVTHSA and The Upside of Unrequited, but that book…just happened to hit me at the wrong time in my life I guess lol

I felt the same way about Full Disclosure. It felt like the author was just ticking off boxes, like every minority had to be represented. I could see the author's choices in every sentence and it bothered me enough to make me DNF it. Not hating on her, it's still better than what I could have written at 18 but those where my thoughts reading it (or partially reading it)

i have read most of these and i agree with most of your rating except i loved shara way more (i am older than you so i think there's an age where you are kinda done with ya and then it swings back around to enjoying it), and Kiss her once for me would go in my top tier. Also, I would put achillies in burn it (i hated that book so much lol)

Can’t remember if it was in the video (I have covid so severe brain fog) but have you read Oranges are Not the Only Fruit? A semi autobiographical novel about an adopted girl in England raised by evangelicals who turns out to be a lesbian. I read it during my first queer relationship and oh boy, it knocked me on my little queer butt. One of my all time favourite books!

i don't think the danish girl as a book is problematic, but i know in the movie the character of lily is played by a cis man (same who played newt scamander in the fantastic beasts movies, i think), and as you surely understand that's not it.

@@storieswithgeorgiamarie - really? For all of recorded European human history people found this behaviour revolting and unacceptable, even punishable by death. It’s simply how people think. Current trends are an outlier. Normally will resume, but how many lives will be blighted afterwards? Your behaviour is pernicious.
