Well I kind of understand that. But maybe instead of making intentionally bad plays. Mixeli should just lower their own team's levels? That way, the fights would be more intense.
I honestly feel like he should refrain from using items and switching, unless the opponent does so while keeping the levels the same. I say this because the ai barely does this, leaving for some easy matchups, and saving him from losing. There are plenty of times the ai would of won in this series had he not used an item

But, what if you fought Mewtwo from the first movie at some point? I mean, he was basically a trainer in that movie. So having him have a team of his clones could be an interesting battle. And if possible. You could make them act like Lusamine's second team, having the Totem boost.
I already try with Greninja to fight Myself but it doesn't work because the animation and models have different script in hxd than trainer models. But I have another way don't worry, I've already planned to do him when I will be between 30~40 ;)
I wonder if Hilbert and Black could fight themselves, then it could Reshiram and Zekrom fighting all over again, since Black has Reshiram in the manga.
