Around 10 years ago when I was still a university student, they (not the same dancers) came to our school to perform (along with other physically challenged people), so I got to see them up close in person. Knowing that all the dancers were hearing impaired, I was in tears watching them. As a teenager, I was saying to myself - no matter how bad things may go, you gotta be strong, and you will shine just like them.
I once showed a video clip of the 1000-hand dance by these Chinese performers at an assembly of 100 children at our school. The children were in awe. I told them that if you are a Bodhisattva you have a thousand eyes to see the suffering in the world and a thousand ears to hear the cries for help and a thousand hands to help. I told them the story of Kuan Yin, the greatest of Bodhisattvas. According to Eastern tradition, Kuan Yin had achieved total wisdom and could enter heaven but when she heard the cries of people in need she did not enter but returned to help. I asked them to put up their hands if they wanted to be a Bodhisattva. All the hands went up instantly! I was so moved and it still overwhelms me when I think about that moment. How fortunate I have been to work with children all these years.
It's so peaceful, calming and full of a stunning thousands-years-old wisedom, but amazingly powerful at the same time. Thousand hands can speak more than two thousand mouths.
Isn't it wonderful, the things people can do? The dance is stunning! I love how so many people have so many different and diverse talents, it makes this world extraordinary!

I had a little cheer dance in church (it was the songs that we sing to jesus) and there was this part where we needed to spread our hands and the kid from the back started it...We needed a ton of practice but at the end we all loved it and we all still remember the dance!❤Thank you teacher, for helping us learn the dance!❤🥳😭
They are just wonderful and having worked with deaf people at the Library of Congress in DC why am I not surprised by their actions. That’s called love and you can see why they are not only in sinc but look at their faces. They are having a really good time. BRAVO

i have seen the leg impairment performance way back 1995. Wow it was performed fantastically. It was my first experience to see such performing arts performed by crippled victims. Its genius idea. I loved it.
Its so awesome how the ones in the back shows the side biew and its so synchronized too ! And apparently they can't hear so they have to rely with eachother while the musicians can't see so they also rely on eachother
Chinese are some of the MOST disciplined people on this planet. Though I suspect they come behind South Korea and Japan. I just admire these cultures - the richness and depth, it reflects in everything - well, most things.
