    I'm a teen that has got much to stress about in academics and other things, I consider myself a loner since I don't have friends that you could count a finger on, and the one's that counts doesn't really feel like "friendship". after schoolworks and things, I chose to watch camping videos, I've done this since last year and I've stumbled across your channel. your solo camping videos and other contents really puts me at ease. I couldn't really relate since I can't do what you do for now and just hoping. but I find myself being in the same journey you go, especially with the povs and when you're having a conversation with us. You may not no this but your content helped me greatly. Thank you for that and keep going on the journey as your viewers and I will be with you in the other end. Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭

    Get the awning, brother, batwing is best. Save up for it, even, you and the Fam won't regret that purchase. Your tent was missing the rear guy line to attach point to pull that back area up/back, requiring more cordage and possibly pegs.

  • @pops6638
    @pops6638 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Great channel Rod.
    Tie more guy lines to the reinforced loops, especially around the back, in this set-up.
    You’ll be a lot happier with the extra useable space.
    Telescopic hiking poles will work a treat and be kinder on the tarp.
    Plus being adjustable, they’ll be great on any shaped ground and most tarp set-ups.
    Stay safe mate

    Could you put a guide rope on the back to hold it out from the wind? Thank you for these video's, we live in the UK, been watching you for ages ( we remember the hoochie video) and this gives us a bit of Australia because I know we will never get to visit, even though my cousin has lived in Adelaide about 25 years. Love your attitude and how good you are with the camera. Much appreciated.

    It helps to put the pole slightly further back to lift the back end off the ground a bit more and open up more room. You can also just hook the side guy lines on to the pegs you're already using at the back of the tent. It's a great little setup

    You'll enjoy the South African trip. Great fishing. As a South African living on the Gold Coast It's really interesting to recognise the spots you boat and fish here. It was also fascinating when you sailed Misty as I know the boat as I keep my boat at the same marina. The weather certainly has been poor here over the last few weeks but improved yesterday.

    To use two less pegs, try to tie the “door lateral flaps” without two new pegs, but with the pegs already in the sand, the ones immediately behind the door pegs. Maybe it works haha

    Haha you have no idea how many times I’ve snapped that support stick too short 😂 You did a great job with it though. Once you’ve done it once or twice it’s a piece of cake and perfect for sand. I take 8 of those same pegs. Slept in that setup last night in the rain. Really good shelter.

    I’ve built a few tarp setups on the beach. I use pieces of found sticks about a foot long buried in the sand turned side ways about a foot deep. Just have your string or rope tied to the stick. Holds super well.

    One thing you can do with the back that's cupping the wind is getting a peice of cord tie it to one of the tieouts in the back wrap it around a long stick then to a peg in the sand and prop the stick in the sand at an angle against the wind and tighten the rope and it should hold itself and give alot of extra room in the back. Looking forward to the next vids

    I almost wonder if you could get some bug netting and put it under the pole when you set up the tent, and then have a couple points to hook it around the bottom of the tarp and perhaps some material at the bottom to pack sand around it inside to keep it down and protected from the wind? You could maybe put a zipper around the front for the door. No idea if this would work, just a thought after thinking of standard bug nets hanging from the ceiling in a room. Love your content Rod!

    Alright Rod, I meant to say on that recent vid when the zips on your newer tent failed that you can get replacements. I've had the same issue on bags, tents etc, but you can get these nifty zip pullers that are sort of hinged and clamp into the zipper. After you've snapped off the old seized pullers the new ones are really easy to fit. Seemed a shame otherwise as it doesn't seem long ago when you debuted that newer tent on that island trip. I reckon there's some life in that green tent yet. All the best mate!

    Like your do it yourself attitude, I do the same thing. I think your tarp setup will work great for you. Look into some of the bug net setups for tipi tents. They can be suspended from the center pole and give you half or full coverage. Might get some ideas to sew up your own to fit inside your specific tarp configuration. Good luck.
